Right Thinking From The Left Coast
"To what purpose are powers limited, and to what purpose is that limitation committed to writing,
if these limits may, at any time, be passed by those intended to be restrained?"

No More Ban
by Lee

And, for once, Congress showed a little spine and respect for the Constitution.

Congress will not vote on an assault weapons ban due to expire Monday, Republican leaders said Wednesday, rejecting a last-ditch effort by supporters to renew it.

“I think the will of the American people is consistent with letting it expire, so it will expire,” Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist, R-Tenn., told reporters.

The 10-year ban, signed by President Clinton in 1994, outlawed 19 types of military-style assault weapons. A clause directed that the ban expire unless Congress specifically reauthorized it.

Some Democrats and several police leaders said President Bush should try to persuade Congress to renew the ban. Bush has said he would sign such a bill if Congress passed it.

“If the president asked me, it’d still be no ... because we don’t have the votes to pass an assault weapons ban and it will expire Monday and that’s that,” House Majority Leader Tom DeLay, R-Texas, told reporters later.

DeLay said the ban was “a feel-good piece of legislation” that does nothing to keep weapons out of the hands of criminals.

DeLay is exactly right.  It was useless legislation when it was passed, and it’s good to let it die.

Just a thought here. I remember Kent state ( the 70’s and also wonded knee same time frame.) and the shootings there .if I am not wrong the students were armed with only rocks and were fired on by the guard some thing that should not have happened. All because they were protesting some thing they believed in and the government did not. At Wounded Knee a few kept many at bay over the rights they were given years ago and the government stole from then over and over. Also of what the government said they would do and then refused to now honor. Can a take over happen here in the US? I say yes a double yes. Most voters to day vote based on sound bits and not the full info they should. Case in point I knew some one who voted only for this reason. The other person running to them had shifty eyes vote made based on looks no stand on the issues at all and they did not care and over the years have never read any thing on them. But vote only as a union paper they get say to, what others say to or how the media. Paints it. . how many do we know vote only on party lines no matter what .
Case in point
One prez gets impeached for lying and illegal activities and another years later dose not.
Case in point
The police and the army are they to protect the general population not the individual.
Case in point
La riots yes were are talking of that as can it happen again you bet. The governments response to it is to take away the tool and not punish the act or person doing the act. To throw money at it and not really get to the nuts and bolts to fix it as there safe from it.
Case in point
Most people to day in the military or government are brought up and taught that guns are evil. No one needs them for any reason at all. Only bad guys have them. we are a people that are city dwellers now, not the farmers and hunters were almost all families had firearms for protection and food supplying and that changed manly after ww2 for many reasons most for feel good thing not real actions even to the shooting of Prez Kennedy and martin King .The decline of the American family farm and movement to urbanization. A the suburbs. So the set up in the years to come for a take over as in Germany in the 30’s is already set in place and movement to that day with the right person working the mass media is there now.
Gun control is also one reason we went to war with England as we were not to make gun powder here or guns but buy only from them. (Gun control) when the guns were taken from the people they were told to check them out if needed for hunting. What fallowed was the Boston massacre.
Case in point
The treatment of the American Indians. Look at what happened to them when they believed the government of the time. is this not the same government we are talking about to day the same set up that lied and toke from them over and over tell they had full control of them? One way this was done was with arms control in that they could not have and there’s were confiscated so that only the government was armed.
Personal opion here
I am not afraid of an armed people but of an unarmed people and armed government only
In the last two hundred years over and over gun control has been tried in May ways .always in the end the people have lost. Should we not learn form others mistakes or are we always bond to relearn the lesions of history both old and new?
the, 2a to me is my right to be armed as I see fit for the protection of my family and self from all who would wish harm on us. Be that one person or a government that is how I see the founding fathers thoughts.
as was stated we have come so far from there ideals to day it is unreal just in taxes as we pay taxes on taxes on taxes with government bodies that are no longer that concerned with the individual but only the group as a large. Or with accountability or fiscal control. yet the founders were very precise in wanting individual freedoms and when you take a little at a time from them you also make it easier to take more tell there gone so yes were do you draw the line ? You draw it at the start not later when most protections are gone you draw it so it never starts. As they say divide and concore and here is an example of that. Divided gun owners in respect to how to be armed and for what reasons. So already the 2a has been diluted to were rights are gone. So ask yourself were dose it stop? Were should it have stopped? What was the thinking of the day, to be armed like a government or to be armed to hunt and target shot only? Again I believe the right to be fully armed to stand side by side with the government or against it my chose no one others.
