More Gun Control Successes

According to the L.A. Daily News, Los Angeles leads the country in murders, followed by New York, Chicago, Detroit, and Philadelphia. Strangely enough, all of these cities (and the states in which they are found) have draconian gun control laws. Since we all know that gun control is an effective means of keeping guns out of the hands of criminals, how are these corresponding murder rates possible?
