Wherein I Call for Throwing Israel Under the Bus

We’re watching a typical fake truce in action in the Middle East right now. New rockets are on the way for Hamas and new Israeli settlements are being built further and further east. It’s only a matter of time before the next bloodletting begins.

All of this has led me to question why exactly it’s considered to be “conservative” to support Israel. Let’s acknowledge the fact that the Israelis are underdogs (they’re outnumbered in the Middle East anyway) and they’re pretty badass in their way. It’s certainly natural to respect them, but why in the world do we support them in such a knee-jerk fashion?

Bear with me here. This is an overdue conversation among American conservatives.

What are conservatives getting out of this relationship, specifically; and what is the US getting in general out of our special relationship with Israel? I notice that American conservatives always support Israel to the hilt and talk about what irredeemable monsters the Palestinians are, but it never seems to make a major difference in the Jewish vote. Why exactly do we care more about keeping Israel Jewish than….Jewish people do? Every time there’s an election in this country, American Jews overwhelmingly vote for the Democrat (who is generally less inclined to care about Israel than the Republican candidate). They don’t give a shit. Why do we persist?

As for the US’s interests, the unquestionable support that the US has for Israel is doing nothing much but pitting us against the Arab world (and increasingly, the Turks) for the sake of very little. Is this a good decision to make toward the national interest? Pissing off 400 million+ plus people who control a shitload of oil for the benefit of 6 million people who provide us with no vital resources or anything else, really?

Is it about supporting democracy? Because democracy is essentially bullshit, you know. I’ve never understood why promoting and defending democracy overseas is such a priority for some conservatives. Democracy has made a royal fucking wreck out of the US, after all.

Are we worried about a human rights disaster if Israel is wiped out? That’s a nice moral concern, but the US does a fine job of ignoring such things in countries where the people don’t look like us. Why is any of this our job, anyway? The Palestinians aren’t our enemies or even our problem. Even Hamas isn’t a particular threat to the US. This instinctive desire to root for Israel and curse the Palestinians makes less and less sense to me with every rocket fired and bomb dropped.

Now I’m not going all anti-Zionist here. Israel has every right to exist as a Jewish state. What I can’t wrap my head around is why we think it’s our job to defend them and demand their protection regardless of what (sometimes brutal) steps they take to maintain that status. That Israeli lobbying cash that keeps our elected representatives in thrall isn’t lining any of my pockets. How about you? I think our “leaders” are duping us, truthfully.

Simply put, I’m tired of defending Israel when the rewards are clearly diminishing, if there are any at all. Demographics and political developments among Israel’s neighbors give me a bad feeling that we’re supporting the losing side for no good reason.

It’s perfectly appropriate for us to admire a romantic and embattled people. It’s another thing entirely–and arguably not conservative–to place the ambitions of such a nation above the long-term interests of the United States. I think it’s time for American conservatives to break up this bad romance.

Peace? We don’t need no stinking peace!

That peace deal with the “o so maligned” Palestinians? It’s a damned farce. As usual this isn’t peace, this is a lull on the storm so they can rearm, but the usual stupid stooges in the LSM are glad to pretend they mean it this time. See we already are seeing Hamas reminding the peace lovers what the end game really remains for them all. Check the video out:

In the mean time the helpful nations of the world are sending in emergency supplies to the poor Palestinians. This is happening while the other death cultists, the ones that are better at hiding what they are about, are hoping to join one of the most evil organizations on the planet. France sure is for it! Seriously, can we send the UN packing yet?

I am sure all this other nonsense will be drowned out anyway, as this other circus is starts up soon. I hope they finally come clean and admit the dude died of AIDs. I know! George W. Bush did it! Heh.

Some real perspective.

In Hal’s post titled Hamas and Israel, round 47, we got in a pretty heated discussion with the moralizers that seem to have a beef with Israel fighting back. At issue was the fact that the LSM immediately accused evil Israel of killing babies, while either using insane and twisted logic to justify their criticism or completely ignoring the fact that the Hamas worshipping death cultists in Gaza were lobbing hundreds of missiles daily at Israeli civilians. As those of us that knew better expected, it turned out that the indignation by the Jew haters in the west was based on damned and staged lies. Even when there are actual civilian casualties on the Palestinian side – according to the LSM there never are civilian casualties on the Israeli side, and certainly not innocent civilian casualties, because evil and powerful Israel is an occupier and a bully – those of us that are able to view this conflict without the bias coloring the view of your average enlightened leftist, know these people were purposefully put in harms way by their own leadership to score cheap points.

This conflict is neither complex nor difficult to comprehend: it is insane. On one side you have a bunch of tools that are being used by the Nazi influenced Arab world and have spent the last 7 decades being turned into death worshippers that refuse to back off their holy charter of driving all the Jews into the sea and exterminating Israel. On the other you have a nation that has offered everything short of its own extinction up to reach an insane and imposed compromise, only to be rebuffed, repeatedly, being held to impossible and ever changing standards. It is insane. Israel is expected to basically tie its hands behind its back and bare its throat to these monster that want to exterminate its people.

That so many in the west, under the pretense of just holding Israel to a high standard, as several of the pro-death worshippers posting in Hal’s comment section told us, demand Israel be perfect or do nothing is not a coincidence. It is a strategy; deprived of the ability to respond, one can only logically conclude that the agenda here is to handicap Israel until it falls. Before you try to argue otherwise, consider a revelation from this article about the Iron Dome missile defense system and what it really says:

Except, here’s a true story: Back in mid-June, during the great Paris weapons show, the Rafael pavilion was absolutely the busiest around, and everybody wanted to look at the new, exciting, Iron Dome system, the greatest achievement in rocket defense ever. But by the end of the show, Rafael hadn’t made a single sale. The Arrow sold well, other systems did great – Iron Dome wasn’t moving. So they contacted their big clients, the serious ones, and asked what gives. And those clients told them no one except Israel has any use for these things. Because in any normal, sane country, if some hooligans were to start targeting civilians with rockets – the army would go and kill them.

Emphasis mine. Yeah, sure, these people demanding Israel be perfect, or do nothing otherwise, really are doing it out of higher morality. Not because they want to prevent Israel from being able to defend itself or protect its citizens, with only one possible outcome following that line of thinking. Everyone knows that the bad people are the ones like me that do not want to accept the moral equivocation that pretends barbarians on a genocidal quest should be given a pass, while a civilized nation gets told to die a death by a thousand paper cuts, because the issue is “complex”. Right. Their demands Israel do the impossible is not about higher standards: it is about crippling Israel’s ability to defend itself. It is the same phenomenon that we saw when the left imposed impossible ROEs on US military forces in the hopes it would lead to a loss both in Iraq and Afghanistan when the WH was not occupied by a person with an (R) next to their name. These people do not give two shits about the victims they pretend to cry for. It is about fucking over the people they don’t like. No other country in this world would tolerate what Israel is being told to. The real moral question here is why this is so.
