We want to limit your stinking data!

If you own any kind of mobile device, you know that service providers are trying real hard to cap data usage even when you are fine paying their exorbitant prices, and basically claim that’s needed because it affects their infrastructure negatively. While some might actually think this makes sense, hard analysis says otherwise:

I won’t argue that data caps have no positive impact on wireless networks—they can prevent the most egregious overuse of what is a limited resource. But it’s a crude tool at best, targeting monthly averages with no regard for whether the network is congested at a particular time or place.

Recent actions and statements from carriers suggest this is the case: data caps are largely a profit play, not an efficient means of preventing network problems. After Sprint offered “double the high-speed data” on its network, 20GB per month for family plans, AT&T responded by doubling data, too, through shared plans of 30GB to 100GB a month. Verizon doubled its own customers’ data, while Sprint offered yet another doubling to stay ahead of AT&T and Verizon. Suddenly, network constraints had apparently disappeared.

Where did all this extra capacity come from? The carriers’ networks didn’t double in size overnight. The capacity was always there—carriers just weren’t allowing customers to use it until one decided to boost data and the others followed. Behavior like this helps explain why federal regulators have blocked mergers that would reduce the number of nationwide carriers from four to three.

Yeah, well, big government is in bed with these monopolies, and that’s why they do this sort of shit. These caps are not about protecting the network and assuring equal access, and have everything to do with profitability without having to be competitive. In short, monopolies, and then, the kind of monopolies a big fat cat can buy from government types always ready to sell the people out to line their own pockets.F rom the article:

It probably wouldn’t be smart for carriers to promise everyone limitless data, because there are real capacity constraints in wireless networks. But the specific limits imposed on consumers are chosen not to prevent congestion but to maximize profit.

I have nothing against profits. I just want you to make them because you are selling a great product people want and beat the competition fair and square. This always benefits the consumer. I have a huge problem when you want your profitability to come at the expense of the consumer, and then, because of some shitty monopoly you bought from politicians that love the idea they get to pick winners and losers. For a fee, of course.

Pigs On A Train

Lately, I have been reading way too many stories with the recurring theme being ,”Get some effing manners, you douche”. Lack of civility, it’s every where.

I was all set to write a post about this incident . Make a long story short, Mr. Pantshangingtoolow, just as he was boarding a plane, was cautioned about his attire and was asked to pull his pants up, he refused. He was then forcibly removed off of the plane and charged with the whole shebang:

was charged with trespassing, battery and resisting arrest. He’s being held in a San Mateo County jail in Redwood City.

Needless to say, he is now sorry and wished he had handled it differently, no shit.

One of the things I always hate about stories like this is that we don’t know how things went down, how was he warned, what did he do or say that constitutes a refusal, was he given proper time to comply or did the airline person have a hair trigger fuse, what were the dots? Naturally all this stuff will come out in court but was it worth inconveniencing all the other passengers, and more importantly, could it have been handled better? Check out the video of mom making every excuse in the book for her thug son, racism, that’s what it is, pure simple racism.

But then I saw this story, which fit the mold much better because not only do we have pigs acting badly in public, but we have a video, yahooo:

Loud cell-phone talkers strike again!

A woman traveling on New York’s Metro North train line was recorded by a fellow passenger telling train employees that she is too “well-educated” to be told to quiet down and not use profanity in her cell-phone conversation.

“Do you know what schools I’ve been to? How well-educated I am?” she asks the train employee, who is seen explaining to another employee that she asked the passenger to stop using the “F-bomb.”

“I’m sorry do you think I’m a little hoodlum?” she asks, then demands her money back and dares the conductor to stop the train.

I would bet my kid’s college money that this tramp is a big time Obama supporter.

The video is priceless and proof positive that a college education does not in itself make you civilized or socially acceptable to interact with humans. I think Ms. Frizzyhair also has that stick shoved too far up her bumm with this ,”Don’t touch me, rule number one, do not touch me”, over and over.

Get that bitch’s name and ban her from riding the train for one month, she will soon learn that mass transportation is a privilege not a right and if she wants to come back, she has to learn to play nice with others.

Liberals, the whole world revolves around them, they so easily bring out the Charles Whitman in all of us.

People Behaving Badly

If you guys want to use this thread to vent about some of your pet peeves, have at it, because I’m about to reveal one of mine, most notably, rude asshats and their inability to incorporate the feelings of others in their daily pursuits.

A woman who was escorted off an Amtrak train by police this weekend after she allegedly refused to stop talking loudly on her cell-phone has the Internet cheering her fate.

Civilians and quiet-car champions are supporting her ejection for violating policy at high volume during the 16-hour journey. It doesn’t help her cause that she became belligerent when confronted about it by one of her fellow passengers.

Some things here just defy reality, such as how can anyone yammer on their cell phone for 16 straight hours? How can anyone camped out in a “quite car” clearly marked as such think it social and permissible to annoy everyone around them with a marathon phone call? and most strangely, what took those people in that quiet car so long to reign that woman in? And would you of waited say more than 15 minutes before a serious intervention transpired?

It would of been nice if someone else in that car could of videod some of the altercation between the “disrespected” offender and the other folks trying to intervene but I think we can determine that she did not take their advice in a friendly manner, which culminated in the cops being called and the lady being hauled off of the train.

Some things you can bank on, this woman has probably been contacted by several dozen attorney’s who would give a limb for the chance to sue Amtrak, and you can bet that Amtrak will give her money to shut her up, regardless of the criminal charges brought against her. I would like to see some of the other passengers sue this woman for emotional trauma inflicted and for delaying their journey (not really, I hate frivolous lawsuit, but more bad stuff should happen to this woman).

My normal response to loud boisterous cell phone yackers is to stare them in plain sight with this obvious quizzical look on my face that just screams ,”Are you an effing idiot? None of us want to hear your phone conversation”. Sometimes it works, sometimes not.

Other things on my hit list: littering, people that treat waiters/waitresses badly, people that let their kids go berserk in public, oh, and guys that lay their hands on a woman, for any reason.

So, anything bug you?
