President Clusterfrack

I said this in the comments on my last post, but wanted to put it above the fold. This is from Charles Cooke on the refugee ban:

The way that this was rolled out showed a staggering incompetence by the Administration. According to detailed reports, this was crafted by Rudy Giuliani as a way to get a Muslim ban through the side door. It was put out without vetting by the Office of Legal Counsel or the Department of Homeland Security (according to DHS, they were literally discussing on the phone when Trump signed the order). I know there are those of you who will say, “Good! Fuck the bureaucrats!” But those bureaucrats exist for a reason: to prevent screwups like this; to execute the President’s orders within the bounds of the law and the Constitution. The initial order exempted green card holders, but racist conspiracy-theorist Steve Bannon and Trump confidant Steve Miller overrode that. It was rolled out on a Friday with minimal instructions given to customs agents.

As a result, there was total chaos. Border agents had no idea what they were supposed to be doing and were detaining people at random, trying to pressure them into surrendering their green cards and asking them questions about politics. People in transit — including children, people visiting sick relatives, PhD students, volunteers who helped us in Iraq — were suddenly thrown into an unknown situation. Airports erupted in protests and confusion. There are even reports of federal agents refusing to comply with the court order to cease or the later DHS Secretary’s order to let in green card holders.

The engine of state is vast and complicated. You can’t just issue executive orders like you’re playing an online Be The President game. Our federal agents and agencies need what the hell they are supposed to be doing. Citizens, permanents residents and immigrants need to know what the rules are, not have the rug jerked out from them when they get off of a plane.

Had Trump said something like this: “One week from now, we will temporarily stop immigration from the seven countries that Obama designated as problems. Green card holders, dual citizens and those in transit will be allowed in. After we review our vetting procedures, we will consider whether or not to lift the ban,” people would have opposed it. But there would not have been the chaotic angry scene we saw this weekend.

(Trump is on Twitter saying that if he’d done this, a bunch of “bad hombres” would have rushed to get in under the ban. This is a monumentally ignorant thing to say. It is a very long and time-consuming process to get visas from those countries — to say nothing of booking travel. You can’t do it in a week. This a fantasy concocted to give post facto justification to his incompetence.)

Trump’s first week has been marred by these kind of unforced errors. And it may get worse, with him having elevated Bannon to the NSC in place of the DNI and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs. Is this what we elected? Is this what we want? Chaos, protests and confusion? A President who rules by executive orders put together by crackpots? Four (or God help us eight) years of blunders, mistakes and Constitutional violations?

Maybe some people want that. But don’t call it conservatism.

We Sometimes Forget That We’re The President

The man really is like an innocent but clueless bystander within his own Administration. He should probably organize a protest against the man in charge or something. Maybe he’s good at that?

President Barack Obama said Monday he wants to ensure the U.S. isn’t building a “militarized culture” within police departments, while maintaining federal programs that provide the type of military-style equipment that were used to dispel racially charged protests in Ferguson, Missouri.

Don’t forget that Obama is the exact same guy whose DHS labeled returning American veterans as potential terrorists even as their returning weapons were sent to small town police departments to fight, um, terrorists, whose CIA blew up an American citizen on foreign soil without due process, and whose Bureau of Land Management showed up in full battle array ready to gun down a rancher and dozens of his supporters over a few stray cows.

Something tells me that Obama doesn’t have a problem, in theory, with militarizing law enforcement as long as his own special groups and interests aren’t the ones being made war upon.

Boy, Do I Feel Safe

More hi jinks are a foot at our local airports, and these I can’t blame on TSA. We all know about the zero common sense tolerance approach that Homeland Security takes in keeping us safe from those olive complected terrorists, keeping one step ahead of the jihadists is no small feat, so when John and Yoko decided to come pay us a visit, they got the welcome wagon is spades, God save the queen:

Two British tourists were barred from entering America after joking on Twitter that they were going to ‘destroy America’ and ‘dig up Marilyn Monroe’.
Leigh Van Bryan, 26, was handcuffed and kept under armed guard in a cell with Mexican drug dealers for 12 hours after landing in Los Angeles with pal Emily Bunting.
The Department of Homeland Security flagged him as a potential threat when he posted an excited tweet to his pals about his forthcoming trip to Hollywood which read: ‘Free this week, for quick gossip/prep before I go and destroy America?

First off, any guy named Lee that spells his name Leigh deserves to get his ass kicked, so him fighting Mexican drug dealers for apple juice cartons in the pen, boo friggin hoo. The other interesting thing is that DHS flags tweets. Pretty sure they flag emails, phone calls, and right leaning blogs who have the temerity to comment about their activities (you guys rock,BTW, and I don’t mean “rock” as in a weapon).

Everything I know about the British I learned from watching “Snatch”, and because I’ve seen the movie I know for a fact that whatever you call that language of theirs, it ain’t English.

Despite telling officials the term ‘destroy’ was British slang for ‘party’, they were held on suspicion of planning to ‘commit crimes’ and had their passports confiscated.

This makes sense to me since I heard Bullet Tooth Tony, when asked if he wanted a drink say , “I could murder one” (I wonder if they talk this way mid coitus?)

