The Discovery Gunman

Here’s a multiple choice exam.  The man who attacked the Discovery Channel today had a manifesto.  In it, he rants about human population control, immigration, war, global warming, the economy, housing, endangered species, etc.  With the exception of a rant on illegal immigration, it’s mostly radical left wing environmentalist stuff.

Is the appropriate response to this loser to:

1) Claim that he’s obviously been inspired by the anti-wealth and environmental rhetoric of the left, just as right-wing violence has been inspired by anti-government rhetoric?

2) Admit he’s just a nut and the political rantings of nuts should not be taken seriously?  He could just as well have been ranting about the aliens controlling his mind as environmentalism?

3) Claim that this man is a nut and his rantings don’t impugn the Left; but rantings of anti-government loons definitely impugn the Right?

I’ll give you three guesses as to where the Left Wing commentariat is going with this. Anti-immigrant sentiment formed a very small part of this manifesto.

The Message Is Not the Medium

I haven’t commented on the Glenn Beck rally this weekend since I was in transit and it crossed me as more of a religious revival than a political event, which set by interest-o-meter to “low”.  However, one interesting aspects of it was the failed attempts by the Left to find racist signs in the rally.  The Beck people actually asked people not to bring signs to the rally as they wanted to keep it less political.

But that’s good enough for some people.  Apparently, this is not about message discipline; this is just masking the real racism that festers in the hearts of the Beckistas.

You just can’t win with these people.  If protestors show up with racist signs—even if, as happened with Dale Robertson—they are immediately asked to leave, this unveils secret racism.  If signs are discouraged, this conceals racism.  Either way, they’re a bunch of racists.

Update: Incidentally, the rally for Beck involved leaders of all faiths, including Islam, and raised millions to benefit the children of soldiers.  What a horrible horrible thing to go on in Washington.

How quickly they soured us on their ideology, huh?

On November 5th, 2008 the smug liberals told us that they had finally crushed the idiotic and evil machine, that the American people had spoken, and that collectivism was the wave of the future. Unlike their reactions in 2000 - where they simply decided to ignore reality and created the twisted notion in their even more twisted minds that the one that stole the election was Bush & the SCOTUS, and not Gore with his army of lawyers and the Florida Supremes – which started the liberal slide into illogical insanity, and 2004, where they were dejected to see the country simply not trust that buffoon John Kerry, and driven even further into the wilderness, they could not wait to get out and rub salt into the wounds of the opposition. We were told that the world was finally saved, that other countries would finally love us again, the economy would be fixed, that evil America would stop torturing people and inflict war on poor people whose only crime was that they were brown, everyone would magically be working according to their ability, and get back according to their needs, and Utopia would follow. Cats and dogs would start living together! Oh wait, that was Bill Murray’s character in Ghost Busters, but you get the point. They laid it on thick.

We were promised decades of liberal rule for the evils of the capitalist right. Many of us that experienced the Carter years and knew better, told them that the gloat was not just premature, but that once the American people got a taste of the insanity that’s part & parcel of the left’s ideology and governing, that they would sour on it, and sour on it fast. So it isn’t a surprise to me to discover that just 2 years into their reign of fire that Americans now trust the GOP more on almost all election issues, as the below graph clearly shows.

image

I and many others weren’t fooled for a second by Obama and the demcorats sweet talking and promises of “Hope & Change” – as I said I remember the Carter years, and to anyone that was paying real attention the left’s ideological shift was so drastic it compared to Carter idiocy redux on steroids - that these people could do anything but set us back. The GOP might have been bad at these things when they had power, but the demcorats, especially the current crop of elitist bastards and crooks, make the GOP losers look damned awesome. And the shift took just 2 years of liberal policy & rule to happen.

