Letting the Air Out

A Sound So Very Loud posted this under the Ron Paul ‘Taint Thread, but I thought I’d move it above the fold. The photo indicates that Don Black is lying about meeting Ron Paul, but:

This is what it all the corroborating evidence boils down to: 1) White claims that he has been in the same room as Paul at undescribed dinners organized by Pat Buchanan. 2) Those were likely Robert Taft Club meetings. 3) Paul paid for his own dinner. 4) White, an observed attention-mongerer, wants this to be significant without citing anything significant. But here is another wrench in Lifson’s gears: Don Black, the leader of Stormfront (the group Ron Paul is supposedly a member of), has recently admitted that while he endorses Paul’s campaign, he has never met Paul and he regrets that Paul does not share his white supremacist views.

So which white supremacist is lying? The American Thinker position would have to be that Don Black is lying about the disconnect between himself and Paul and that the two have engaged in a massive conspiracy to defraud the public into believing Paul doesn’t care for Don Black, Bill White, or white supremacy in general. Second, Lifson would have to maintain that, while Black took the all the precautions to maintain Paul’s secrecy, he forgot to not endorse Paul. Finally, Lifson would have to hold that Paul has spent the last 20 years in Congress reigning in all of his white supremacist furor, while faking the most libertarian platform in GOP memory, on the off-chance that he may someday become president, whence he can unleash his true socialist white supremacist agenda.

Of course, the more reasonable position is that Bill White is a social pariah in the white supremacy movement who is trying to capitalize on Paul’s fame, that Don Black simply endorsed the ‘small government’ candidate as white supremacists usually do, and that American Thinker, despite its name, wants Paul to be a racist a little too much.

If you’re going to claim that Don Black donating to and shaking hands with Ron Paul means Ron Paul is a closet racist, you’re going to have to also argue that most of the GOP—and especially the Values Voters, where the photo was taken—are also closet racists.

You can believe this if you wish. But then go ahead and bite the bullet. Vote Democrat.

Update: Just to clarify. I’m irritated that Ron Paul was photographed with an asshole like Don Black. But these guys shake hands and pose for photos with thousands of people. It’s called campaigning. They don’t have time to check everyone’s background. This was not a Stormfront event, this was a Values Voters debate.

I’m having trouble finding it on Google, but I remember back in ‘96, Ross Perot making a big deal about a photo of Bill Clinton shaking hands with a drug dealer at a campaign event. I remember people making a big deal out of Rosalyn Carter shaking hands with John Wayne Gacy. I thought it was bullshit then and it’s bullshit now.

I think Paul has the perfect take on this whole Stormfront non-issue. Where would you rather have $500? In a campaign to promote a libertarian agenda? Or in Don Black’s pocket promoting white supremacy?

Organizations like Stormfront are personal affront to me. I’m an intellectual Jew—I’d be the first guy they’d shoot if they ever got power. When I was a kid, a cross was burned on the lawn of my synagogue. My best friend in elementary school move to a rural area and was routinely beaten up because he was a Jew. I’ve met numerous Holocaust survivors and one my best friends is missing half of her family tree because they were wiped out in Poland.

If I thought that the Paul campaign was a trojan horse for these people, I’d be opposing them in all caps.

Update by Lee: Anyone remember all the liberals making a big deal out of this picture?

How absolutely fucking pathetic that conservatives are now resorting to the same lame-ass tactic in order to smear Ron Paul.
