It’s 9pm California time, and I’m on my way home from work.  I don’t know if my internet access is going to be on when I get there.  If there are no new posts from me tonight, that’s why.

Here’s what I would do if I was the GOP.  I would immediately cut this into a spot, and get it out nationally on all the networks.  Say, “This is John Kerry, one of the leaders of the Democrat Party.  This is what he thinks of our troops.” Run the quote.  “This is the type of person who will be running the country if the Democrats seize power in Congress.  Note the contempt for our men and women in uniform.  In the times we live in, can you really trust the party of John Kerry…” (run clip again) “… to lead our military?”

A dirty trick, but an effective and accurate one.  For all Bush’s numerous faults, this is why I didn’t vote Democrat in 2004.  John Kerry is a vile, disgusting man.

Sorry for the lack of posting.  I woke up this morning and my internet access was down.  Why?  Because we recently switched from Comcast to Time Warner.  I was with Comcast for two years and their service couldn’t have been better.  I’ve been with Time Warner for three weeks now, and my internet has gone down more than a drunk prom date.  It’s driving me insane.

So now I’m at work, and I’m in meetings all morning.  I’ll post as soon as I get a chance to read the news.

If, as expected, the GOP loses its ass in the elections, they’ll have nobody to blame but themselves.  Why?  For abandoning true conservatism.

A quarter century after the Reagan revolution and a dozen years after Republicans vaulted into control of Congress, a new CNN poll finds most Americans still agree with the bedrock conservative premise that, as the Gipper put it, “government is not the answer to our problems—government is the problem.”

The poll released Friday also showed that an overwhelming majority of Americans perceive, correctly, that the size and cost of government have gone up in the past four years, when Republicans have had a grip on the House of Representatives, the Senate and the White House.

Discretionary spending grew from $649 billion in fiscal year 2001 to $968 billion in fiscal year 2005, an increase of $319 billion, according to the Congressional Budget Office.

Queried about their views on the role of government, 54 percent of the 1,013 adults polled said they thought it was trying to do too many things that should be left to individuals and businesses. Only 37 percent said they thought the government should do more to solve the country’s problems.

Americans had a slightly different perspective when it came to the specific issue of promoting traditional values. A slight majority—51 percent—said they thought that was an appropriate activity for government, while 43 percent said it should not favor any particular set of values.

The sampling error for the questions in the poll, conducted for CNN by Opinion Research Corporation, was plus or minus 3 percentage points.

Here’s the deal.  Americans, as a group, are fiscally conservative and socially libertarian.  You know, like the GOP used to be.  Now they’re fiscally liberal and socially conservative. And (gasp!) the people are probably going to throw them out on their corrupt asses.

A huge GOP loss in 2006 would be the best possible thing for 2008.  Let the party slink away in disgrace, lick its wounds, and figure out exactly what the hell it means to be a conservative again.  How do you appeal to the majority of Americans?

Weakened by the unpopular Iraq war, President George W. Bush accused Democrats of lacking a plan to win it on Monday as he opened a weeklong drive to try to keep Republicans in control of the U.S. Congress.

“The Democratic goal is to get out of Iraq. The Republican goal is to win in Iraq,” Bush told a rousing rally in a gymnasium at Georgia Southern University.

Okay, in general terms he’s right here.  For the most part Democrats don’t care about winning or security, they care about pacifying their big money donors who want the US out of Iraq immediately.  However…

“If you listen carefully for a Democrat plan for success, they don’t have one. Iraq is the central front in the war on terror, yet they don’t have a plan for victory,” he said.

That’s right, folks.  The man whose administration has fought one of the most incompetently planned and executed wars in American history is accusing the opposition of not having a plan.  So, I guess the choice is between the party with no plan and the party with a plan which doesn’t work.

Randall “Duke” Cunningham isn’t adapting to well to life in PMITA prison.

In a handwritten letter to the reporter who exposed his corruption, former Rep. Randy “Duke” Cunningham portrays life in prison as an agonizing time of regret, anger and bitterness toward those he blames for his downfall.

“I hurt more than anyone could imagine,” Cunningham wrote from federal prison in North Carolina.

In the letter, the former Rancho Santa Fe Republican lashes out at the The San Diego Union-Tribune, which broke the story on June 12, 2005, but aims his sharpest barbs at one of his co-conspirators.