No, this is not me gloating. I remain quite aware that the GOP will now actually have to do what the American people want, or they too will face our wrath, and then sooner than later. It might surprise you that am actually looking forward to that, though. I seriously believe that if the GOP, once they have power, doesn’t derail this collectivist behemoth that is driving us at Warp speed into the abyss, reverses course of this out of control spending and lunacy, and lets the American people down yet again, that they will be gone too. The one thing I do know is that the American people, now that they know what they will get under democrat rule, the disastrous policies and last 2 years will still be fresh in their minds, will not go back to the demcorats. At least not the sane ones. And while I expect the left to revert to the same tired tactics of the 8 tiresome Bush years, I doubt the American people will buy either the propaganda or the obstructionist anti-Americanism. It will be their Armageddon if they do so. We might even end up with a third party finally breaking the deadlock that elephants and donkeys have had on our government, and even might be set back on the path of exceptionally when they finally gut that bureaucratic monster that pretends to be serving our needs while really enslaving us to its ever growing appetite for control and power.

Tonight’s speech by Obama on Iraq…

Tonight President Obama is scheduled to deliver a speech about the whole Iraq situation. Frankly I am intrigued at how the morons in the WH will try to play this. It seems all bad things they inherited from Bush, but this victory that clearly came from the efforts of our troops that these same grandstanding demcorats put in harms way with their actions and words, and the conviction of President Bush to fight it despite the fact that the opposition was trying to hand our troops another Vietnam-like loss - if you believe the talking heads that are predicting this - that the WH is going to claim is theirs. I doubt Obama will give credit to Bush for this, because that’s not his way. If he does, he will somewhere in there take it back and blame Bush. Maybe by indirectly brining up the liberal meme that Bush faked the intel, red meat for the morons that buy this crap, or some such other nonsense. I certainly hope he credits the troops. And of course he will play to his left wing moonbats and claim he is keeping his promise. The problem is that it will be all show, and we won despite of him and his party, while there is still a risk that we might be pulling out too soon.

The fact is that Obama was part & parcel of the donkey lineup that made the claim back when Bush’s team announced they would pursue the surge option, that it was going to fail. I do give him credit for not declaring it a failure before it happened like Reed did, or for slandering our troops or taking other actions to help the enemy’s cause like Murtha and other demcorats did, but Obama was one of the people that tried - real hard - to derail any and all efforts intended to support our troops and give them what they needed to win in Iraq. Obama made it a point during his campaigning – I mean before the election, not the continued campaigning they are doing almost 2 years after taking the WH and that is making everyone stop wondering if these morons know anything else – to say Iraq was still a failure, and that unless he was elected to fix it by pulling out the troops, things would get even worse. In short, this guy, while not going as far as many in his party have, was if not outright rooting for us to lose in Iraq, at least vested in making our efforts in Iraq look & go bad, for political and personal gain. And the troops at least seem to know that. Of course, I doubt the Lame Stream Media will bring any of that up.

Even more interesting, as I already pointed out, is the fact that most believe that Obama is about to likely claim he kept his campaign promise and that this withdrawal is due his work, when there is no doubt for anyone willing to do the leg work that the pullout going on right now was following Bush’s team’s withdrawal time table, set a long time ago, and the only contribution from the Obama team was that they didn’t fuck it all up in Iraq and pull defeat right out of the jaws of victory before now, as many of us suspected they would. My guess is that the LSM would go right along and hand him that credit. After all, he is their guy, and he desperately needs to be propped up, because the mood of the American people after seeing Obama & the progressive left in action these past 2 years is dour indeed, and November promises a massacre at the polls for the left.

Then you have the fact that Obama now is ramping up the fighting in Afghanistan, which promises to be a difficult and costly slugfest. I wonder if he and his team realize now why Bush’s team moved the fight to Iraq back in 2003. And this whole endeavor seems to be mired in doubt, what with all the talk of a fixed withdrawal table and all, despite the fact he has put General Petraeus whom immediately opted to go on the offensive and actually do some killin’ – hear much about that in the LSM these days? No stories of US troops murdering babies either, huh? - in charge of that operation as well. And then there is of course Iran, which I still feel Bush made a mistake not to deal with at the same time as they took on Iraq.

