Gas Tax Scam

Heh:

CONFIDENTIAL/URGENT POLITICAL PROPOSAL
Dear Sir

First we must solicit your confidence in this issue. This is by virtue as being utterly confidential and “top secret”.

We are SENATOR HILLARY CLINTON, the wife of the former United States head of state, PRESIDENT BILL CLINTON, and also SENATOR JOHN MCCAIN, friend and associate of current head of state PRESIDENT GEORGE W BUSH. We got your contact through business inquiries as we were searching for contacts of a citizen who can help save our and our family’s political careers since our country has been frustrating us.

We are top officials of the United States Senate Government who are interested in importation of oil into our country with funds that are presently trapped in the FEDERAL TRANSPORTATION TRUST FUND dedicated to improving transportation. We wish to send this money to overseas accounts in the MIDDLE EAST but cannot due to restrictions in Congress Transportation Equity Act requiring that this money must be spent to build roads, bridges and high speed trains.

If you accept we will deliver to your a sum of 30 DOLLARS in the summer 2008 in form of a “GAS TAX HOLIDAY”. You will then deliver this money to accounts of our friends in Middle East by taking it to your nearby gasoline station where they have information to forward the money. Please supply your bank account, social security number, address and your vote in DEMOCRATIC PRIMARIES AND NOVEMBER GENERAL ELECTION.

But bear in mind that this transaction requires absolute confidentiality. Do not visit http://WWW.GASTAXSCAM.COM where there is information about dangers of our proposal and a petition to stop us from this diversion of funds.

PLEASE NOTIFY US URGENTLY OF YOUR ACCEPTANCE OF THIS PROPOSAL

Awaiting your rapid response

Yours truly

SENATORS HILLARY CLINTON AND JOHN MCCAIN

Oh, it would be so nice if we could get them to hold the humiliating signs as some have done to the Nigerian scammers (link NSFW).

I did a wikipedia page on scam baiting for on of my college classes last year.  The page has changed significantly since my edits, but my picture is still there.  I was quite fond of it :).  Wikipedia is now threatening to take the pic down even though I got permission from the original site to use it.  There were several really funny stories, like the guy that carved a Commodore 64 .

Clinton and McCain, birds of a feather, right? Two shameless panderers. No, you wouldn’t see your boy stupe to such tactics. He is too busy cutting deals with teamsters union to facilitate their orgainzed crime dealings.

How about a post on Obama buying the endorsement of the Teamsters by promising to collar the state dept. in their pursuit of organized crime within the unions? No, thats not juicy enough, besides, here at RTFTLC, your job is to promote the redeamer, not expose him.

My standard response to any 419 scams that get through my filters (not very many of those in the last few years) is to tell them to immediately deposit the funds into the paypal account associated with my email address.

Had one guy going for about two weeks before he finally got pissed off and said “it didn’t work that way"…

This spoof is very well done.

rich, in general you are right on your analysis of this position stuff. But in this specific case (the “tax holiday” thing), this is one time when Obama is right, and McCain (and Hillary as McCain shill for purposes of defeating Obama) are just wrong. This is a complete scam. I ran my commuting through the calculator linked off the site; I’ll save something like $18.50 with this over the course of the summer, and only because my SUV gets such craptastic gas mileage.

Is he? Back in 2000 he voted FOR the Illinois state gas tax holiday, so whats changed?

Maybe because he did not think of it first (he was for it then, but against it now) so now he has to seperate himself from the others.

Yeah, pandering is low (but typical for candidates), flip-flopping is worse.

I called him on this in an earlier post.  His claim is that he saw it did no good.  The IL tax was also a lot smaller than the Fed tax.

I just saw the Obama Teamster story.  I’ll put up something about it tonight.  Obama did pander to the unions on NAFTA and supports the ironically name Employee Choice Act., both of which were disgusting.

The IL tax was also a lot smaller than the Fed tax.

Which would make him an even bigger boob for thinking the temporary suspension of a dinky little tax would do anything at all.

His claim is that he saw it did no good.

OK, so how about instead of wagging his finger and throwing accusations of pandering around, he says ,” I tried this bit of pandering myself back in 2000 as a state legislator and we found out back then that this gas tax suspension did not work, so thats why I’m against it now”.

I’ll put up something about it tonight.

Appreciate it, I think its an important story.

id rather see the taxes imposed on the oil compnies killed, that with the Federal tax gone would take a small bite out of the price of gas.
oh maybe how bout we FUCKING drill here more and build more fucking refinery’s.
How about one nations fuel blend?

The trouble with spending Federal money for “high-speed trains” is that it won’t work.  The railroads themselves don’t want to arse about with passengers (liability alone would be a killer, not to mention the hassles---you can’t park a trainload of passengers on a side track for four hours the way you can cargo) and the population’s not there to support it outside of the Northeastern urban corridor.

Amtrak is government for “boondoggle.”

Amtrak is government for “boondoggle.”

If they get rid of it, they need a viable replacement for the northeast corridor. I routinely ride Amtrak between DC and NYC rather than fly. Even including commuting downtown to get to Union Station on the DC Metro, it’s about the same amount of time it takes me to get from the office through Dulles to La Guardia to downtown. And it’s a lot less hassle.
