"To what purpose are powers limited, and to what purpose is that limitation committed to writing, if these limits may, at any time, be passed by those intended to be restrained?" -- Chief Justice John Marshall, Marbury v. Madison, 1803 Friday, February 23, 2007Left Coast Coldening
by Lee
The weather here in Los Angeles has been pretty good lately. Jeans and t-shirts, maybe a sweater or a pair of shorts, but definitely not cold. Until today, that is. It was overcast and rainy and the sky was slate gray all day. I wondered to myself why, all of a sudden, the weather turned so chilly. And then it dawned on me. Al Gore is coming to town. The Oscars are on Sunday, so I imagine he arrived a few days early to do press junkets and such, to talk about his global warming movie. Tim Blair has been on the case documenting Gore “coldenings” for quite some time now. Basically the rule of thumb is that wherever Al Gore goes to talk about global warming the weather turns cold, sometimes severely. A couple of days ago at work I predicted a coldening by the end of the week. With the crappy overcast and drizzly weather today (which is about as bad as it gets here in LA) one of my coworkers came up and said, “Dude, you said it was gonna get cold, and here it is!” “Hey,” says I, “Thank Algore.” So, the question remains, will Los Angeles be hit with a sudden ice storm or blizzard? Let’s wait and see.
