Right Thinking From The Left Coast
"To what purpose are powers limited, and to what purpose is that limitation committed to writing,
if these limits may, at any time, be passed by those intended to be restrained?"
-- Chief Justice John Marshall, Marbury v. Madison, 1803

Pat Robertson, he’s just going from success to success.

The only Christian TV channel in Finland said Thursday it will stop airing shows by American televangelist Pat Robertson because of his call to assassinate Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez.

The channel said its purpose was to spread a Christian message, not indulge in politics.

“It’s sad that a leading Christian figure makes these kinds of statements,” said the channel’s executive, Martti Ojares. “The American style of mixing politics and Christian faith is also foreign to Finnish culture.”

In other words, Pat, shut your goddamn mouth and talk about religious matters.  Dumbass.

Yeah, European countries.  Just who I tend to agree with all of the time.

I guess you pick your allies based on whose ox is being gored?

Especially the Finnish.  Now I’m not a racist man, but all Finnish people are no good at everything.

I think that’s fine.  That makes sense.

Air America aired a clip of him calling for the assasination, then his denial yesterday of ever having said that. It is amazing how stupid that man is.

Where’s the liberals chanting in the streets to protect Pat’s God given ..uh I mean...social right to free speech?  They must be somewhere.  Mustn’t they be?

Pat Robertson is a useful idiot.  I stopped listening to him years ago.  So did everyone else who didn’t have their head up their ass.

Wasn’t ‘The 700 Club’ on one of the big networks back in 80’s?

You could have just stopped at:
“In other words, Pat, shut your goddamn mouth.”

Teevee ministers are only in it for the money anyway.  They don’t really give a fuck about ‘saving’ anyone.

I think so, but I’m not 100% sure.  I remember watching it.

Actually, as I’ve pointed out recently, I’m a regular Ned Flanders and I’d rather Pat Robertson not even talk about religious matters.

jeebus, Pete. I f I hadn’t been there I would take issue.

Those anti American fucks have it all coming to them.

Nokia sucks a twelve inch pickle.

No one hates the Finns more than I.

I’m shocked. Finland has television?

Here is another “fundamentalist Christian” who thinks Robertson is a lunatic.

Lee, you get upset about Christians not denouncing Robertson, but the problem is that Christianity is and always was a grass roots movement.  Any time a particular church movement gets too big it’s a sign of corruption.  Quick, name the person who leads the evangelical Christian movement.....

The answer is that no one person leads it, so who are you expecting to come out and denounce Robertson?

For the one million or so viewers he claims to have, there are many more millions of us out there who denounce him by not watching him.

I saw evidence of this in a thread a week or two ago, but I can’t remember what brought it on.  It was funny stuff though.

Quick, name the person who leads the evangelical Christian movement.....

But it was not too long ago that many people could’ve answered without hesitation: Billy Graham.

Careful, I can hear a few Muslims agreeing with you on this one.

I sort of tend to agree though, is it really necessary to renounce crap like this? Is not like renouncing him is going to cure his brainwashed followers; at least this one istn’t a rapist.

Doesn’t everyone?

For the one million or so viewers he claims to have, there are many more millions of us out there who denounce him by not watching him.

For the thousand or so terrorist followers that Osama claims to have, there are billions of Muslims out there who denounce him by not committing terrorism.

Brilliant logic, there, Jacob.

I do everyday.

And his fag boyfriend.

That’s a lie, his boyfriend is an ok guy.

Elton on the other hand…

Ah, but if Christians are treated any differently when traveling to Venezuala, can we cry out against religious profiling?

Ah, but if Christians are treated any differently when traveling to Venezuala, can we cry out against religious profiling?

How would that work?  At least 98% of Venezualans are Christian themselves.

Hehehe, he called the Finns a slave race.

Then I had to point out their grandfathers kicked the shit out of the Russkies in the Winter War (amazing shit by the way, a little bit like Israelis beating back massive Arab armies, except they haven’t done it like 4 damn times like the Israelis), and he said “yeah, but modern Finns are anti-American socialist pussies.” I had no real response, except I guess now that I think about it, Linus Torvalds is pretty coo.

I have no real opinion of them, I’ve never been there, and they don’t seem to go out of their way to fuck with us like the Germans or the French.

Hating America is a frickin’ pasttime in every 2nd or 3rd rate nation in the world.  Let them enjoy it, but if they act on it, smackdown time.

He’s a Christian leader that does even understand “Thou Shall not Kill.” I’d dump his show too.

Just had the sudden urge to register to defend my birthplace. You see, Europe is composed of many different countries. The cultures are varied and astonishingly different from one another (for example, a recent poll taken across Europe just revealed a deep antipathy towards France). Finland is a pretty amazing country, you just have to look it up in any encyclopedia to see why. Besides, didn’t they have a point: don’t mix religion and politics?
It’s true that most Finns right now don’t agree with US foreign policy, but that doesn’t mean you have to ignore everything they’ve accomplished because of that. Finland is almost always #1 or tied in international rankings.  Besides, they don’t like Commies either ;)

Brilliant straw man there.

Posted by Lee on 08/27/05 at 04:39 PM from United States

Jacob, it’s pretty obvious you don’t actually know what a straw man argument is.  Before you accuse me of making one, you might want to find out.  Use Google.  You can look it up and everything.

If Christians are denouncing Pat by not watching him, then Muslims denounce terror by not participating in it.  You can’t have it both ways.

So what? Are religious leaders no longer allowed to run charities?
