Fact-Checking … SNL?

WTF?  I realize you are biased, CNN.  But do you have to be so obvious about it?

I especially love that the White House refused comment.  That is, the political creatures at 1600 PA understood that it was a fucking comedy sketch, something that apparently eluded CNN’s crack team.  I also love the contrast to the Palin sketches.  I’ll agree that Tina Fey was a much better Palin than Armison is an Obama.  But those sketches were not exactly known for their factual accuracy ...  because it was comedy!

CNN has hit rock bottom.  They used to be good; now they’re just a joke, an unfunny joke; an SNL-level joke.

I agree totally Hal, I’m in New Zealand and am watching the media bias in your country with total astonishment. (And it is really really bad here) we already are a socialist state - lead largely by a left wing media - Do not under estimate them.

I used to like CNN but when I saw this a few hours ago I was so disgusted that I simply will not bother with them again.

Fox gets a lot of viewers down here and thank god for that.... BUT.... far to many of my right wing friends that don’t watch Fox seem to think Obama is doing a fantastic job… wonder where they get that idea from?

I’m actually really disappointed in Politicafact for getting involved in if a SNL sketch was completely true or not.

I’ll give them a pass, but I’ll be keeping an eye out.  It just looks bad when they are involved damage control from a “comedy” sketch.

Oh I don’t know, watch CNN’s video again, they call the Tina Fey impression dead on, where Obama clearly needs to be rescued with a ‘fact check’. Funny though, the biggest joke is on CNN. Their fact checking is reduced to analyzing comedy sketches. Now there’s something for SNL to make fun of.

Why is anyone surprised about this? Have you not been paying attention to how the MSM has treated Obama in the last two years? The guy was elected because of their biased coverage! Why would they stop doing it now? This is their dude, and they have a vested interest in making him look good. When people find out how crappy Obama is it reflects badly on the MSM.

Most MSM outlets, but especially CNN, also hate the fact they can’t tell people what the facts are - true or not – anymore, and that’s what really should worry those of us that don’t wake up in the morning and hum the national anthem of the old USSR as we go about our lives.

No they hit rock bottom a number of years ago, when in the aftermath of the Iraq invasion it was reviled that CNN has a sweetheart deal with Hussein. Where CNN got exclusiveness rights, provided they “Let” the Iraqi government filter what they broadcast out of Iraq.
Now on the subject at hand.
Did FOX new ever do anything similar, over Bush?

This the same media that repeated the sarah palin quote of “I can see russia from my house” as if she had actually made such an idiotic statement (hint, also an SNL sketch, it was never vetted by CNN though).

So I guess liberals only have a sense of humor when they are out of power.

Which is funny, because during the Bush years (and especially when An American Carol was getting ready to come out) all you heard about was how conservatives have no sense of humor and all their humor sucks and is just an attack and yadda yadda.

Posted by HARLEY on 10/06/09 at 09:11 AM from United States

American Carol was amusing, for a Gawf or two but really not that funny.

So I’ve heard. I guess the larger point I was getting at was that the Left is really deep into that place where their bias is so ingrained that they can’t help but see everything as tinted by it. Left-wing stuff is automatically funnier, Right-wing stuff is automatically humorless. It’s not like this is unique to the Left, but it does seem to be wider-spread and more ingrained among them.

I mean, have you noticed that the vast majority of “it’s so preachy” and “it’s just not as funny anymore” and “they’ve run out of ideas” as applied to South Park started about the same time as the term South Park Republicans began actually getting some popularity? Meanwhile, while you’ll find pockets of resistance that will admit to Simpsons sucking balls nowadays, even there you’ll still find a lot of “but it’s still better than South Park”, and in other places it’s still made out as if it’s the smartest show on TV… because it’s never really had its “Liberal cred” tarnished.

About the only one that doesn’t fall under this is Family Guy… it still gets some “but it’s still better than ______”, but for the most part everyone will admit that it’s shit, regardless of political alignment. The only reason it’s still on, and that Fox continues to make more spinoffs and one-offs of it, is that Seth McFarlane is the Uwe Boll of animated sitcoms… he churns out crap for so ridiculously cheap that the profit margin is huge no matter what.

Posted by on 10/06/09 at 04:09 PM from United States

May I wantonly play with your analogy, Rann?

I’d say McFarlane is more the Seltzer and Friedberg of animation.  Not only does he have the “budget so small it’s almost pure profit” factor, he also doesn’t know the difference between pop-culture parody and pop-culture references.

I was going to mention that.  Absolutely disgusting behavior.  At one pont, they were reading press releases handed to them by the Hussein goverment.

Some of these press releases from the WH these days, especially the stuff about the government takeover of healthcare, remind me of the same kind of thing. I wonder if Bagdad Bob got a new job with the MSM....

Just when I feel completely numb to the whole leftwing bias trope CNN proves they still can shock the conscience.

Just awful, that clip. Shameless really. And people are surprised at the popularity of Fox News.

Another interesting CNN item:

I was watching some Dem strategist (Kiki something or other?) “debate” Mann Coulter on Larry King last night about Afghanistan, among other things.  I’m no huge fan of Ann, and I think Larry King scares little children, but the “debate” featured a calm, reasoned Coulter listing items during her time and listening calmly while the Dem stated her items.  The Dem, OTOH, constantly shook her head and laughed as Coulter stated her position on the items being discussed.  Every fact that Coulter brought up was simply ignored or dismissed and mockingly laughed at or worse.  The condecension was evident and I also beleive by his tone, that the living mummy King supported the immature actions of the Dem chick.  It was pretty sad, really, because she looked like a spoled child attempting to argue with her blind, overly supportive parent, King, looking on.
