When will the gun-crazy Americans learn that if you own a firearm someone in your family is 43 times more likely to die from it? Why won’t they join the enlightened ranks of people who manage to live without guns, like New Zealand.
A Reporoa man has appeared in court over an accidental shooting by his young son during a pig hunt.
Albert Hurihanganui could face up to three years in prison after pleading guilty to careless use of a firearm.
But he has asked the court to consider restorative justice.
Hurihanganui’s six-year-old shot his 10-year-old cousin in April when their fathers left them with a loaded rifle while retrieving a pig.
Police said it was a miracle the 10-year-old survived his stomach injuries after the six-year-old fired the rifle at point blank range.
Fearing that a similar incident could also take place within their borders, Australia, New Zealand’s closest neighbor, has introduced a bill in Parliament that would outlaw pigs forever. Australia’s Muslim community immediately hailed the legislation, and requested that it be followed up with similar bills outlawing Jews and unveiled women.

What are they doing with guns? Guess the Maori ain’t like the rest of the Polynesian bunch. They normally just use knives on the pigs. Which is more of a fair deal, seeing as you have to get close enough that the pigs can nueter you with a well aimed gnashing of the teeth.

Sorry for the off-topic post, but this is a can’t-miss thread on DU. Even I, knowing how far-left they were, was shocked by some of the responses.
Soooo, two hunters leave a loaded rifle with a 6 and 10 year old, while they go off to retrieve a pig. And, if the pig isn’t dead? And, if there are other wild pigs in the proximity?
I’m not saying there should be jail time. But, it seems to me that there is just something not right about this hunting party. Like maybe the adults acting like adults?
Should you be able to trust your 6 year old with your loaded rifle? Well, would you trust them with the keys to your Corvette? And, don’t think a kid this age hasn’t taken off in a car! It’s happened before!

I had a rifle at 6 - what’s the issue?
My earliest memories are of shooting a styrofoam cup with a pistol - I must have been 2 or 3 at the time. Firearm safety is taught young and reinforced constantly.

This family is very lucky, and the guy is an idiot for leaving a loaded rifle with 2 kids, one which might have been 2 small to carry it (dont know the caliber a person uses to kill pigs so i dont know how big of gun it was). I know personaly i lost a cousin in a hunting accident: Family was taught how to hunt quail right, and still he was accidently shot...nothing could have prevented it.
