Right Thinking From The Left Coast
"To what purpose are powers limited, and to what purpose is that limitation committed to writing,
if these limits may, at any time, be passed by those intended to be restrained?"
-- Chief Justice John Marshall, Marbury v. Madison, 1803

Enema of the State
by Lee

From Sullivan:

Meet Professor Walter F. Murphy, emeritus of Princeton University. He’s a former Marine, with five years of active service and 19 years in the reserve, and a legal critic of Roe vs Wade and supporter of the Alito confirmation. He’s also on the Terrorist No-Fly List:

“I presented my credentials from the Marine Corps to a very polite clerk for American Airlines. One of the two people to whom I talked asked a question and offered a frightening comment: “Have you been in any peace marches? We ban a lot of people from flying because of that.” I explained that I had not so marched but had, in September, 2006, given a lecture at Princeton, televised and put on the Web, highly critical of George Bush for his many violations of the Constitution. “That’ll do it,” the man said.”

You don’t have to worry about this, though, because I read it on Sullivan’s blog and he’s in favor of gay marriage, so anything he publishes can be immediately discounted.

You want to know what the Bush administration is?  They’re everything the left has ever accused the right of being.  Everything.

The Bush administration politicizing the No-Fly List? They would never do that!

WWCD?  What Would Clinton Do?

Sorry, I couldn’t resist :)

Is there any area formerly unpoliticized that they have yet to trample?

I’m more shocked that a country which values freedom so much isnt outraged by this.

Sadly, something like this doesn’t seem so impossible:

I’d check and confirm this story if I were you Lee...it sounds like BS to me.

Wow Lee.  Some stupid, lazy ogvernment worker makes a mistake somewhere, and it is Bush’s fault.  You really believe that his name was on there because he was in a peace march?  How many times have we heard someone run bullshit like that before, and then never hear about it again.

Oh, and Lee, Bush isn’t everything the left has accused him of being.  Because, if he was, they would love him like they love Castro, Chavez, Mugabe, Stalin, Mao, and every other dirtbag dictator.

At least once. Probably more.

Of course, sometimes its recycled.

Of course, even in its original posting, it is still a second hand account of what someone supposedly encountered.  But I guess that qualifies it as absolute truth for some.

I smell a rat.  Even if true, nobody on the government payroll would actually cop to it.

Yes, it’s so bad it couldn’t possibly be true.  But if it is true it’s not THAT bad, and anyway Clinton did it.

Does that cover all of the blanket denials, or did I miss one?

It is not that “it’s so bad that it couldn’t possibly be true.” It is more like “Why would a TSA employee at an airport tell someone why they were on a terror watch list?” or even “How would a TSA employee at an airport know what it takes to even qualify to get on the terror watch list?”

That would be akin to a clerk at your local gas station explaining to a customer that the price of gas is so high because Hugo Chavez needed to hire more thugs to rig the local elections in a small Venezualan village.  It’s just not something that that person would or should have any credible knowledge of.

Did I mention that my cousin’s former college roommate has an ex-boyfriend who is a busboy for all of the White House dinners.  He said that for Easter dinner, the Whitehouse had a bunch of poor African American orphan’s ground up into patt’e and served as an appetizer.  Remember, now that it is printed on the internet (and especially since it is disparaging of the Bush Administration), it MUST be true.

Just like them Bushies to go and serve something not USDA approved. Give me a minute, this has to of infringed on my civil liberties somewhere.

SG, I had to go double check the cover art at the nin hotline, but I knew I recognized that number…

I too would have to question the authenticity of this account. Just does not seem to have a ring of truth to it.

I found Professor Murphy’s website and sent him an email if he could confirm the contents of the blog.

I may not get a message, but I would like to hear the account from the person who actually experienced the events and not from someone who heard the story second hand.

Posted by on 04/09/07 at 08:31 PM from United States

I did get a response back from Professor Murphy. Essencially he did confirm that he was put on the Terror Watch List.

He did not confirm if the story told in the blog was true, and to be honest this was probably because I did not specifically ask him to confirm the blog...I asked if the story of him being on the Terror Watch List was true.

He then said that the airport personnel would know more about who was banned because they deny the boarding passes and TSA officials usually do not come out and speak with people who have been banned.

To me, regardless of whether the conversation described in the blog is correct or not, I have to wonder why he was on the Terror Watch List in the first place.

The conclusion I come to is that he was placed there for harrassment purposes.

The story that played out in the blog still may not be true, but the fact that this man was put on the list to begin with concerns me deeply.

If it haoppened its lame and disgusting...check it out though..

This story is exactly the kind of thing Matt Drudge would be all over, and we haven’t heard a peep from him. This smells like bullshit to me.
