Come Marchin’ In

It looks like JP tha Deuce is going to become a Saint.

Pope Benedict XVI said Friday he had begun the process for the sainthood of Pope John Paul II, overriding the usual five-year waiting period following the death of a possible candidate.

The pope made the announcement during a meeting with the Roman clergy at the Basilica of St. John Lateran, first telling the assembled priests, “and now I have a very joyous piece of news for you.”

Immediately following Pope John Paul’s death on April 2, there were calls from faithful for his sainthood. At his funeral Mass, pilgrims held up banners saying “Santo Subito” ("Immediate Sainthood").

The announcement came on the anniversary of an 1981 assassination attempt by a Turkish gunman against John Paul in St. Peter’s Square.

The pope read a letter in Latin in which the Vatican official in charge of sainthood, Cardinal Jose Saraiva Martins, announced that Benedict himself had authorized the beginning of John Paul’s path to sainthood. The announcement drew a standing ovation from the Roman priests.

Benedict, who had been seated, stood up to join the clergy in applauding the major tribute to his predecessor.

In return, the Saints agree to give the Vatican two first round draft picks and a player to be named later.

The ‘Aints will still never make it to the Super Bowl, even with JPII’s blistering speed across the middle.

check out this story baby death

especially this part.

In her closing argument Thursday, the Schmidts’ attorney, Carrie Miles, characterized the case as a church vs. state issue. If jurors convicted the Schmidts, she said, they would be saying there is freedom of religion—“as long as you agree with the state.”

they let thier baby die when help was available, they don’t think they did anything wrong, now they’re trying to say that they are being persecuted for thier beliefs.

well, a 12 year old isn’t really a baby...I guess I was using a tactic I saw the media use.

doesn’t the Vatican have the same stance basically?  Prayer is better than science when it comes to health?

apparently they let three children die and the 12 y/o died in ‘99

No the Vatican does not hold the stance that one should refuse treatment in favor of prayer.  Yes we indeed do believe in the power of prayer, but not exclusively.  God gave doctors those abilities.  It is not wrong to seek treatment.

I guess “Prayer is better than science” may be somewhat true, but it does not in anyway mean that we refuse medical science.

I guess you’d have to ask all of those NFP Catholic and other Church-based hospitals…

People like this infuriate me. Someone who allows that baby to suffer and die like that, when simple medical treatment is available are sick. And the other family in the article that had THREE children die because they refused treatment??? Is that really what they think God wants? Wouldn’t you think their faith might be shaken just a bit when God refuses to answer their prayers and kills their children one by one? Morons.

Just to be clear:  NFP = not for profit (not “natural family planning").

OT but interesting and relevant to bloggers. Feel free to remove.

I’m going to regret posting this when the anti frenchness kicks in you can’t deny stupid shit when it stares you in face…

French blogger being sued by city mayor for criticizing his town

The city has voted a budget of 29 000 € (!) to attack him.

A brief overview of French law suggests that, assuming that this is a defamation action, the classic defences of truth, good faith and qualified privilege are applicable and the burden of proof in this case rests with the Mayor to show that any offending statements have been made in the deliberate knowledge that they are untrue.

The Pope was rushed to the hospital how many times in the weeks before he died?  I think you know the answer to your question.