Here is where I have no doubt that DHS agents go through the same dumb ass school as the TSA. I would expect a couple of ham fisted no necked agents to greet them as they deplaned, greeted, secured and taken to secluded area for questioning. I don’t give a shit how bad you bastardize the language, using “destroy” and “America” in the same sentence gets you looked at, too bad. I also got no problem with them being searched and their luggage looked at, welcome to America. But after finding no WMD’s in their luggage and a 5 minute explanation about the peculiarities of the British and how they talked, common sense would have dictated a drawing down of emotions and a phone call of ,”Boss, this is what we got………………..yeah, I agree, we will tell them to learn how to speak English then send them on their way”.

They spent 12 hours in separate holding cells before being driven back to the airport where they were put on a plane home via Paris.

Given the sad state of L.A.’s finances, they could have used some of those tourist dollars, now Paris gets them.

No doubt kudos will be passed around to all involved, how they were johnny on the spot, stalwart and steadfast, to protect the folks from a possible threat, but really, chalk this up as yet one more example that, as with the TSA, the DHS can really be staffed by monkeys for as much after thought they put into their actions. First, the lame collection of DVD’s and Obama’s speeches on tape, and now this, we really are wankers sometimes, and John and Yoko got proper f-cked!!

Roh roh, Shaggy. Issa wants special prosecutor to investigate Fast & Furious.

It now looks like operation “Fast & Furious”, the famous “Gunrunner” scheme that I pointed out long ago, when the facts started dribbling out, despite a concerted effort by the LSM to keep the story and the reason & role the 2nd Amendment haters the members of Team Obama behind it under wraps, was a run around to affect American public opinion and help the left roll back defeats to disarm the people at large, is panning out into a scandal for Team Obama, and an international one at it:

The stench from Washington is getting stronger. Rep. Darrell Issa has called for a special prosecutor to get to the bottom of the festering mess known as Operation Fast and Furious.

Hatched somewhere in the bowels of the Justice Department, that misbegotten scheme had the Department of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives deliberately allowing high-powered guns to “walk” from Arizona and elsewhere into Mexico: Our agents turned a blind eye toward the straw purchasers who were funneling the weapons to the drug cartels.

The (dumb) idea was to trace cross-border arms trafficking, and so prove the (false) claim that 90 percent of the guns seized in Mexican drug war zones originate in the US. (The real figure is closer to 17 percent.) But, as Issa’s Oversight and Government Reform committee continues its investigation, that pretension has evaporated — and a major international scandal has been born.

Marisela Morales, the Mexican attorney general, estimates that at least 200 Mexicans have been killed with Fast and Furious weapons — among them, a powerful Barrett .50 caliber sniper rifle that took down a federal helicopter. Morales, who calls the program a “betrayal” of her country, told the Los Angeles Times that she first learned about Fast and Furious from news reports, and that US officials still haven’t briefed their Mexican counterparts on it.

More and more people are actually accepting the obvious conclusion, left when all other avenues that have been explored have lead to dead ends, that the sole remaining purpose for this operation was so the Obama administration could blame non-existing lax US gun policies for deaths in Mexico, as the blatantly false media campaign to convince people that 80% of the guns used in the drug wars there came from the US. This was being done so they could then demand they be allowed to add and enforce tighter controls that would violate 2nd Amendment rights that would otherwise never pass muster, in order to again take the lead in the fight to disarm the people, after their agenda recently suffered a humiliating defeat in the SCOTUS. This is obviously what Obama told us was under works to get them back in business on taking guns away from people during one of his speeches.

Attempts by the LSM to ignore the story and by the Obama Administration to avoid disclosing the facts have not succeeded in preventing us from learning the facts, and we are finally getting calls for a special investigation. As Holder and other higher ups behind this all now claim amnesia, frustrated officials in the Mexican government, whom it seems where not a willing participant as was first suspected, whom weren’t even briefed are themselves asking for answers. Maybe they should involve the criminal court in The Hague. I would love to see the left’s reaction to that one.

She shouldn’t feel lonely: The administration has been notably unforthcoming to everybody on this one. Eric Holder’s Justice has engaged in a rearguard battle against Issa’s committee — turning over subpoenaed documents only slowly and heavily redacted, making witnesses unavailable and transferring or retiring implicated officials such as former ATF head Kenneth Melson. Issa has publicly accused Holder & Co. of “gaming” congressional investigators.

Yet the drip, drip, drip of revelations continues. A third “Fast and Furious” gun has now been linked to the murder of Border Patrol agent Brian Terry, whose death in Arizona last December at the hands of Mexican bandits started to crack the scandal open.

In addition to the ATF and the FBI, other agencies already implicated include the Drug Enforcement Administration, Immigration and Customs Enforcement and the IRS. Other tidbits suggest involvement by higher-ups at the Department of Homeland Security and the White House itself.

It’s a scandal, and the stench seems to come from all the way to the top. And it’s going to be fun to watch the left now pretend there is nothing here or better yet, defend what now appears to be turning into a real international crime. How are they going to blame Bush? Can I say I told you so , already?
