I don’t really feel a lot of pity for this guy.

The Supreme Court will hear an appeal from a man fighting government efforts to take his Social Security benefits to pay off student loans.

The San Francisco-based 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals sided with the Department of Education.

The department wants to seize the disabled man’s benefit checks to pay loans that are at least a decade old.

The case hinges on congressional statutes that offer conflicting guidance on whether Social Security payments are shielded from loan collection.

The court faces the question of whether a 10-year time limit applies to collection of Social Security checks for education loans.

The man’s lawyers say he needs the money to pay for food and medication.

As someone who had student loans and paid them off, screw this guy.  Let him starve.

This guy has a college degree and can’t even get a job to pay for his food?

What, now they make sane judgements?

No pity here, either. Those things are so easy to pay off it’s crazy not to get out form under them. Hell, it would actually be good to take out some student loans and pay them off just to build your credit rating.

Between the wife and I we paid off $60k in student loans. I hope this guy ends up eating cat food.

Are you saying the G.I. Bill was not enough?

Whoever said it was “enough”?  Depends on what you do with it and how much you “need”.

Loans, grants, scholarships, GI bill, work - you do what you have to.  Anybody that thinks the GI bill is going to pay for everything either has low expectations, is deluded, or too stupid to go to college anyway.

Number One, Seattle, not addressed to you.

Number two, no shit, it was a joke.  Mine ran out after two and a half years, but thanks for the info.

To pay for school i have worked as a middle school janitor, a construction worker and an office clerk.  I really don’t want to hear this guy (or anyone else) bitching.
