Trump Grabs the GOP By The …

Oh, good grief:

Donald Trump bragged in vulgar terms about kissing, groping and trying to have sex with women during a 2005 conversation caught on a hot microphone, saying that “when you’re a star, they let you do it,” according to a video obtained by The Washington Post.

Late Friday night, following sharp criticism by Republican leaders, Trump issued a short video statement saying, “I said it, I was wrong, and I apologize.” But he also called the revelation “a distraction from the issues we are facing today.” He said that his “foolish” words are much different than the words and actions of Bill Clinton, whom he accused of abusing women, and Hillary Clinton, whom he accused of having “bullied, attacked, shamed and intimidated his victims.”

“I’ve never said I’m a perfect person, nor pretended to be someone that I’m not. I’ve said and done things I regret, and the words released today on this more than a decade-old video are one of them. Anyone who knows me knows these words don’t reflect who I am,” Trump said.

In an apparent response to Republican critics asking him to drop out of the race, he said: “We will discuss this more in the coming days. See you at the debate on Sunday.”

You can click through for the video. It includes Trump bragging about trying to get together with a married woman (months after his third marriage), saying he can’t resist kissing hot woman and bragging that, as as celebrity, he can just “grab them by the pussy” and they don’t mind.

Now you could possible dismiss this as a dirty man talking shit with a younger man. His tone is certainly bantering in the audio. But, as Robby Soave points out, there’s a history here:

Some people might be tempted to write off Trump’s comments to Bush as empty boasts. They would be utter fools to do so. The New York Times, in fact, has just run an interview with a woman who says she was given the Trump treatment by the reality TV star. This is not an isolated incident: there is ample evidence that Trump has physically harmed women. And he has now admitted on tape that he feels license to mistreat them.

To be absolutely clear: there is nothing ambiguous about Trump’s stated (and demonstrated) approach to women: it’s battery, at a minimum.

Trump would be a dangerous enough human being if he were just a regular celebrity with a penchant for groping women. As it so happens, he might also become the next leader of the free world—a position he is manifestly unqualified to hold.

Soave is hardly a hysteric. He has done yeoman’s work deflating the campus rape hysteria and shining the light on injustice in campus kangaroo courts. He’s gotten it right again. The words might not hit you, but when you combine the words with Trump’s past behavior, they do not bode well for someone a few points away from being the most powerful person on Earth.

(Trump and his defenders are trying to deflect this onto Clinton, who has been accused of sexual assault and rape. But Clinton being a scumbag is not a defense of Trump being one too. I’ll agree that it’s hypocritical of people who overlooked Clinton’s misdeeds and Jack Kennedy’s misdeeds and Ted Kennedy’s homicide to suddenly clutch their pearls. But adding to that hypocrisy by defending Trump does not help.)

This is precisely what people like me have been warning about for the last 15 months. Every time Trump made a gaffe or said something idiotic, we complained. It wasn’t because of a devotion to political correctness. It was because these comments — on John McCain, on Clinton, on Mexicans, on the Khan family, on everything — betrayed a man who can’t control his mouth; who lacks basic decency and empathy. We knew it could get a lot worse.

And here’s the scary thing: it’s only October 7. We’re barely into the season for October surprises. So if this is what’s coming out now, imagine what we’re going to get later. It’s going to get even worse. It’s going to get a lot worse.

Several prominent Republicans, including the Governor of Utah, have withdrawn their support and asked Trump to step down. I am very dubious that this will happen. I also doubt that the GOP would stage a coup at the stage since it would split the party (and would be very hard to pull off. So while a last-minute Pence candidacy is tempting, I don’t think it’s going to happen. No, I think they’re stuck riding this train right off the cliff.

There’s always a possibility of more coming out with Clinton (there’s always more with the Clintons). This tape overshadowed the release of Clinton’s Wall Street speeches where she called for “open borders and open markets” as well as some more damaging information from her e-mails. In fact, the timing of the release is a bit too perfect. But right now, the GOP needs to abandon Trump and throw everything they have into saving the House and the Senate. Stop throwing good money after bad and focus on the fight you can win. Because as bad as a Clinton presidency may be, a Clinton presidency with a Democratic Congress would be worse.

Sounds to me like he is a full blown hysteric. Of all the Trump gaffes and screw ups (many you listed in your post) this one moves the outrage meter the least. It is perfectly clear to me what this is, an old(er) man bragging to a younger man that he still has lead in his pencil, BFD. Talk about clutching pearls, instead of getting all indignant about someone bragging about “grabbing pussies” in a private conversation, document some actual actions in this area, then we can condemn him together.

