Right Thinking From The Left Coast
You will never live if you are looking for the meaning of life - Albert Camus

Hey Mr. Dj (Friday Open)

It’s Friday. I can use a break, and you can use a break. I’m the hero in my office for my Friday playlists, and they’ll never know it’s because of all of you (yet).

To start up our Friday thread, I have a couple of requests. First, in honor of Gripe, an emo set. I’ll leave the interpretation for that to our creative commenters.

Next, an 8 strong list. In honor of WVR. Fill me with an hour of listening. TGIF!!

Done in the spirit of the older posts where we all put our iPods on random and posted the first few songs that played (except I’m only posting songs that have videos on YouTube)…

And, as I’m working on this post, I’ve noticed that the song titles coming up on random seem to mirror the discourse both in national politics and the comments here, hence the comments after the song titles.

Front 242 - Headhunter. Makes me think of Cheney for some reason.

Aphex Twin - Come to Daddy. This seems to be W’s song to the GOP, considering the line “I want your soul, I will eat your soul”.

Prodigy - Firestarter. Obama’s match under Hillary’s ass? You decide.

Concrete Blonde - Bloodletting. The Democrats primaries anyone?

Suicidal Tendencies - You Can’t Bring Me Down. Obama to Hillary.

Bloodhound Gang - Why’s Everybody Always Picking On Me? Ode to GripeBoy. And I say that with all respect, because I agree with him about 60% of the time.

Dead Milkmen - Methodist Coloring Book. A dedication to all the fundietarda that post here.

Ice-T - I’m Your Pusher. Fitting for Sharpton, Jackson and Wright.

Here’s a great way to end the week - it’s not music, though (and it may not be work safe, particularly if you work with fundie Christians).

I like that the British caller had misshapen, yellow teeth.

A WVR avalanche o’ songs:

“Welcome to the Terrordome” by Public Enemy

“What a Day” by Nonpoint

“Hey Man, Nice Shot” by Filter

“12 Hundred” by Mushroomhead

“A.D.I.D.A.S” by Korn

“Dance Floor Anthem” by Good Charlotte (it’s like a Gripe/WVR two-fer!)

“Love Me Dead” by Ludo (yes, I posted it last week, so what?  It’s quantity that matters here)

“All These Things That I’ve Done” by The Killers

Posted by InsipiD on 05/09/08 at 03:23 AM from United States

I love this tradition, but I don’t do emo.  I guess I’ll rejoin in progress next week.

I love this tradition, but I don’t do emo.  I guess I’ll rejoin in progress next week.

This should help you get into the spirit of things:

Emo dancing

And hey, they dance better than I do.

You can still do a WVR Mega-list, InsipiD.

Another emo one (ironically Christian rock/emo):

“Meant to Live” by Switchfoot

Posted by InsipiD on 05/09/08 at 04:18 AM from United States

This should help you get into the spirit of things:

Emo dancing

Ok, now that was funny.  I’ve seen those things do stuff like that before.  There’s a farm field full of them not far from here.

Avalanche of songs theme: Songs popular during my middle/high school/college years (I didn’t like all of these, but I remember them).

After doing a bit of research, I have come to the conclusion that I know no Emo to speak of.  So, I have opted for an avalanche of “close but no cigar”.

Dig, Laazarus, Dig - for Manwhore

Nick the Stripper - for Thrill

Dirtbag - For Hillary Clinton???

Like the Weather - for dwex, though I guess Natalie Merchant doesn’t qualify as a “Pop Tart” :).

Shout - as Emo as I can get :).  These guys were the precursors.

Mother’s Talk - for dakrat

Stripped - for Lee and his feelings for Hillary :)

Posted by Thrill on 05/09/08 at 10:30 AM from United States

Let’s do some more emo so that flogg will have an idea of what it is:

It involves emotion, from where emo gets its name.  It can be both whiny or angry:

“Vindicated” by Dashboard Confessional

Note that it generally is about love gone wrong:

“Predictable” by Good Charlotte

Or just plain depressing:

“Follow You Into the Dark” by Death Cab for Cutie

For bonus points, the guys should be wearing mascara:

“I’m Not Okay” by My Chemical Romance

Posted by Thrill on 05/09/08 at 10:45 AM from United States

Emo dancing

Interestingly, that reminds me of my favorite one by Ron Paul.

Must be the feathers.

Posted by on 05/09/08 at 10:51 AM from United States

Ok, I get partial credit for “Dirtbag” and “Shout” :).  How about one whiny and one angry:

Pale Shelter - Tears for Fears

Die, Die, Die My Darling - Metallica

Posted by Thrill on 05/09/08 at 12:02 PM from United States

Let me provide another avalanche; this time along political lines like sydellish’s list:

“Lovesong” by The Cure

Beautifully captures the attitude that certain conservative/libertarians have for Obama.

“Tubthumping” by Chumbawamba

A tribute to dwex’s asinine persistence

“Having a Blast” by Green Day

Hillary’s song for the Democratic convention

“Hate Everything About You” by Ugly Kid Joe

The essential song for the BDS-afflicted

“White Minority” by Black Flag

For all the Paulians still hanging on by their fingertips

“Master of Puppets” by Metallica

Honors the monetary and intellectual contributions of George Soros to the Democrat Party

“Back Off Bitch” by Guns N’ Roses

What Barack Axl Obama wishes he could say to Hillary.

Finally, because GNR just so perfectly captures the state of the relationship between all the Democrats and Hillary:

“I Used to Love Her (But I Had to Kill Her)”