Say what you want, but tonight’s speech should be interesting. At least it should provide people with a lot to waste time on. Me, I bet it will be a lot of nothing, Obama grandstanding and campaigning, taking credit for other people’s work, blaming Bush as usual for his mistakes, and then the fawning LSM telling us how lucky we are to have this guy in charge. I sure hope I am wrong.

Heavy handed attempt to put lipstick on the ugliest pig ever…

The usual Lame Stream Media propagandists must be desperate to try and defend the close to $1 trillion dollar stimulus patronage bill known as the “The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009” as this desperate and transparently vain attempt by Time tries to make this pig pretty proves.

The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 — President Obama’s $787 billion stimulus — has been marketed as a jobs bill, and that’s how it’s been judged. The White House says it has saved or created about 3 million jobs, helping avoid a depression and end a recession. Republicans mock it as a Big Government boondoggle that has failed to prevent rampant unemployment despite a massive expansion of the deficit. Liberals complain that it wasn’t massive enough.

But Our Rich Guys Are Decent

I have some admiration for Jane Mayer. Her book The Dark Side is eye-opening on the torture regime implemented by the last Administration.  But she recently wrote an article detailing the evil Koch Brothers and their war against Obama.

The Kochs are longtime libertarians who believe in drastically lower personal and corporate taxes, minimal social services for the needy, and much less oversight of industry—especially environmental regulation. These views dovetail with the brothers’ corporate interests.

...

But Charles Lewis, the founder of the Center for Public Integrity, a nonpartisan watchdog group, said, “The Kochs are on a whole different level. There’s no one else who has spent this much money. The sheer dimension of it is what sets them apart. They have a pattern of lawbreaking, political manipulation, and obfuscation. I’ve been in Washington since Watergate, and I’ve never seen anything like it. They are the Standard Oil of our times.”

The rest of it is of a similar vein.  It took me about ten seconds to see what was wrong with this, as Ira Stoll notes:

Charles Lewis is a left-winger and the Center for Public Integrity gets its funding from left-wing foundations including George Soros’s Open Society Institute and Barbra Streisand’s Streisand Foundation.

Bing!  Mayer addresses Soros briefly:

Of course, Democrats give money, too. Their most prominent donor, the financier George Soros, runs a foundation, the Open Society Institute, that has spent as much as a hundred million dollars a year in America. Soros has also made generous private contributions to various Democratic campaigns, including Obama’s. But Michael Vachon, his spokesman, argued that Soros’s giving is transparent, and that “none of his contributions are in the service of his own economic interests.”

This is absurd.  Mayer quotes the Kochs’ critics extensively, often anonymously.  But when it comes time to talk about Soros, she only repeats a quote from his spokesman.

And it’s a wrong quote.  George Soros waged a perpetual personal political war against George W. Bush and has funded tons of political organizations that masquerade as non-partisan but are, in fact, partisan as hell and often disguise their assocation.  Media Matters is a perfect example.  They are relentlessly partisan: you may remember in the ACORN scandal that they uncritically parroted the ACORN line.  They have claimed they are not funded by Soros but later admitted to back door funding from MoveOn and CAP.  Put the Kochs’ name on it and make Media Matters a libertarian watchdog and it would be a conspiracy.

Moreover, Soros has used his power and influence to make himself wealthy, as documented in Do As I Say, Not As I Do.  But since he supports left-wing causes, we shouldn’t look too closely.  A similar hypocrisy applies to the think tanks.  Ones funded by the Kochs are suspicious partisan organizations; ones funded by lefties are non-partisan public interest groups.

Stoll again:

Ms. Mayer describes what she calls “the Kochs’ subsidization of a pro-corporate movement.” But a lot of Koch-backed institutions would be more accurately characterized as pro-individual or pro-small-government than as “pro-corporate.” These think thanks and professors and groups were criticizing ObamaCare when the drug companies were backing it, criticizing TARP when the investment banks were backing it, criticizing the auto bailout when GM and Chrysler were begging for it, criticizing “clean energy” subsidies when GE and Ford were begging for them.

More relevant to Ms. Mayer’s work?  The libertarians think tanks were, for the most part, massively opposed to the wars and diametrically opposed to the torture regime she so ably detailed in her book.

