All Gave Some, Some Gave All

On this, tax day 2016, where half the population is grumbling and the other half is saying ,”Thanks for the assistance, suckers”, I thought it appropriate to provide a diversion, something to feel good about while Uncle Sam picks your pockets;

I am re reading American Caesar (I wonder if you New Zealanders know how close you guys came to getting invaded in 1942). There are not many WW2 veterans left. My uncle fought the Japanese with Admiral Halsey. My father in law was in his second year at Stanford when we were attacked at Pearl Harbor. He quit school, flew to Hawaii, and put his engineering background to use raising several of the ships sunk in the attack. Both are dead, and I could tell you exactly what they would think of the current batch of inferiors running for president.

    An uncle served during that time. My dad served during Occupied Japan. Both have been gone for many years, but I can assure you, my dad would have no use for Donald Trump or Hillary Clinton.

    I’m glad that the WWII members of my family have not had to see what a farce our elections have been since 2008.  Nobody worth voting for, and nobody conservative who seemed to want elected.

    Hey Rich,

    The batch of inferiors running for the top office isn’t something new. For me this decline started with the 1980s election (the right guy won). We have subsequently had people of constantly lowering caliber follow that, culminating in the 2008 and 2012 elections giving us the moron we have now. That our options for the next election involve people just as bad as him isn’t a coincidence, but the continuation of a terribly sad trend. The people that are right for the job will never make it pas the gatekeepers whom want people they can control to keep the status quo. We are doomed.

    Repmom, I hope you are staying dry and safe, been hearing about the awful floods in Houston, our prayers are with you guys.

    I get what you are saying but, being an old guy who first cast his vote for Gerald Ford and has not missed a presidential election, it really is different now. There was always someone palatable, a guy that I at least admired or had some moral constitution that was elevated above the rest, not this time. No, between those that have any chance at all, I not only can’t get behind them I would not even want to play tennis with them or share a beer.

    I read a piece a few weeks ago, the premise being that with the advent of social media, tabloid news and 24 coverage, good qualified people are reticent to put themselves and their families through the mud bath  that goes with political endeavors, too bad.

    Rich –

    We were lucky. Our area (a bit north of Houston) only got five inches of Monday’s rain, so we are good.

    Thanks for the concern; appreciate it.
