A major terrorism bust?

Prosecutors are expected to announce charges against two men with New York ties who they say wanted to help the Al Qaeda terror network, according to a report on WNBC-TV in New York.

Law enforcement officials identified one of the suspects as Dr. Rafiq Abdus Sabir.

FBI agents arrested Sabir at his home in Palm Beach County, Florida over the weekend.

Officials said his arrest is the result of an ongoing terror-related investigation in New York. Investigators said Sabir and another man in New York, Terik Shah allegedly pledged support for Al Qaeda and offered to help them in New York and overseas with Jihaddist activities.

Shah is a martial arts expert and may have offered his expertise to help train terrorists, investigators said.

Investigators would not say who the men were in contact with overseas, but officials said the two men were caught with the help of an informant.

Spokesmen for the New York Police Department and FBI declined comment, but investigators told WNBC that charges against Sabir and Shah are expected to be announced this week and will include material support for terrorism.

What this case shows, yet again, is that the liberals are right when they say that we shouldn’t pay extra scrutiny towards Arab Americans.  After all, no Arab American would ever work with a jihadist to try and attack the United States, would they?

If liberals had their way, we’d all be dead already.

I would never be able to vote for a Democrat for President, because they simply cannot be trusted with our national security.

(Speaking of drawing them out of the woodwork...)

Lee, what does “extra scrutiny” actually mean? When you say it like that it sounds fine, but when it gets down to it, what does that actually mean? ie what can the police do to Arab Americans they can’t, to say, you? It seems thats what matters?

Lee, what does “extra scrutiny” actually mean?

Our government is going out of their way, taking extraordinary measures to make sure that we don’t offend anyone of Arabic descent by subjecting them to extra scrutiny at places like airports.  I’ll relay a little story to you that I’ve posted here before.  I went to get on a plane once a couple of years ago.  I was flying first class, so I was part of the first group to get on the plane.  I was third in line, and ahead of me were a young male of Arabic descent and a white female of about fifty years of age.  Guess which one of these two was pulled out of line to be searched.

The idea that all people are an equal threat is absolutely ludicrous, yet out of a sense of PC sensibility we refuse to adopt any policies that might actually be beneficial in preventing terrorism.  This doesn’t just go for airports, it’s at border checkpoints (what few we have), and any other instance in which the public at large is subject to scrutiny by agents of the government.

We should have Israel teach our airport screeners and sky-cops…

Gramma with her walker, O2 bottle and her knitting??? Let her pass…

Young male of Arabic descent???  Strip him down and perform a body cavity search…

Lee,

So whats the solution to your anecodte? Strip search every Arab American? Never do random checks on white women?

Personally I can deal with the idea that Arab Americans are going to be more vigilantly watched at airports and are more likely to be checked. I have flown on my own quite a few times in the US, and without fail I seem to get checked each time, this I don’t really find surprising being a young single travelling foreign male. I never get checked when flying with my American girlfriend.

If all you are talking about by “extra scrutiny” is Arab Americans being checked a little more at airports than other demographics I know I could live with that. I think a lot of people want to go a lot, lot further however.

I think profiling is a great way to increase security efficiency.  When I was a teenager, you’d better believe the gas station clerk was keeping an eye on me, suspecting I might try to pocket some candy bars.  I was slightly offended, never having stolen something so trite (if you’re going to steal, go big!) but I understood that “people like me” are the kind that tend to steal candy bars.

So I got the eye.  Big freakin’ deal.

I’m charged more for car insurance than a female with the same driving record.  Do I throw a fit?  No!  Boys crash cars.

So an Arab gets frisked at the airport.  Show up a little early and go through the process.  It’s not like it’s that bad, right?
