Jack’s Back
by Lee

Did you guys watch 24 tonight?  I didn’t really like last season all that much, but I’m really into this episode.  Came out running right out of the gate.  It’s refreshing to see a show like this about an ostensibly political subject be presented without typical liberal Hollywood biases.  Good stuff.

After 4 seasons, the show is getting a little old.  But it’s still relatively compelling if you let it compel you.  Which I did.  Smart of them to play four hours within two days.

If they did that with Firefly maybe people would have watched it.  It took me about the first disk of the DVD to get me really hooked on that one.

Dude, three main characters dead or dying in the first ten minutes, and three dead terrorist by Jack’s hand in the first hour, f’in awesome. I watched season 4 and thought it was iffy, but season 5 seems to be off to a great start. I’m not sure which is more disturbing, Palmer’s death, or Chloe in her underwear smiling, smiling, after sex with a fellow CTU’er, that wasn’t Edgar Stiles.

Blows! My! Mind!

How bad a jealousy complex do you think Edgar will get this season?  It’s already starting.

Okay I skipped the comments here so I wouldn’t know what was happening.  My husband and I just started watching season 1 and are taping 5 until we are caught up.  I have been telling him for two years that this was a good show!!  Oh well, it was fun, we had a 24 marathon over the weekend.  Will probably watch 2 or 3 episodes a night.  We did the same thing with Lost.  Guess we never learn.

I liked it as well, although the concept of a mole at an impossibly high level seems to be a cheap way of doing things.  As much as the show does avoid the Hollywood stereotypes, secret service sure get eff in the A.

I dunno.

It seems a little ridiculous that Jack and that kid could sneak into the parking garage without the van being fully searched. Even more ridiculous that they could slip out of the van without any FBI and Secret Service agents noticing.

Other than that bit of ridiculousness, I’d have to say last night’s season premiere was pretty powerful.

My Five-Point Review:

1. Wow. I heard rumors that there would be some regular characters whacked in the opener, but Palmer? I admit, I did not see that coming. One thing is certain now - if Tony pulls through, he’s coming out of retirement - HARDCORE!

“Let’s roll, Jack. We got some scumbags’ civil rights to violate!”

2. Nice to see Logan is still a dickhead. Talk about characters you love to hate.

3. Chloe’s finally getting laid. Only Edgar needed it more.

4. But, more importantly, she got to shoot a bad guy in the opening episode. Someone get this chick a vest and a pair of leg holsters - hubba hubba.

5. Obligatory Gun Gripe of the Day: Yes, it bugged me when Jack was plugging the bad guy’s car full of holes and he managed to squeeze off at least one round after the slide on his gun was clearly shown to be locked back.

I like the part when Jack pops a cap in the assasin’s head, after promising to take him to the hospital.  Hmm.  I bet if Jack was a marine in Iraq, defending himself, the ACLU would call for him to be thrown in jail.  If I got in a tough situation, I would want Jack to have my back. Not Al Gore.

I spent last night watching “Desperate Housewives” and “Crossing Jordan”.

Needless to say I don’t control the remote on Sunday nights.  However, I did get to see Terri Hatcher in undies.  Muy fantastico!

As I am typically busy Monday/Tuesday nights, I can’t start watching 24, as it usually airs during “Las Vegas”, and my wife has a crush on Josh Duahmel.  Not that I mind.  I like the ladies.

One day, when I’m not applying for positions or birthing new children, I’ll rent the 24 discs and have myself a marathon.  Until then… enjoy!

I’ve never watched the show until last night because it pre-empted the simpsons.  i was too pissed the change the channel.  it seemed like too much posing and ‘gen-x’ wobbly camera work, but i stayed for the violence and gun play.

I watched the 1st 3 seasons in marathons from DVDs from netflix. Very cheap. Even with tivo, it’s annoying skipping over those blasted ads begging me to buy stuff like The New AT&T;or medicine to make my penis very erect and hard (but not for more than 4 hours). I forget who said it but its true: The big race is *who* will be able to deliver these shows conveniently, on-demand, commercial-free, HDTV, for a low price, and they will make all the money. I’m still pissed I missed Desperate Housewives this week (I don’t have tivo right now).

The new season of The Sopranos starts March 12 - rent the old stuff to get ready.
