  • We’ll Take That

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: thank God for the IJ:

Imagine you own a million-dollar piece of property free and clear, but then the federal government and local law enforcement agents announce that they are going to take it from you, not compensate you one dime, and then use the money they get from selling your land to pad their budgets—all this even though you have never so much as

  • A Surplus of Law

I finally, somewhat belatedly, read Harvey Silverglate’s Three Felonies a Day. The book is a bit different from the title. It doesn’t actually argue that Americans commit three felonies a day. But it does argue that vague laws, ambitious prosecutors, regulatory complexity and the abandonment of mens rea — the principle that criminal charges should be brought only for intentional violations of the law — have created an environment in which massive swathes of … Read more

  • LSM making excuses for DOJ criminal actions

Ask yourself: how would the media have reported a Friday night dump by the Bush Administration’s DOJ basically admitting they lied to congress during an investigation involving an operation that was for lack of better words a criminal action, on foreign soil, without telling the other nation in question about the various operations that were arming some of the most brutal criminal gangs involved in a shooting war that was killing hundreds if not thousands, … Read more

  • The Collapse of Violence

The WSJ has a fantastic article today on the decline of violence in humanity. You really must read the whole thing.

Violence has been in decline for thousands of years, and today we may be living in the most peaceable era in the existence of our species.

This claim, I know, invites skepticism, incredulity, and sometimes anger. We tend to estimate the probability of an event from the ease with which we can recall

  • Fast and Furious Fallout

    Accountability, people!

The ATF has promoted three key supervisors of a controversial sting operation that allowed firearms to be illegally trafficked across the U.S. border into Mexico.

All three have been heavily criticized for pushing the program forward even as it became apparent that it was out of control. At least 2,000 guns were lost and many turned up at crime scenes in Mexico and two at the killing of a U.S. Border Patrol

  • I Want One!!

Oh great, more toys for rich bastards. You would think that after snorting coke off the stomachs of Victoria Secret models, propelling yourself from a helicopter down the alpine slopes of Gstaad, or sipping 3 fingers of Dalmore scotch as you stroll through your barn and needing to take off your shoes as you count your polo ponies, you would reach a point where you could put your hand over your cup and say “when”. … Read more

  • Work Americans Won’t Do

See, this is why I think you create a guest worker program before you kick people out of the country:

After enacting House Bill 87, a law designed to drive illegal immigrants out of Georgia, state officials appear shocked to discover that HB 87 is, well, driving a lot of illegal immigrants out of Georgia.

It might be funny if it wasn’t so sad.

Thanks to the resulting labor shortage, Georgia farmers have been forced

  • More on the ATF scandal

Seems we have had some congressional hearings going on now on the ATF’s botched gun running scandal, and people are talking. And some of the things they are pointing out make one wonder what really was behind this supposed operation. Things like Agent Dodson’s comment that:

“We were mandated to let these guns go,” Dodson said. The program began in 2009 and abruptly ended shortly after Terry’s death Dec. 15. The weapon used to
