Right Thinking From The Left Coast
"To what purpose are powers limited, and to what purpose is that limitation committed to writing,
if these limits may, at any time, be passed by those intended to be restrained?"

Christocapitalism

Texas, as we all know, is Bush country, very Republican.  And those few Democrats who get elected are hardly the bleeding heart hippie type.  This is a solidly Christian state.  On my recent drive to Austin I counted 46 churches, and these were just the ones visible from the highway.

No matter where in the country you live daytime TV shows advertisements for two main groups:  trial lawyers and trade schools.  Meet the fusion of Texas Christianity and trial lawyers:  Simmons and Fletcher, the Christian trial attorneys.

“...It is our purpose to serve God by resolving personal injury cases for our clients in a prompt and caring manner, maximizing their recovery and our profit, while modeling Christian attitudes and behaviors.”

Wait, it gets better.

Robert S. Simmons, the firm founder, has practiced law for 36 years. Robert graduated from the University of Houston in 1964 with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree, and from the University of Houston Law Center in 1966 with a Doctorate of Juris Prudence degree.  After practicing law for 8 years, it was in 1975 that he felt lead [sic] by the Lord to form Brothers’ Brother Attorneys, a professional corporation, which continues today under the d/b/a Simmons & Fletcher, Attorneys at Law.

“Come visit Kroger, the Christian grocery store!”

“Chang’s Laundry Service:  None of us are Buddhists any more, praise Jesus!”

“Carpetworld, the Christian carpet wholesaler.  When you see only one set of footprints in our carpet, that’s Jesus picking you up and carrying you.”

Texas.  You gotta love it.

P.S.  Never trust a lawyer who can’t spell.