The core of her article is the Kochs funding of libertarian opposition to climate change legislation, an effort that supports their own energy interests.  She has a point here, but massively exaggerates it.  For example, she says the libertarians promoted Climategate:

Cato scholars have been particularly energetic in promoting the Climategate scandal. Last year, private e-mails of climate scientists at the University of East Anglia, in England, were mysteriously leaked, and their exchanges appeared to suggest a willingness to falsify data in order to buttress the idea that global warming is real. In the two weeks after the e-mails went public, one Cato scholar gave more than twenty media interviews trumpeting the alleged scandal.

This is an amazing distortion.  Cato has been mostly quiet on Climategate with the exception of the “one Cato scholar”.  And that “one Cato scholar” who gave 20 interviews is, in fact, Patrick Michaels, who was specifically mentioned and derided in the leaked e-mails.  Michaels has not asked for anonymity.  The only reason to leave that piece of information out is to make it seem more dark and mysterious than it is.  And Michaels, incidentally, disputes the severity of global warming, not its existence.  Additionally, the chief climate commenter at another evil Koch-supported libertarian think tank—Reason—also accepts the reality of global warming.  However, both think tanks dispute statist solutions to global warming and do not accept the disaster scenarios peddled by Algore.  So that makes them Evil Climate Deniers.

The final onion in the ointment of Mayer’s thesis?  Has all this vile corporate money worked to stop the growth of government?  We have had a decade of unrestrained government growth in every direction, under both Republican and Democratic leadership, that has brought us to the brink of financial ruin.  If the Kochs’ support of libertarian causes is undermining our Republic, it’s doing an awfully subtle job of it.

Anyway, read both her article and Stoll’s response.  Mayer’s book on torture was well-documented and included first-hand non-anonymous interviews with most of the principals.  It was very convincing.  This?  It’s a thinking man’s Shock Doctrine.  I’m not overly enamored of the Kochs, who have run afoul of environmental regulations, among other things, and used their influence to reduce their responsibility.  I’m under no illusion that their motives for funding libertarians ideas are pure as driven snow.  But that could be said of anyone who funds political interests.  if you’re going to disagree with the thinks tanks, dispute their ideas.  Don’t try some nebulous one-sided guilt by association bullshit.

The numbers don’t add up…

I just got back from a week of vacation where I played US government - I spent way too much money on feel good stuff that yield no actual benefits - and am now because of the time off, busier than a one legged man at an arse kicking contest now at work. But I felt I had to address something that came up during a conversation I had, with a bunch of obvious liberal morons defending the disastrous collectivist policies of the last decade that have reached new limits under demcorat and Obama control, when they blamed Bush and the Iraqi war for anything from $3-$5 trillion in deficits spending. The numbers widely varied apparently even for them, but I was stumped as to why they would be pulling these ridiculous numbers up until I realized the left still wants to make believe that the deficit spending is because of the Iraq wars and defense spending, and not because of the massive growth in wasteful collectivist spending by government.

Pelosi Bungles The First

You know, I’m sort of going to miss Nancy Pelosi after November.  She can always be relied on to say something really dumb:

Nancy Pelosi kicked off a bit of controversy on the right this morning when the news broke that she had told a local San Francisco radio station that she agreed with those calling for a look at how the groups opposing the “Ground Zero mosque” are being funded.

It was a bit unclear what she was referring to, and now her office sends over a statement from her clarifying what she meant and sort of standing by what she said:

“The freedom of religion is a Constitutional right. Where a place of worship is located is a local decision.

“I support the statement made by the Interfaith Alliance that ‘We agree with the ADL that there is a need for transparency about who is funding the effort to build this Islamic center. At the same time, we should also ask who is funding the attacks against the construction of the center.’

Contrary to the paranoid rantings of some, I don’t think Nancy Pelosi is about to institute the thought police in this country.  She’s simply being her usual idiotic self.  She can’t say that people shouldn’t be allowed to object to the mosque so she falls back on the “follow the money” line.  Ironically, that’s even more idiotic since the most of this is being stirred up by talk radio and the blogosphere.  So there’s not much money to follow.

