Right Thinking From The Left Coast
"To what purpose are powers limited, and to what purpose is that limitation committed to writing,
if these limits may, at any time, be passed by those intended to be restrained?"
-- Chief Justice John Marshall, Marbury v. Madison, 1803

Girl, Interred

And now the results of midieval thinking in the modern world.

WESTON, Wis. — An 11-year-old girl died after her parents prayed for healing rather than seek medical help for a treatable form of diabetes, police said Tuesday.

Everest Metro Police Chief Dan Vergin said Madeline Neumann died Sunday.

“She got sicker and sicker until she was dead,” he said.

Vergin said an autopsy determined the girl died from diabetic ketoacidosis, an ailment that left her with too little insulin in her body, and she had probably been ill for about 30 days, suffering symptoms like nausea, vomiting, excessive thirst, loss of appetite and weakness.

The girl’s parents, Dale and Leilani Neumann, attributed the death to “apparently they didn’t have enough faith,” the police chief said.

They believed the key to healing “was it was better to keep praying. Call more people to help pray,” he said.

The mother believes the girl could still be resurrected, the police chief said.

With all due respect to Mom, that’s going to be a long wait.

Faith kills.

As a religious person, I prefer to consider modern medicine to be what God has provided as the answer to prayers, not the rejection of them.

FTFA

The girl has three siblings, ranging in age from 13 to 16, the police chief said.

“They are still in the home,” he said. “There is no reason to remove them. There is no abuse or signs of abuse that we can see.”

I can’t tell who is more insane here.  The police chief, or the parents.

We’re not just talking about some backwoods holy-rolling snake handlers.  Even they know when to see a doctor.  These are people who watched their own child deteriorate to death over thirty days.  The last few days of that child’s life must have been horrific to behold.

Yet there is no legal reason to remove the other children from the home?  One can only imagine how these monsters would handle their children’s toothaches.

As a libertarian I despise government interference in the home and “for the children” makes me want to puke.  However, wouldn’t this be a legitimate use of government?  Is there anyone who wouldn’t consider this an unsafe home for any child?

Naturally, we may not have the full story.  But this just disgusts me.

Christian Scientists most likely. You can’t cure stupid. This is horrible, horrific, nauseating etc, just like people who smother their children to death during their “rebirth”. Can the state or government step in when the health or life of a child or adult is severely threatened due to religious views?

This may not be an unsafe home for the HEALTHY children. Look at the vaccination debate, can we force people to take medical care? We don’t now, maybe Obama-Clintons socialized health care will fix that. I am disgusted as well, there is no excuse, god did it or allah wills it is such a fucking weak ass pathetic cop out I can’t even begin to understand.

Faith kills.

Stupidity kills, and you should be able to tell the difference.

I am suprised that charges were not filed for child endangering, I imagine this is being considered. I would like to see the parents prosecuted, not to be thrown in jail or removed as custodial parents from the rest of their kids, but placed on probation, and a condition of that probation would be monthly visits from child protective services and an order from the judge to seek medical attention for the rest of the kids in leu of prison time if this mandate is violated.

As a libertarian I despise government interference in the home and “for the children” makes me want to puke.

Most laws were enacted because people were too stupid to be reasonable and prudent.

If she does come back, they might not like it:

*The girl rises out of the grave as a zombie*

“Brains!  Brains!”

*She grabs her mother by the neck and knocks on the side of her head, before throwing her mother aside and yelling:*

“BRAAAINS!”

Seriously, people like this make me wonder if it’s too late to defect to Albania.

Aw, I was being sarcastic based on the idiot parents’ statement:

The girl’s parents, Dale and Leilani Neumann, attributed the death to “apparently they didn’t have enough faith,” the police chief said.

In this case, excessive faith did kill. You know I don’t think faith in general kills. Apparently, stupidity can lead to dangerous faith.

When I lived in Colorado there were a few cases like this involving 7th dayers - eventually they started filing charges against the parents and taking their kids away.

I think a hanging or two would have helped get the point across as well....
