Not Your Average Gun Grabber

The Second Amendment is safe, so sayeth The One:

A woman in the crowd told Obama she had “heard a rumor” that he might be planning some sort of gun ban upon being elected president. Obama trotted out his standard policy stance, that he had a deep respect for the “traditions of gun ownership” but favored measures in big cities to keep guns out of the hands of “gang bangers and drug dealers’’ in big cities “who already have them and are shooting people.”

“If you’ve got a gun in your house, I’m not taking it,’’ Obama said. But the Illinois senator could still see skeptics in the crowd, particularly on the faces of several men at the back of the room.

So he tried again. “Even if I want to take them away, I don’t have the votes in Congress,’’ he said. “This can’t be the reason not to vote for me. Can everyone hear me in the back? I see a couple of sportsmen back there. I’m not going to take away your guns.’’

Well, I guess he’ll let them cling to their guns, after all.

There is a gang problem, there is no gun problem. They need to end this stupid drug war that funds all of this. Obama would be out of the race right away if he were to say that though, or anyone else for that matter. At least he answered the question. I think he’s going to be a moderate with a tilt to the left which isn’t the end of the world by any means. All I know is the current fuckhead in office has defiled the office so bad that nearly anyone will look good by comparison.

Were Senator Obama to make president, he would behave exactly like Senator Barbara Boxer. President Boxer. Barack is an extremely weak man, and parrots the extreme left narrative at every chance. Imagine President Barbara Boxer.

Obama’s record of public statements and proposed legislation makes him about the worse potential gun-grabber in US history.

I’m sure he and that clusterfuck of a mayor down in New Orleans can compare notes....

The budget deficit is too high. I’m wondering why people care about a 1% chance of being randomly shot when Bush/Cheney have saddled us with 5 + 2(today) TRILLION in debt we need to pay back.

Sure, we all know rich people. But $7 trillion is a lot of money for anyone. There are only 250 million in the country for crying out loud.

Naw, He wont take them.
But He will sign of on higher taxes on arms, more “reasonable” regulation.

Keep kidding yourself, WVR.

The 2008 Democratic Party Platform (the link was blacklisted for some reason) explicitly calls for renewing the so-called Assault Weapons Ban:

We can work together to enact and enforce commonsense laws and improvements – like closing the gun show loophole, improving our background check system, and reinstating the assault weapons ban, so that guns do not fall into the hands of terrorists or criminals.

Also, Obama himself called for renewing the Ban and making it permanent last year.  Finally, Obama’s VP pick has taken credit for writing the Assault Weapons Ban.

He can dishonestly invoke “sportsmen” all he likes, but his record and campaign are quite clear on his attitude toward guns.

How can you take him at his word on this, WVR?

So he tried again. “Even if I want to take them away, I don’t have the votes in Congress,’’ he said.

But you’ll rue the day that I do have them!!  I find it humorous in many ways that I own two gun/magazine combinations that would’ve been illegal for me to purchase between 1994 and 2004.  I have not shot anyone with them yet, and the gun that I would be likely to use in such a situation is legal under the ban.

1. A law-abiding citizen owns two pistols which hold more than 10 rounds and hasn’t shot up a Denny’s yet and doesn’t drive around looking for blacks to shoot.

2. A law-abiding citizen, should he be forced into a defense situation would be likely to choose an unbanned weapon anyway.

So how was the assault weapons ban supposed to fix anything?  It seems that all it does is put a senseless restriction on something which shouldn’t be banned at all.  Pick up all the 17 rounders while you can, boys.  Obama is just trying to put you at ease about one more thing that he won’t then will do.

“If you’ve got a gun in your house, I’m not taking it,’’ Obama said.

Hmm… leaves it wide open to make it next to impossible to get a gun though.  Make them hard to get, and it’ll have the same effect over time.

Worse yet, the ban was cosmetic, none of the various configurations that would qualify a rile to be banned had no effect on teh function of the weapon.
The ban was ineffectual.
