Virginia Government Soaks Their Beaks
by

Man, are they getting desperate, or what?  via Mish:

A federally funded ticketing blitz in the state of Virginia landed a total of 6996 traffic tickets this weekend. The blitz, dubbed “Operation Air, Land & Speed” coincided with frantic efforts by state officials to close a $2.2 billion budget deficit. Supervisors ordered state troopers to saturate Interstates 81 and 95 to issue as many tickets as humanly possible over the space of two days.

Jesus--the state police actually treated this like a got-damn military operation, and all because the state government has a hole in their budget the size of Obama’s ears.

This is sheer desperation, plain and simple.  When you have to resort to traffic tickets to shore up your budget, it’s game-fucking-over.  And the most grotesque aspect of this whole mafia-style skim is that it was federally funded.  In other words, our tax dollars went to pay for this.

Why are they resorting to measures like these?  A quick reminder:

Watching these states try to grapple with their underwater budgets is like watching a car wreck in real time.  You know it’s not going to turn out well, but you can’t look away.  Ponzi government is coming home to roost, kids.

Best-fucking-post I have ever seen on this blog, if you ask me. Fuck ‘em, they already have so much of my tax money and debt, I couldn’t give a squirt of piss what their gripes are.

If they want some more, they can come and get it from me personally.

if I’m not mistaken Arizona did the same thing before Napilitano became Homeland Security.

No one is doing the math over there:  7,000 tickets times $150 per ticket (just a wild guess) is a little over $1,000,000.  That makes a really big dent in a $2.2 BILLION shortfall.  The amount of time spend discussing and defending this on the part the the legislature and the governor was more costly than the program generated.

Don’t you mean ‘police state’?

Well, she championed speed cameras which we’re now stuck with.

I just got camera flashed Wed night going through one of those stationary speed cameras (the ones you have to be an idiot to get caught at since they never move) I was going maybe 1, yes one, MPH over the limit.  If I get a ticket in the mail I’m going to go ballistic.

Government using law enforcement as a revenue source has to be one of the most corrupt things imaginable.
