Don’t Get Distracted

The current spat over Pence’s attendance to Hamilton is a perfect Trump distraction. In the last few days, two stories have broken that are more important.

First, Trump settled the Trump University lawsuits for $25 million. There’s no admission of guilt, which is standard for settlements.

Second, there are indications that Trump will not, in fact, put his assets in a blind trust but will enrich himself as much as possible from his presidency. Trump has said he will forgo a salary. But diplomats are lining up to get rooms at the Trump hotel. When foreigners donated money to Clinton’s Foundation to get an audience with her, we called it corruption. What do you call this?

(This is aside from some of his appointments, which have included some troubling names, to say the least.)

Let’s not get distracted by Trump’s twitter tantrums. There’s already a lot going on here. Some of it matters; some of it doesn’t. Let’s stay focused.

Crap. I’ve been mostly offline for the last day and just saw Vox wrote the same thing. Ugh. I feel so dirty now. I need to go cry in my safe space.

I agree with you, Hal, but before addressing that, what do you make of all the bellyaching about Ivanka sitting in on the Shinzo Abe meeting?

Isn’t it great the left has finally added some new words to their vocabulary; ethics, conflict of interest, impropriety? With the stuff Hillary pulled with her charity and her position as Sec. of State, and all the silence from the left, to see them finally getting it, to come to table and admit that heads of state need to be watched, it warms the cockles of my heart.

The WSJ has published a number of articles on this, they have always been consistent in the need to watchdog these folks, here is the latest.

Not only with his assets but his kids. Most presidents have dealt with this by using blind trusts. This probably won’t work with Trump because blind trusts usually involve liquid assets (stocks, bonds, currency), Trump owns buildings, real estate, even some overseas, and these have to be manged. And although his kids will not be part of the administration officially,  they  are actively involved in the business and have his ear. Trump needs to divest himself of all his businesses and insulate himself from even the appearance of impropriety, this will not be easy. But he still has time, prides himself in the conglomerate of smart attorneys he has at his disposal and has the MSM (and honest brokers like the journal) to keep him honest in doing this before getting in the WH.

Regarding the settlement, this is a non issue. Settlements do not reveal quilt and this one would surely be a distraction for Trump going forward. Having been involved in a few with the California AG’s office, it is routine to offer victims compensation even when no guilt is present. No doubt Trump’s lawyer’s advice was to get this behind him immediately and I bet that if he lost the election, the lawsuit would have played out.

Says the guy who had a massive issue with the type of private party Michelle Obama threw.

Regarding the settlement, this is a non issue.

Naturally. It’s like it never even happened. Shove it down the memory hole. Son ow he’s only got 74 pending (non-issue for sure) lawsuits left.

In trying to get past all the bellyaching and partisan to-and-froing, can I be the first to just say, from the left – yep. We’re on board with this. On your side. Consider your cockles warmed :-)

Meh.  Didn’t seem like a big deal.  Crossed me as lefties looking for a reason to bitch about something.

    Something that might matter:

A petition on change.org is asking the Electoral College Electors to break faith with the voters, and elect Hillary Clinton instead of Donald Trump on December 19.  The petition currently has more than 4 million signatures.

If you are concerned about that, you can sign an opposing petition, that asks the Electors to keep faith with the voters:

Thanks, Cress, it was  a cold rainy day in the Bay Area today so I’ll take any warmth I can get. It might bother some that there will be twice as many eyes on Trump as there was on Obama, but that is fine with me, these politician critters need to be kept on a short leash.

Well you’re making a terrible start there then Rich – abusing those who are genuinely afraid of what it means for them and ignoring the massive surge in hate crimes against those same groups. And getting your panties all in a bunch about what happened at a play.

I’m curious if the Trump supporters who are suffering assaults and abuse matter? Or are they just getting what they deserve?

If you have to ask you need a good beating yourself Jimbo!

BTW, I am already feeling fucking dirty. The only benefit of a President Trump for me is and remains that it means that corrupt and evil beast Hillary was kept away from power. That and the salty tears, which I have to admit are a vise of mine.

The absolutely unhinged and insane reaction from the lefty idiots has forced me to come to the defense of Trump, like they did with that asshat Boosh, and it feels draining. Unfortunately their double standards and their double takes on reality can not be left unchallenged, and I find myself yet again having to champion someone I have very little vested in simply because the left is owned and run by a bunch of lying and stupid fucks.

Damn, people STILL don’t know when to use “then” vs. “than”.  It should be “THEN everyone in the store starts crying…..”

We’re becoming more illiterate with each passing second…..
