Melting Snowflakes.

Oh, the drama. All the sky is falling predictions, a nation of Chicken Littles running around with their hair on fire, the sourpusses and worrywarts, what is a lefty to do;

The left is trying to come to grips with its utter rejection, and its response to Donald Trump will be to fall back on an endless series of freakoutrages – hyperbolic, unhinged, hack media-fueled spasms of faux moral panic every time he dares do anything.

Appoint someone to a job? Freak out – it’s an outrage!

Go to dinner? Freak out – it’s an outrage!

Actually keep promises made to the voters? Freak out – it’s an outrage!

Funny and sad all at the same time.

But it is worse than that. NBA teams refusing to stay at Trump owned hotels (where they have always stayed), the NBA pulling the allstar game out of North Carolina because the folks their just don’t cotton to male perverts being allowed access to girls rest rooms and showers, Paris designers wanting to Boycott Melania Trump (like she really needs your rags), the first foreign born first lady, wicked smart, speaks 5 languages.

Most of the possible appointees so far I know a bit about, but whenever a name pops up and the kneejerk erectus vomitus starts with the left, the level of their outrage in directly proportional to my approval of the pick, making them howl and bark at the moon, a welcome side effect for sure.

I guess they never read the story of the boy that cried wolf, or learned from the race baiters that screamed ,”Racist”, when ever the win blew. When everything is a catastrophe, or everything is racist, nobody listened to you, you have zero credibility, go bother some one else.

Could it be that they just need a dictionary to know what words actually mean? An all black cast of a dopey play lecturing someone about diversity, I know, right? BTW, how many labor laws did they violate with their blatantly discriminating casting call of “non whites only”, but some how it is “political” so we will all look the other way.

All this carping and gnashing of teeth over possible cabinet appointees, how memories can shorten when you will it so. Let’s take a stroll down Obama Lane; Tim Geithner, Janet Napolitano, Eric Holder, Hilda Solis, Shaun Donovan, a virtual who’s who of incompetence and partisanship. But let’s all hyperventilate over Sessions or Flynn or Mattis.

I keep hoping that sanity will prevail, that after the requisite temper tantrums, a certain level of resolve and acceptance will take over, that the process is what it is, must be respected and honored.

For as ever long as this blog is viable, I will be critical (when warranted) of Trump and watch him like a hawk, but braying at shadows, won’t work, sorry.

  1. … fall back on an endless series of freakoutrages – hyperbolic, unhinged, hack media-fueled spasms of faux moral panic every time he dares do anything.
Appoint someone to a job? Freak out – it’s an outrage!

Yes, yes! And here’s one great example of this: Chief Judge Merrick Garland!
    Wait… what?

  2. So much going on – and I’ve been pretty busy, so here’s a quick round up of what this whiny liberal thinks of the various incidents over the past couple of days. Just so it’s on the record…

Hamilton Booing – firstly I don’t weep for Pence. If Hillary had gone to a gun show, I’d expect the exact same thing. Campaigns have consequences. One thing I will say is that Steve Bannan will have been rubbing his hands at this. There’s little he could have chosen that’s more emblematic of east coast elite liberals than a sold out performance of Hamilton.

Ditching the press to go for a steak – again, not a big deal in itself, but a break from the traditional responsibilities the President (elect) has with the press that might signal something more worrying.

Trump University – this is annoying, because it’s the guy from the other side getting away with fraud. He played the system. Dammit.

Nigel Farage – please don’t label him the leader of the opposition in the UK. He’s an opportunist – this nationalist rhetoric he’s using now is very new. He also fucking hated the US until a few months ago….

CEO emails – very stupid people doing stupid things. You can argue the semantics and legalities – but you’ve got to be a leader.

The Blind Trust problem – this has been something the left has been going on about for a while. And it is really worrying. Maybe Trump isn’t in this just to enrich himself, but the fact that decisions could be swayed (even subconsciously) by what benefits the Trump brand is problematic. What happens if Trump needs to make a decision that will benefit the US at large – but is also good for his brand? How is that going to work? Then again, I’m not sure what the solution is. Liquidate? Not going to happen.

(By the way, if I was one of the few remaining Democrats right now, I’d be drafting an ethics bill, which would tie Trump and his agenda up for a loooong time. You heard it here first…)

Bannan and the Alt-Right – This is worrying. I don’t care about the semantics of whether Bannan himself wears a hood or not – white nationalists represent a large part of his power base, and he’s probably going to cater to that. (Think Democrats beholden to the teachers unions)  I’ve been blogging with you guys on the right for over ten years – please don’t get associated with these folks.

