Sue the damned beer companies and get some payback!

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — An American Indian tribe is suing some of the world’s largest beer makers, claiming they knowingly contributed to alcohol-related problems on South Dakota’s Pine Ridge Indian Reservation.

The Oglala Sioux Tribe of South Dakota filed a federal lawsuit Thursday demanding $500 million from five international beer manufacturers for the cost of health care, social services and child rehabilitation caused by chronic alcoholism

  • Pill Fight!

I believe I’ve made it clear where I stand on the whole “forcing religious charities to cover birth control in their insurance policies” issue:

    1) I am pro-choice (mostly), pro-birth control, pro-women’s rights and anti-Religious Right Nutbaggery.

    2) I think forcing insurance to cover birth control is misguided and a ridiculous intrusion into free markets.

    3) The religious issues the Catholic Church has with this mandate only increase my opposition.

The bullshit on this issue, … Read more

  • Why Bill Maher Is A Horse’s Ass

Because he’ll take a seemingly legitimate point and drop into a vat of stupidity. Here’s the clip everyone is talking about:

Buried within that stupidity is a legitimate point that the Republican leadership and a large part of the punditsphere are campaigning against a partially imaginary candidate. I’ve pointed out before that the “apology tour” stuff was bull and that Obamacare, bad as it is, was hatched in conservative circles and is to the right … Read more

  • More “green” magic!

    Check green this nonsense out:

Oil companies will pay $6.8 million in fines for not meeting federal quotas for blending in cellulosic biofuels – those produced from grasses, wood and plants – even though there weren’t enough of those biofuels available for use, the New York Times reported. Those fines are likely to rise in 2012 because the cellulosic biofuel quotas that refiners have to meet will rise more than 30 percent to 8.65 million

  • Thou Shalt Cover

As I said on Twitter, the Obama’s administration’s ridiculous fight against the ministerial exemption — a fight they lost 9-0 in the Supreme Court — suddenly make sense:

The Obama administration announced today it will wait for a year (coincidentally until after the elections) before requiring religious organizations to comply with an Obamacare mandate that they provide coverage for contraception — including controversial drugs that can abort an early pregnancy.

    This started with a

  • Obligatory Newt Debate Post

I have already seen many, many people, mostly on the left, in the media, but not limited to them only, complain about how unfair they find it that people reacted positively to Newt Gingrich slapping down the CNN reporter that started last nights Carolina Republican debate with the question about an interview done with Newt’s disgruntled ex-wife that was done by ABC, very likely to be aired post Carolina primary to function as a hit … Read more

  • It’s Bush’s fault!

In typical fashion the Obama administration has again chosen to do something that costs jobs and hurts the economy of America, and then laid the blame on others for the impact of their decisions. The geniuses that brought us such successes as Solyndra and numerous other questionable renewable energy investments which benefit them and their friends, but not the consumers, whom they have been very clear they believe should have to pay far more for … Read more

  • Dying With Your Stethoscope On

I’ve been mulling over this absolute must-read for some time:

It’s not a frequent topic of discussion, but doctors die, too. And they don’t die like the rest of us. What’s unusual about them is not how much treatment they get compared to most Americans, but how little. For all the time they spend fending off the deaths of others, they tend to be fairly serene when faced with death themselves. They know exactly what

  • Obama’s New Best Friend?

Before I get into the meat of the post, a quick question, does anyone really think Iowa means dick? All this hand ringing going on about the cataclysmic effects if Paul wins Iowa, who cares? Santorum is surging in Iowa, who cares? Bachmann won the Iowa straw poll, who cares? Huckabee won in the last go around, now he has a show on Fox, hardly a springboard for success or a momentum builder. Iowans have … Read more

  • Let All the Poisons That Lurk in the Mud Hatch Out

In probably the most foreseeable political development of the last month, the Ron Paul newsletters have moved front and center in news coverage of the Republican primary. We discussed this issue extensively four years ago and I’ll just repeat what I said then: the content of the newsletters is deplorable; I believe Ron Paul when he says he didn’t write them; but he owes the voters a much more thorough response than he has provided … Read more