Your source equates this verbal bravado from one guy to another as sexual battery, what nonsense, and you propagating this happy horseshit makes you complicit.

It’s going to get a lot worse

We’ll see. Considering the thousands of man hours the liberal attack machines in the form of the MSM and DNC operatives have already put into grubbing up dirt on one of the dirtiest men ever to run for office, to think this is the best they got, pretty pathetic if you ask me.

Romney had his 47%, which cost him the election, that comment was meant for just the donors in that room, this was a private conversation between 2 guys measuring their dicks, to glean some insight into personal qualifications for anything is pretty meaningless.

Agree with most of this except the “abandon” part. Most sane GOPers know Trump is not going to win, no how no way, so yes, put your energy into the congressional and local races. But I have nothing good to say about GOP weaselly grandstanding, publicly pulling your support for Trump and asking him to step down. This is the broken down decrepit horse we have in this race, don’t bet your hard earned money on him, but don’t cut him off at the knees either.

See the links in Soave’s post to multiple allegations.

And I’ve been in many locker rooms. When I was at UVa, I had football players boasting about sexual exploits in the next row. I work out the Y, which is Naked Old Man Central. “I’d hit that” or “Dude, I totally had her and her mother” are boasting/locker room talk. “I grab their pussies and they don’t do anything about it because I’m famous” is not.

So, his “ample evidence” is the “Trump raped his ex wife”, which she later recanted, yeah, Hysterics in spades.

Hardly representative, a one time time locker room experience with real football players, or the “Y” where the conversation is more likely about this mornings aches and pains, a recommended urologist, or the latest AARP perks. You have lead a sheltered life.

“I grab their pussies and they don’t do anything about it because I’m famous” is not.

    You misquoted him, not surprising.

Earlier in the recording he mentioned “moving” on a woman and failing which means he understands that no means no, a lesson Bill Clinton never learned. I know, Bill is not the issue here, but it provides context, boorish vulgar behavior vs. an actual serial rapist.

Also, multiple accusations from women who worked for him.  Multiple accusations from the set of the apprentice.  This is who he is.

At least Trump did apologize right away and didn’t wait several months like Bubba did. And I’m not all that impressed by the calls from “other Republicans,” namely the ones who ran against him and their supporters, for him to quit.

As far as his history goes, he should have been more prepared in case something like this ever came out, at least.

Also from Donald Trump in the tape. He’s talking about sexual assault here… It’s not that it’s ‘locker room talk’. It’s that it’s ‘locker room talk’ about the times he’s groped women.

Of all the Trump gaffes and screw ups (many you listed in your post) this one moves the outrage meter the least.

Maybe for you. But for women, not so much. And white women too. That’s a demographic that was teetering to begin with.

This is going to get ugly –  there’s no way the debate isn’t about this, and you just know the Trump campaign is going to go on the offensive (pardon the pun). I don’t think he wins on the Bill Clinton issue – and especially after this. But you just know he’s going to go there.

I don’t come around much anymore – I’ve stated my reasons before.  but basically – it was due to lack of civility by certain posters here.

Mostly I just want to say I’m sorry for your loss. There used to be a time – even within my lifetime (I’m in my middle 50s) when decency took precedence in political discussion. We would never hear an elected official stand up during the state of the union and shout – you’re lying. The whole birther thing would have been laughed out of the stadium at the starting block. Trump would have lasted a nanosecond. People did not relish in their lack of education or mock empathy as being too PC.

Here’s my take. Greed has no moral compass. In order to pass economic policy that benefits only the few at the very top a coalition had to be assembled – it started with the southern strategy and unfortunately ends with Trump. (at least I hope it ends.)

A whole lot of good meaning conservative folks have been sold out via histrionics over non issues.

I’m actually sad – not surprised. A meltdown like this was inevitable considering the lack of respectful behavior that has been engendered the last couple decades.

I have many friends and family members who are feeling rudderless now. Like I said – I’m sorry for your loss.

Basically what we have here is the left perpetrating a coordinated character assassination, and doing so while – if you allow me to use a biblical reference about the guy worried about the toothpick in his neighbor’s eye and ignoring the beam in his own – having done far worse.

Trump is a boor, a clown, and not PC. Both Obama and Hillary, and for that matter, practically every democrat, are criminals, created the most corrupt and vile government this country has ever seen, and basically break laws, abuse power, and commit real acts of violence against those they view as their political enemies.

But here we are wasting time on Trump doing guy talk. In the mean time Bill, whom has actually acted upon these things and is the proverbial sexual predator, and Hillary, the only person to commit more corrupt and despicable acts than Obama, are defended by the fucking DNC agents pretending to be media.