I get that when you hear him talk about Mexicans “They’re bringing crime, they’re rapists” you hear – “Yeah we should tighten border controls to ensure we’re not bringing any criminals into the country. The alt right hears “Yes! I knew it! Those Mexicans are rapists.” I get it that you don’t think every single Muslim person is a terrorist, but the Alt Right do. Check out 8Chan and the reddit boards – it is fucking terrifying, and I know they don’t represent what the right wing people here think. But they’ve got a seat at the table, and if you’re not careful, they’ll take this win for conservatism, and turn it into a win for white nationalism. And there’s that third party we’ve all been clamouring for. So maybe some of the reports of attacks are faked. Possibly. But I can tell you that my friend Dave from Seattle wasn’t lying about the abuse he’s been getting. If it’s happening to Trump supporters, that’s bad too.

  3. This is worrying. I don’t care about the semantics of whether Bannan himself wears a hood or not – white nationalists represent a large part of his power base, and he’s probably going to cater to that.

You made this point much better than I did.

  4. Seems that Trump is not content just to be choosing new staff for his team, but widening his ambition.

Stogy: Did you hear that Trump has just suggested to Theresa May that Farage be the new ambassador to the US, despite the fact that they already have an ambassador?

Mrs Stogy: Oh my God! But how would they even know that?

    Stogy: He just tweeted it.

    Thumb up 1

  5. I get that when you hear him talk about Mexicans “They’re bringing crime, they’re rapists” you hear – “Yeah we should tighten border controls to ensure we’re not bringing any criminals into the country. The alt right hears “Yes! I knew it! Those Mexicans are rapists.”

    What Trump actually said:

When Mexico sends its people, they’re not sending their best. They’re not sending you. They’re not sending you. They’re sending people that have lots of problems, and they’re bringing those problems with us. They’re bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists. And some, I assume, are good people.

You will insist that that is racist.  It ain’t, because he ain’t talking about “Mexicans”.  It may or may not be factually correct, but what Trump is claiming is that Mexico is sending over primarily the criminal element, not the scholarly one.  He’s saying that the criminal element has lots of problems, crime, drugs, and yes, some of them may be good people, but they’re still the criminal element.   So again, he ain’t talking about all Mexicans

But that doesn’t matter, because David Duke, and White Nationalism, and Nazis. You guys steadfastly refuse to learn.

But they’ve got a seat at the table…..

How do you know?  According to this guy, there are about 50,000 people who identify as the “alt-right”.  That’s about 0.02% of the US population — you seriously think anyone is “catering” to such a minuscule group?

    Thumb up 0

  6. Unless you can show that Trump’s claim is factually incorrect, and that the particular facts you cherry-pick and cling to are relevant, you really don’t have a case.

    Thumb up 0

  7. Hamilton Booing

If Obama went to a play and got booed and then lectured by a cast member, we’d never hear the end of how inappropriate, hateful and racist it was.  The MSM would beat on it for at least a week.  So kindly give it a rest, lefties.

    Thumb up 0

  8. Unless you can show that Trump’s claim is factually incorrect, and that the particular facts you cherry-pick and cling to are relevant, you really don’t have a case.

What does it matter? They’re not actually even “sending their people”. And he’s making the claim, so it’s up to him (or people defending his comments) to support it. Also, you’re responding to “The alt right hears “Yes! I knew it! Those Mexicans are rapists.”, but can you can show this is factually incorrect?

Besides, it really didn’t seem to matter when Obama was President, so your “no longer” qualifier is meaningless.

I think it did matter, whether you like it or not. I think the ‘Obama lied about everything too’ narrative is just something that Trump supporters now require.

it’s not the left making it an issue. It’s the President Elect.

Yep, I’ve heard WAY more from the right on this, including Trump himself.

    Thumb up 0

  9. What does it matter?

    It doesn’t.

And he’s making the claim, so it’s up to him (or people defending his comments) to support it.

The only thing I’m defending is that it wasn’t a sweeping statement about all “Mexicans” as cress’ post implied, but only those entering illegally.    I was’t defending the truth of the statement, which is why I said it may or may not be factually correct.  That wasn’t my focus.

    Also, you’re responding to…..

    What I’m responding to is:

I get that when you hear him talk about Mexicans …..

Again, the implication is that Trump is talking about all Mexicans, not just the illegal alien ones.  That is what I am responding to and that is what I am correcting.  I am not addressing whether it’s factually true.

    Thumb up 0

  10. it’s not the left making it an issue. It’s the President Elect.

Trump sent out a couple of Tweets, and the left won’t shut up about it.

Yep, I’ve heard WAY more from the right on this, including Trump himself.

    But of course…..