Still, how does the Speaker of the House say something like this and not know that her critics are going to be all over it?  This woman makes Dan Quayle sound like Demosthenes.

That $26 billion donkey election time pay-off is backfiring already

That $26.1 billion payout by congress which contained a hefty $10 billion to help pay off the help of the teachers unions on behalf of demcorats right before the 2010 mid-term elections, has now come under fire, because some $12.1 billion of that money is coming from a cut in the food-stamp program. So the donkeys, because they know they need to hide their out of control spending, have literally screwed over the little people - some 41 million Americans are on this program if you believe the story - in order to pay of one of their super special interest groups. Of course, republicans are the evil ones, because according to the Lame Stream Media, they are the only ones for sale and demcorats are the party of the little people.

Heh, how are the little people feeling now that they are going to get less aid so the demcorats can pay off a political debt? How do the idiots that continue to pretend that the demcorats are the party of the little people feel, as we keep finding out more and more stories like this - not because of the Lame Stream Media for sure, I should add - and clearly see the collectivist demcorats are far, far worse than anything they have accused the other side of being? How does that saying about friends like these making enemies unnecessary go again? Party of the little people, indeed.

Yeah, I am rubbing it in…

One of the more interesting stories to go on this week, and obviously completely ignored or misreported on by the Lame Stream Media, is the story of Omar Khadr, a terrorist that was captured in Afghanistan at the age of 15, and whom had murdered a US Special Forces servicemen with a grenade, amongst other things. This kid, now 23, was a media darling, and even juicier, one of the many cases of “inhumane treatment and torture” the left accused the Bush Administration and our servicemen of being involved with at Gitmo. Even now they are haranguing the Obama administration for the fact this poor an innocent torture victim ended up in a military tribunal!

Yep, this week Omar Khadr’s trial, a military one and not the much promised civilian ones from the campaign trail, started. Funny that. Evil Bush was demonized for holding military tribunals and the evils of Gitmo. Obama ran and won on evil Bush, and especially the wars we were fighting in 2008, and yet today we have Obama not just continuing those, but expanding them. Oh yeah, before the usual libtard brings it up, let me point out that you should not be fooled by the claims Obama is pulling troops out of Iraq. First off, this isn’t Obama’s doing because his pullout was part of the Bush Administration’s time table, and we are leaving some 50K troops behind. And we all know Obama, to his credit, has stepped stuff up in Afghanistan. Even more telling is the fact that Gitmo is still open and in business. Guess being a bunch of holier-than-thou leftist twits that accused the Bush Administration of being an evil bunch of torturers that only concocted Club Gitmo to avoid scrutiny and be able to torture at their leisure and demanded/promised its closure, completely ignoring the reality on the ground, suddenly isn’t so easy when you have to deal with the problems, huh libtards?

And now that we are on the subject of Gitmo and torture, let me give you a piece of information I doubt you will get from the MSM. Remember those torture charges filed by the usual scumbag lawyers – no, these lawyers aren’t just doing their jobs, they want to screw over the US and are hoping to demonize our troops and country, so they are scumbags - defending these evil bastards? Well, the attempt to use them to suppress Khadr’s confession because they were obtained through torture have they have been summarily dismissed:

The decision by army Colonel Patrick Parrish came shortly after Mr. Khadr pleaded not guilty through his Pentagon-appointed defence lawyer to the five war crimes charges he faces. The ruling is a major blow to Mr. Khadr, who claimed in a February 2008 affidavit he was abused during interrogations after his capture at the end of a 2002 firefight with U.S. soldiers in Afghanistan. The judge ruled a video apparently showing the suspect making and planting land mines is admissible, rejecting the defence argument it was obtained based on information coerced from him.