… In the response penned last month, Cunningham expressed bitterness toward Stern and Wade. And he offered an achingly personal glimpse of the toll exacted on him and his relationship with his now-estranged family by his dramatic descent from congressional power to Inmate #94405198.

“Each time you print it hurts my family and now I have lost them along with everything I have worked for during my 64 years of life,” he wrote. “I am human not an animal to keep whipping.”

You are human, but you are also a corrupt scumbag and a convicted felon, and therefore you deserve everything you get.  It could be worse.  You could be off somewhere being tortured.

Not satisfied with remove every vestige of religion from the classroom, the PC left has now gotten it removed from the church.

The College of William & Mary has removed the cross from the altar in its chapel in response to the structure’s frequent use for nonreligious events.

William & Mary President Gene Nichol released a statement to the college community saying that he has “not banished the cross from the Wren Chapel. The Chapel ... is used for religious ceremonies by members of all faiths. The cross will remain in the Chapel and be displayed on the altar at appropriate religious services.”

However, Nichol continued that “the Chapel is also used frequently for College events that are secular in nature—and should be open to students and staff of all beliefs” and “must be welcoming to all.”

Hmmm.  It seems to me that if your group chooses to utilize a chapel for an event, there is a tacit understanding that there will probably be a few crosses or other religious symbols laying around.  Rather than simply make students understand that this is a chapel and thus has a religious purpose, the PC solution is to remove all the religion from the chapel.

I blogged on this story once before, but it got lost in the server crash.  At any rate, remember that story about the pedophile inmate who got his forehead tattooed?  It turns out that the instrument of vengeance was a relative.

An inmate accused of forcibly tattooing a slain 10-year-old girl’s name onto her killer’s forehead in an Indiana prison was the victim’s cousin, a family friend said.

Jared Harris, 22, is a cousin of Katlyn “Katie” Collman, family friend and spokesman Terry Gray confirmed to The Republic newspaper. He said he did not believe they knew each other well.

Harris, 22, who is serving time on a burglary conviction at Wabash Valley state prison in Carlisle, has been charged with battery and is accused of tattooing “KATIE’S REVENGE” across Anthony Ray Stockelman’s forehead.

Harris told prison officials the attack was in revenge, according to an affidavit.

Stockelman is serving a life sentence after pleading guilty to abducting, molesting and killing the fourth-grader, who lived about 70 miles south of Indianapolis. She was missing for five days before her body was found Jan. 30, 2005, in a creek about 15 miles from her home.

The affidavit said that prison officials transferred Harris to the same prison wing as Stockelman on Sept. 19, three days before the attack, and that Harris subsequently threatened Stockelman’s life several times.

Harris slipped into the open cell Stockelman shared with another prisoner on Sept. 22 and, when Stockelman returned, Harris closed the locking cell door, according to the affidavit.

Stockelman told investigators that Harris put his right hand around his throat and told him, “I’m either gonna stick you and leave you bleeding or I’m gonna tattoo you.” After applying the tattoo using a makeshift tattoo gun, Harris discarded the device in a trash can, he told investigators.

You’ll have to forgive me for not shedding a tear.

Two days ago I wrote this post about Macaca Allen’s attempt to smear Jim Webb by taking snippets from books he has written and purporting that they somehow speak to his character.  In the comments to that post, Dirk Steele wrote the following.

So you think it’s a good thing that people take a book written by one of the canidates out of context, when contemplating if they should vote for him? How can you defend this blatant smear tactic?

This would be like claiming Arnold thinks about killing women by playing that scene in Total Recall when he shot Sharon Stone in the head.

It’s quite ironic that Dirk used Arnold Schwarzenegger as his example, because something very similar happened back in 2003.  I documented it in a post called The Dirtiest of Tricks.  Just a little over three years ago we had the recall election here in California which put Arnie in office.  Since he was the favorite to win, the left wing groups pulled out all the stops in their advertising.  One of those groups was the überlefties at MoveOn, whose commercial started out with shots of various women, and then presents a quote from Arnold purporting to show just how callous he is towards them.  Here’s the quote.

“How many times do you get away with this—to take a woman, grab her upside-down, and smash her face into a toilet bowl.”

Here was my commentary at the time.

Note the fine print at the bottom of the quote:  referring to Terminator 3.  If you haven’t seen the movie, there is a scene in a bathroom where Arnie’s Terminator character fights the female TX.  During the fight he grabs the TX, flips her upside down, and smashes her head into a toilet.

