When I was in the dorms, at one point I was in a large room with two other guys (we knew each other well and had requested this). One of my roommates brought a woman there once who was at least 30 who beat the shit out of all three of us at pool and drinking. If he’d brought her there again, I’d planned on talking to number 3 and saying something to number 2 about her and not being comfortable with it.

It doesn’t take being gay for there to be a problem.

Also, the way dorms are set up with being randomly assigned roommates is stupid. I don’t know about you, but the last thing I want is a gay roommate that brings over his skanky, older, shifty-looking dates and tells me to get lost while they spend the next few hours buggering each other. Now this guy gets to not only worry about his stuff being stolen, there’s the almost certain drug use going on in his room, and he has to find someplace else to study.

He should have been able to make 1 complaint that his roommate was entertaining skanky old fags and interfering with his ability to study and had a new roommate.

I think that Clementi did wrong, but I DON’T think that he’s responsible for Ravi’s suicide. Am I being unreasonable? Your reaction is weird to me. It was the same with the Zimmerman-Martin case. Why go from one extreme to another? Zimmerman was a neo-Nazi or a superhero, Martin was a gang-banger or a saint. All depending on politics, it seems. Isn’t all this ridiculous?

Seems to me that Celementi got a pretty fair deal from the justice system. The court of public opinion is another matter, though. I don’t like media reporting names before convictions. I’m not a huge fan of media reporting names after convictions either, but that’s just crazy talk, I know…

One thing, and one thing only, ever stops a bully: consequences

To start with, lot’s of bullies find what they’re doing as quite enjoyable and/or frequently think the victim has “earned” it – “talking” to them isn’t any motivation to quit doing it. Making them bleed for their efforts, however, will provide plenty of reasons for it to to “not be worth the trouble”….

Putting up a camera is exactly something a bully would do. Someone fearing for his life, his future, his sanity, his family, love and the human race, would have talked to the guy.

No, someone being bullied knows better than to think that talking about it will do anything. Besides, do you really think that the straight student complaining about a gay student is going to get any help from the university? He would’ve been told that he was a hateful paranoid homophobe, and that he had no basis to judge his roommate or anyone he brought home. Bullies physically, verbally, emotionally, etc harass other people – making sure that his roommate’s sketchy boyfriend isn’t stealing shit doesn’t qualify.

Trust me on this one, I’ve been bullied – this isn’t even in the same category.

Or, he could have beaten the crap out of the guy. If I felt abused I might have just done that. But I would have deserved the punishment when I got it. Not for the suicide, but for the beating. Had I chosen another route, like say putting up a camera. I would have deserved punishment for such a dick move.
