Over Before It Began
by Lee

Boxer to Congress: “The election was a fraud!  Democracy is in peril!  Bush = Hitler!” Congress to Boxer: “Blow me.”

Congress on Thursday began its formal certification of President Bush’s victory in November’s election but a handful of Democrats objected and temporarily stalled the count because of alleged irregularities in Ohio.

The Democrats filing the objection, formally lodged by California Sen. Barbara Boxer and Ohio Rep. Stephanie Tubbs Jones, said they were not trying to overturn the results but wanted to force Congress to debate and consider the need for more voting reforms including election rules that would be standard in all states.

“This objection does not have at its root the hope or even the hint of overturning or challenging the victory of the president,” Tubbs Jones said. Boxer said it was a matter of “electoral justice.”

Their objection forced the House and Senate to halt their joint session, usually a routine and ceremonial quadrennial affair. As Republicans control both chambers and few Democrats have stepped up to join the protest, the count is expected to resume later Thursday afternoon once their objection is considered.

Like virtually everything the Democratic Party engages itself in, this was big on symbolism and virtually devoid of any substance whatsoever.

Update: It’s now officially over.  Michael Moore and the rest of the left-wing barking moonbat brigade can now go around patting themselves on the back talking about how this was an important step for democracy.
