Talk about a royal shafting…

Democrats in the state of California seem hell bent on making sure the state fails. There is no other way to interpret their demand that all of the proposed $16 billion in cuts be done away with and for the $24 billion shortfall to entirely be made up with new taxes. You heard that right. The collectivists, in a down economy and at a time people are already fleeing California because of its draconian tax obligations, want to forego any kind of sacrifice on the part of their constituents, and are demanding more be taken from the already overburdened and fast dwindling productive in the private sector.

Have no doubt that this comes right back to democrats protecting their constituents: the large union blocks, first and foremost. Oh sure, in typical fashion, they are invoking suffering children and all that jazz, but the truth is that this is all smoke & mirrors. The democrats could give a rat’s ass about children. They do not get to vote, and vote for democrats. But admitting what you really are after is to protect the many public employee jobs at risk, at a time when people in the private sector are getting hammered, because of your dependency on them, will not fly well. So their solution is to raise taxes.

And these are more taxes. They have already raised taxes on Californians to the tune of $14 billion recently:

The latest tax proposal comes after six Republicans broke ranks with their party in February and approved $14 billion in tax increases to end a four-month impasse over how to close what was then a record $42 billion deficit. To fill that gap, lawmakers also agreed to cut $15 billion in spending.

So after they get the taxes they wanted in return for a promise to cut some of the brutal deficit with some spending reductions, the democrats now want to go back on their word and make it all up with new taxes. Talk about a royal shafting. I guess Californians, at least the ones not sucking at the government’s teat, are getting what they deserve from those they elected. Don’t worry America! This same stuff is coming our way courtesy of the federal government soon too…

You couldn’t be more right about this, and just how do you think these Unions are voting? you bet your ass, they are democrats across the board, and the children are the human shields for Teachers Unions, police Unions, Fire Fighter’s Unions, etc. If you keep reading on this, you’ll see the threats extend to cutting Fire and police services if the democrats don’t get their way.

The only real silver lining for California, at this point, is actually the thing that is being touted as the flaw in our system, the two thirds majority needed to pass bills. Democrats are (I think) six seats shy of a super majority. Some Republicans jumped ship on the last tax hike, but I think both they and Arnold smell a little blood in the water with the last failure at the voting booth.

If California Republicans can get it together, they could make the tables turn on the democrats for a good long time. The problem is that they are saddled by some very unpopular political stances, like Prop 8, and a harsh stance towards marijuana laws (don’t laugh, it’s a bigger deal and industry here than people give credit to).

We’re not given many good choices, and many of the elected officials are strong armed into place by the union collectivists. The real lesson to be learned from all of this is that Unions are a worse threat to this country than any Islamic terror threat ever was. They have literally bankrupted the state, and under the guise of “education” to boot.

Half of California’s budgetary spending every year is on education. Half.

And all you get for that is a heavy does of liberal indoctrination and children that too often know nothing? Damn man, you poor Cali-peops are being had.

It galls me to no end that virtually all of the commentary on this coming from the liberal side of the media simply bemoans the fact that CA cannot raise taxes.  We already have one of the largest tax burdens of any state in the union, but these geniuses think that the problem lies in the fact that CA cannot TAX enough.

Sorry, I had to bang my head against the wall a few times.

If you still have money, you can still be taxed…

There’s no reason for California to raise taxes anymore, and it’s simply ludicrous for the dems to try. The very reason that this wound opened up again was because of all the revenue lost to the recession. That, and the state’s hostile treatment towards business.

I can only hope that this situation breaks down so bad that it needs to be rebuilt from the ground up.

And all you get for that is a heavy does of liberal indoctrination and children that too often know nothing? Damn man, you poor Cali-peops are being had.

I don’t care if they teach every male child to act like Bruno, and sit on pencils and spin, I don’t want them educating illegals here anymore. The “needs” the teachers keep barking about for more teachers, less layoffs, etc. are based on census numbers that *include* illegal immigrants.

I would dare say a majority of the children are if not illegals, at the very least anchor children. I don’t mind immigration, and in fact, I think it’s healthy for us. However, the amount of rampant illegal immigration that has flooded Southern California has spun out of control, and at the same given Unions more than plenty human shields to prop up their little government nest eggs.

I’m all for granting children education, if that’s what we sign on for as a society. I say that is the case for American children, not the entirety of Central America that jumps the fence.

Half of California’s budgetary spending every year is on education. Half.

And the dropout rate is close to 50%.

In addition, don’t forget that California has the highest paid teachers in the union to boot.

I would like to see a politician stand up and tell the union members to take a pay cut in salaries and ridiculous pensions so that the money can be put towards actually funding and rebuilding schools.

You know, “for the children”.

One more thing.  I’m one of those that is actually praying for this state to go BK.

Eventually, the private sector is going to go John Galt and then what do you have? I think even the Hollywood crowd would move to Sedona as a primary residence rather than Malibu if things keep going the way they do.

My thought exactly. You are NEVER going to get collectivists to admit they are wrong...never. The only hope I see for California, and indeed the nation, is to just let the system collapse. Let the Dems raise taxes all they want. Let them drive the state further into debt and despair. Let them drive more productive people and capital out of the state. The collectivists still won’t change their minds, but maybe the average citizen will finally get it and Atlas will shrug.
