The Chickens At Chick-Fil-A

Rolling over liked whipped dogs, abdicating all moral authority, prostituting yourself out for a few sheckles, pandering to a mob, throwing all your supporters under the bus and showing your true colors as a feckless spineless weenie, that should about cover it.

Chick-fil-a has gone to the dark side, it has abandoned its principals, all for the sake of opening up one lousy store in Chicago:

Chick-fil-A stopped funding traditional-marriage groups in an effort to open a new Chicago restaurant, but the company initially kept quiet about the decision, prompting gay rights groups to speculate that the company feared a backlash from conservative customers.
The Christian-rooted fast food restaurant agreed to stop funding groups such as Focus on the Family that oppose same-sex marriage in a meeting with the Chicago politician who had been blocking the company’s move there.

They sold their soul pretty cheap. All the support they garnered with their Appreciation day (setting a one day sales record) has just been pissed away because they sacrificed free speech on the alter of tolerance and progressivism, too bad.

The left will see this as a victory, a cry for equality and compassion was heard, they thought this was a gay thing and missed the real significance, a diminution of civil liberties. Yes, the owner is complicit in this diminution, by way of an attempt to placate the mob, but seriously, these people would never eat at a Chic-fil-a anyway, what the hell was he thinking?

A Christian man decides to open up a chain of restaurants and becomes real successful at it. He provides a service that people want so he grows his business. From the outset he made it crystal clear that all people were welcome, that all people could work for him, and that all people had a shot at management if they so desired. Along with the trappings of wealth comes a chance to make a difference, and since philanthropy and giving back is the cornerstone of Christianity, he created a foundation whereby money could be given to various charities and causes. One of those causes was Focus on the Family. Without putting them on trial here (we have already hashed out their positions on various social matters in other threads) the bottom line is that he felt they were doing good regarding the positions he holds and wanted them (along with many other organizations) to benefit from his good fortune.

The people that supported him did so mainly because he has a right to donate his money wherever he wants. I’m sure many agreed with his leanings and supported him from that position alone. For myself, I figure gay marriage will be fact of life in the near future, I won’t work towards that end but won’t actively oppose it either, and it in no way affects my faith or insults my conscience. But again, I never thought this was a gay issue anyway, it is about free speech and the free expression.

Never getting real excited about boycotts anyway, this “caving in” is disappointing, but will not affect my dinner plans. But those execs that made this decision better understand that they insulted a lot of people out there, people that stood by them is supporting their freedom to choose, now that they have abandoned those choices for expediency sake and the sake of expanding to Chicago, some might want to punish them for their pussification. Dollars talk.

Laying An Egg

It’s a dangerous world out there. Operating heavy machinery while having a buzz on can lead to funny youtube vidoes, so can douchebags operating video cameras.

Yesterday was Chick Fil A Appreciation Day (sadly, I was MIA, still keeping my record of never eating there intact). And although I think the crowd came down 90% in support of free speech, and 10% thinking they are some civil rights champion on a mission, some in the latter category donned their super hero suit and went on crusade, one case in point.

A leopard can’t change his spots, and the critically impaired critical thinkers go on parade exposing their already exposed shortcomings:

Libs don’t really care about the environment- Notice all the fossil fuels he is willing to burn, not to mention the Styrofoam cup and the wasted water, all to prove a point, would not his point be equally vapid with a bit more care as to the environmental needs of mother earth?

Libs are bullies- Not willing to pick on some one his own size, or someone that actually stood for something like a corporate lacky or store manager, he goes after the lowest rung on the ladder, a minimum wage female employee who is clearly uncomfortable with the encounter yet manages to show 10 times more class and decorum then the libtard with the camera.

Libs are stoners- how else can you explain the delusion he talks himself into, where he sees a group of people a block away, yet somehow convinces himself that they and he are simpatico on this issue and are as he speaks in preparation of a sit in to bolster his efforts of exposing bigotry?

Libs have an entirely unrealistic opinion of themselves- hence the major production and build up, but no pay out in the end, nor did not expose anything or get some confession, he berates a fast food employee and is proud of it, nice job.

And finally, libs are all talk but no real conviction. They keep telling us they are the party of free speech and tolerance, yet time and time again, they woefully come up short of putting it into practice. Trapped in their own box of hate, they can’t demonstrate any civility or respect of opinions different from their own. The lock step can countenance one set of values, and stepping outside that narrow parameter, anything else must by definition be hate inspired. So we are left with a group of closed brains who can’t understand the simple concept that a defense of traditional marriage does not in of itself constitute a hatred of gays or even an anti gay agenda.

And this intolerance to those of different opinions can seem alien, even off setting to some:

“The level of hatred, unfounded fear and misinformed people was astoundingly sad. I can’t even print some of the things people said.”

Yes, it was so sad and hatred filled that he could not provide one single example ( even a lie, something that didn’t happen would at least provide some substantiation, even anecdotal), but saying so fits better into the narrative of his readers.

I mentioned before, from a purely business perspective, venturing into this swamp was not very business savvy. If your goal is to increase business (build more restaurants, sell more chicken sandwiches, serve more customers and thus make more money) then anything said that excludes any segment of those potential customers is counter productive to that goal. I think he has done the proper damage control by adding:

“In recent weeks, we have been accused of being anti-gay,” Cathy said in a written statement. “We have no agenda against anyone. While my family and I believe in the Biblical definition of marriage, we love and respect anyone who disagrees.”

But that respect is not mutual, and only flows one way.

None of this controversy has motivated me to make an appearance at one of their restaurants, nor would it spark any action if I was of the other persuasion, but people don’t like bullies and they certainly don’t like elected officials telling them what their values should be. The final arbiter on the matter will be dollars, those spent at the restaurants or those withheld and spent someplace else, but let the people decide.
