Right Thinking From The Left Coast
Adventure is worthwhile - Aesop

Apparently, he realizes that outsourcing can be a good thing.

So, only a month after Mark Sanford separated himself from the thoroughly hopeless Lindsey Graham, his potential Presidential campaign is, essentially, already over.

He and his wife can figure this out between themselves, and it’s to his credit that upon his return, rather than trying to weave an elaborate fiction and drag this process out, he came clean right away. Hiowever, this incident does really piss me off, simply because I’ve worked on campaigns in positions of sufficient responsibility to lead me to sympathize with how awful this must be for the people who depend on him for their livelihoods.

Reporter: “So, where is the Governor?”

Spokesman: “Hold on a moment, we’re still trying to come up with something plausible and unverifiable.”

Reporter: “What?”

Spokesman: “What I meant to say is, he’s hiking the Appalachian Trail.”

Reporter: “Where on the Appalachian Trail is he?”

Spokesman: “If I told you that, that would give you something to try to check out, and that would just raise further questions.”

Reporter: “Isn’t it Naked Hiking Day on the Appalachian Trail today?”

Spokesman:Whoa. Well, one thing I can say with absolute certainty is the Governor was completely unaware of that when we last saw him, completely unaware of that situation where the Governor is today, uh, on the Appalachian Trail. When he gets back, he’ll be just as surprised as we are, or, I mean, would’ve been surprised, when he learned of it, while he was there. Is there. Hiking. Now.”

Reporter: “We’ve just learned that the Governor was seen stepping off a plane from Argentina.”

Spokesman:Really?

Reporter: “Yes.”

Spokesman: “Holy crap. I’m going to go update my resume and swing by Kinko’s. If any of your fine media outlets are interested in hiring a political analyst, you can get my email address at the door.”

The entire gubernatorial staff gets to go home and explain to their families why, instead of looking forward to a future in Washington, that there’s now a very good chance that they’ll be looking for new jobs at some point in the foreseeable future because the boss felt compelled to do, well, whatever it was, exactly, that he felt he needed to do with “Maria” without even bothering to try to figure out something workable with his staff before he left town. Meanwhile, the libertarian-leaning candidate that many of us were just starting to get used to is pretty much off the table.

I hope she was worth it.

What is it with these politicians? Is there a personality trait that makes them this stupid and prone to dumb actions, or is it something that comes with the job? At least he crashed and burned before some important campaign where he actually was a contender.

I think there must be a law somewhere that says, when the opposition party is in power, you have to do as much as possible to shoot yourself in the foot…

So now it looks like it’s down to Mike Huckabee and Mitt Romney as the “Serious” contenders, God help us.

The bottom line is that many women are attracted to power.  With so many (usually highly attractive) women vying for the affections of powerful men, it takes a strong man to resist the parade of women at his door.

True, but in reading their email exchanges, he was declaring his impassioned, burning love for her, declaring their situation “impossible” and “hopeless”.

Not that I begrudge a man getting his heart tripped up in his wang, but you’d think the Governor of South Carolina would’ve figured out that he can’t just vanish for a few days and expect nobody to notice.

Additionally, this guy must have a wheelbarrow to carry his balls around in, considering that his press conference was basically about what an amazing woman his mistress is.

What gets me is that he was able to up and vanish for as long as he did in this day and age.

And I do give him credit for owning up to it and taking it like a man, but still, between him and John Ensign, this has not been a good time for the party of “Values.”

When are these dipshits going learn that this isn’t France?  Seriously - you start getting side action while being an American politician and you WILL get busted.  Playing the “morality” card at any point in your career is just going to be your political death warrant at that point.

If you’re going to screw around, don’t pretend that you’re above that sort of shit - cop to it ahead of time.

Of course, I’m waiting for Obama to get caught with his cock down some blond girl’s throat in some seldom-used corner of the White House; Michelle will most likely just cut his junk off at that point....

It is amusing that the media went bonkers over this story from the get-go, but were willing to sit on the even more sordid John Edwards fiasco.

Anyway, I say good riddance to Sanford.

Part of my point that wasn’t clear when I first made it is that in the long parade of women at his door, a politician will often find someone he’s really into.  That’s the trap into which many of them fall.

this has not been a good time for the party of “Values.”

The fact that Ensign and Sanford’s careers are now over is pretty good evidence that this is a bunch of horseshit.

Ensign may be able to stick around—he’s a senator, after all—but yeah, Sanford is toast. It sounds like he has plenty of enemies in South Carolina politics, many in his own party, and they’ll see to it that this ruins him.

The best line I heard was that if Sanford had cheated on his taxes instead of his wife, he’d be a cabinet member now.

There are only two types of politicians:

Those who have been caught being douchebags

and

Those who have not yet been caught being douchebags

Seriously.  Why do we waste any ounce of our time and attention putting our faith into any of these jokers?  If politics were religion (and many times, it is), you can count me in the growing list of those who are heading towards atheism.