Oh the evil military judge screwed Khadr over! Well, no, because the video is damning:

In a video shown at the hearing yesterday, Mr. Khadr was seen telling Guantanamo Bay guards trying to weigh him for the International Red Cross “God will take ... revenge” on the United States. “I am here in prison, but there are millions of people outside,” he says in the May 2006 clip. “What’s happening to you is not for nothing.” In the February 2008 affidavit, Mr. Khadr, 23, alleged guards mistreated him during the weighing session, claiming they “pressed on my pressure points.”

The clip appears to show the guards acting with restraint as they push him toward the scale and point out all his “brothers”—a reference to other detainees—had been weighed without protest. “Come on man, it’s not that bad,” says one after Mr. Khadr claimed the treatment was a “very small example of what’s really going on” at the facility. “We’re not doing this to hurt you, torture you,” adds another, amid explanations his weight was needed for his health records. Although Mr. Khadr spent about 20 minutes resisting the guards, the tape hinted he had been playing to the camera as he switched from the English he used to speak to the guards to Arabic to speak to fellow detainees in nearby cells.

So the “torture” these libtard accused our troops of committing under direction from evil Bush? Yeah, weighing this bastard - while he was threatening our troops with murder and our country with destruction - so we can have accurate medical records to please the libturds that will try to turn everything and anything into an argument about the evils of America and its military.

And surprise, surprise! This bastard is obviously been coached on how to play to the camera to help the libturds do the dirty job of helping the Jihadists and their cause. Don’t expect the left to admit they where used – my take is that it is more complicity than used despite the claims from the lot of them to the contrary – yet again, and that the facts bear out quite a different narrative than the rampant torture stories we constantly are subjected to by them, though.

What’s the odds we are going to continue to hear from the usual suspects that they are ignoring the torture or white washing it – and even more important that it is happening under Obama’s reign (are we no longer an evil empire?) – going forward, despite yet more evidence there was no torture, and that these people will rethink their stance on Gitmo or the Bush Administration’s efforts to fight a vile and evil murderous bunch? Yeah, I know. Zilch.

Rangel the crook blames.. wait for it…

The GOP for his woes! Sure, Charlie. It wasn’t you know, the fact that you are a crook that has you in hot water, it was them evil republicans and their lack of support in cutting you a deal. I guess Rangel is at least smart enough to know Bush is gone, and blaming him wouldn’t fly well. So instead of blaming Bush he went for the next best thing: the GOP. Maybe he forgot that there was video to disprove his bullshit? I was fine until the evil right got me in trouble! Dang, you can’t make this stuff up.

The again, in the day and age where the Lame Stream Media is busy trying to convince us that their lame horse isn’t the first one, as even the Feds can’t lie about the effects of Obamanomics anymore, while our elite party like it was 1999, this should not come as a surprise. Heck, we even have desperate demcorats trying to rig the November elections by putting up faux Tea Party candidates to siphon votes from their oppositions. That bloodbath sure is looking like it will be fun.

My guess is Charlie is just setting up the stage so he can then still run in November, win that election because his district likes that he is a scumbag, and then hand that seat over to demcorats when he just plain resigns. After all, if he was to deal with that now, the democrats would have to worry about losing even that seat. These crooks - and by crooks I mean demcorats - do play for keeps, though. Maxine Waters, another legally challenged demcorat, was unavailable for comment. We are in great hands people. Hope & Change! I bet these elitists hate the fact they even have to put up the charade.

AGW Cultists want to tax you to pay for their scam’s survival!

This news just galls me. They got caught in a huge scam, and their answer as their cause is abandoned by sane people, is to steal more of our wealth in order to keep the machine that is intended to steal all of our wealth alive. And the energy companies and people opposed to the dogma hawked by these cultists are the ones accused of greed and nefarious motives. A pox on their house!

Just when you think they can’t do any more damage..