Can you believe this crap?  He is discussing a scene from a movie, and the scumbags at MoveOn are insinuating that this is how he feels about women.

Simply pathetic.  The left hasn’t been able to stop Arnie through legitimate means, so they wait until the week before the election to start their smear campaign (with the help of their fellow liberals in the California media).  Then MoveOn, the night before the election, pulls this stunt.

No matter what your political leanings, to totally defame a candidate in this manner, when they have no chance to respond before the election, is disgusting and immoral.

Note that I objected to the tactic itself, not the fact that this tactic was used by a liberal group.  Now that James Webb is being smeared in more or less exactly the same manner, I object to it as well.  Just like Arnie’s words describing a scene in Terminator III have nothing to do with his ability to govern, these out-of-context snippets from Webb’s books are completely immaterial to the character of the person who wrote them.

Now, here’s the interesting thing.  This 2003 post was one of the first from this blog to get a lot of really big blogosphere-wide attention.  It was linked to by countless websites, including Andrew Sullivan, National Review, and Lucianne Goldberg.  A quick perusal of The Corner for the word “webb” shows that, by and large, most people on that site support the use of the Webb quotes by the Allen campaign. 

Strange isn’t it.  I have this idea that when I criticize the left for doing something, then the right does the same thing, I should also criticize the right.  But I’m kooky like that.

It looks like the GOP doesn’t have any problem taking money from teh gheys, they just have a problem treating them like people.

Last week, you’ll remember, the RNC, headed by Ken Mehlman, was running that race-baiting ‘bimbo’ ad against Rep. Harold Ford (D) down in Tennessee. One of the barbs in that ad was the claim that Ford had taken political contributions from “porn movie producers.”

But it seems there is plenty of porn movie producer money to go around.

It turns out that the Republican National Committee is a regular recipient of political contributions from Nicholas T. Boyias, the owner and CEO of Marina Pacific Distributors, one of the largest producers and distributors of gay porn in the United States. This recent article on Marina Pacific’s new marketing campaign form XBiz, a porn industry trade sheet, notes that, in addition to producing its own material, the “company acts as a distribution house to hundreds of lines, mostly gay, 40 of which can be purchased only through MPD.”

The company actually seems to be a trendsetter in the industry. As Boyias recently noted, “We have always modeled ourselves after a Fortune-style company. They are the models of exceptional customer service. We have formed strategic alliances with our vendors and customers alike, offering them tools and marketing to assist them in succeeding with their business models. Our one-on-one interpersonal relationships have never been duplicated in the distribution industry.”

Some recent releases include “Fire in the Hole”, “Flesh and Boners”, even a “Velvet Mafia” series.

Taking money from the queers?  Why, next you’ll be telling me that they were more interested in rewarding their top campaign fundraisers than they were stability in Iraq.

THE secrets of Britain’s Trident nuclear deterrent are feared stolen, the Sunday Express can reveal.

It is claimed they disappeared from a high-security base in the US.

CIA and FBI agents launched an inquiry after top-secret material was found under a mattress in a caravan near the base during a drugs raid.

Security services fear the material includes details of Britain’s Trident submarine-launched missiles, as well as other nuclear weapons.

Under a pact negotiated during the Cold War, British secrets are kept at the base. The caravan was used by a known dealer who sold drugs to staff at the base in New Mexico.

Shocked agents uncovered computer drives under the mattress. These were traced to a rogue technician at the complex.

Both the woman technician and the drug dealer have been arrested.

Last night the director of the Los Alamos base, Michael Anastasio, said: “Unfortunately, my ability to discuss the details of this matter is constrained due to the nature of the situation. What I can say is that this is a serious matter, and we are taking immediate steps to address it.

“First, we are fully co-operating with the FBI and we intend to do everything possible to guard against any criminal activity.

“Second, in conjunction with the FBI, we began, and will continue, to pursue the facts surrounding this incident in order to fully assess necessary immediate and long-term actions. We have already taken a number of steps to address potential security risks.”

A Los Alamos police spokesman said: “The stolen classified documents were found during a drug raid. The woman holds a responsible position in the facility.”

That’s right, folks.  Britain’s nuclear secrets have been found under a mattress in a meth lab.  I mean, seriously, what the hell is it about Los Alamos that makes it leak like a sieve?  Why are people who associate with meth dealers allowed to have top secret clearances (or better) anyway?  Do we just hand out clearances to anyone who asks?