You hear about stuff like this. I mean, this is for now a rumor, but the scary thing is that I have no problem believing these collectivist opportunist would resort to something like this to keep power:

Main Street may be about to get its own gigantic bailout. Rumors are running wild from Washington to Wall Street that the Obama administration is about to order government-controlled lenders Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac to forgive a portion of the mortgage debt of millions of Americans who owe more than what their homes are worth. An estimated 15 million U.S. mortgages – one in five – are underwater with negative equity of some $800 billion. Recall that on Christmas Eve 2009, the Treasury Department waived a $400 billion limit on financial assistance to Fannie and Freddie, pledging unlimited help. The actual vehicle for the bailout could be the Bush-era Home Affordable Refinance Program, or HARP, a sister program to Obama’s loan modification effort. HARP was just extended through June 30, 2011.

The move, if it happens, would be a stunning political and economic bombshell less than 100 days before a midterm election in which Democrats are currently expected to suffer massive, if not historic losses. The key date to watch is August 17 when the Treasury Department holds a much-hyped meeting on the future of Fannie and Freddie.

This is not government helping people: it is government encouraging bad behavior, rewarding those that engage in it at the expense of other, and most disgusting of all, government punishing those of us that did the right thing – practically always and without exception a side effect of bullshit liberal socio-economic policies intended “to help” people - and only serves to make things worse. I seriously hope this turns out to be a stupid rumor, and that these bastards are not going to, for the umpteenth time, screw those of us that have done the right thing and lived within our means, to buy votes and reward those that did not.

Laws? What laws? It’s a scam.

Have a look at what our DoJ has basically come up with in its pursuit of cash tied to civil rights lawsuits, because it is a doozie. Check this out:

The Justice Department has found a new way to pursue civil rights lawsuits, using the powers of the Civil Rights Division not just to win compensation for victims of alleged discrimination but also to direct large sums of money to activist groups that are not discrimination victims and not connected to a particular suit.

In the past, when the Civil Rights Division filed suit against, say, a bank or a landlord, alleging discrimination in lending or rentals, the cases were often settled by the defendant paying a fine to the U.S. Treasury and agreeing to put aside a sum of money to compensate the alleged discrimination victims. There was then a search for those victims—people who were actually denied a loan or an apartment—who stood to be compensated. After everyone who could be found was paid, there was often money left over. That money was returned to the defendant.

Now, Attorney General Eric Holder and Civil Rights Division chief Thomas Perez have a new plan. Any unspent money will not go back to the defendant but will instead go to a “qualified organization” approved by the Justice Department. And if there is not enough unspent money—that will be determined by the Department—then the defendant might be required to come up with more money to give to the “qualified organization.”

So the DoJ has come up with a “neat” way to increase big government’s ability to choose who will be the winners and who will be the losers. With their attempt to fool the people into allowing them to pass another trillion dollar stimulus patronage bill to funnel tons of cash to demcocrat operatives, lobbyists, agents, donors, and causes rebuffed, something like this becomes a godsend. Especially when some of these organizations now set up to benefit from this scam have been banned from getting government funds.

It also sure looks like the Obama Justice Department has come up with a new way to circumvent the pesky way Congress, even though it is now in demcorat hands and absolutely abhorred having to do so, defunded ACORN, and can now funnel cash to whatever these various pieces of ACORN – the name changed, the mission and tactics will stay the same - are called today.

Republicans are particularly concerned that the “qualified organizations” money might end up with groups that are associated with the community organizing group formerly known as ACORN. Republican lawmakers want to avoid sending federal money to groups that Congress has deemed unsuitable to receive it.

And it doesn’t stop there. There is a whole lot more that is wrong with this whole scam.

But the concerns of Republicans, and perhaps some Democrats, go beyond ACORN and other activist groups. The new Civil Rights Division tactic represents a departure from a fundamental principle of such cases, which is the pursuit of justice on behalf of actual victims. “If the Department of Justice recovers funds for alleged civil rights violations, the money should go to compensate victims or to the Treasury,” says Bob Driscoll, who was a top official in the Civil Rights Division during the first two years of the George W. Bush administration.

My bet is that the victims, real or imagined, will soon not be getting any money, as this new DoJ scam will end up just funneling as much as it can to the usual scumbags. And Bush was the one they said was running and illegal fascist government. Go figure. That’s “Hope & Change” for you in the age of Obama.
