No Laughing Matter

A constant truism exhibited over the years by the left is their inability or unwillingness to deal with criticism. Probably from lack of practice, but when your megaphone, the bought and paid for MSM, suddenly forgets their lines and challenges previously held protocols for decorum, the flummoxed are at a loss, not knowing whether to scratch their watch or wind their ass. Ditto with that ever elusive concept known as free speech. “Free” seems to be a conditional term, like free for me but not for thee,”We will stand up and protect your right to express yourself, as long as we agree with that expression”. From calls to fire Rush to Obama’s war with Foxnews, the thin skinned absolutely refuse to tolerate that with they deem intolerant. Enter Miss Pantsuit;

In what appears to be a first for a serious presidential contender, Hillary Clinton’s campaign is going after five comedians who made fun of the former Secretary of State in standup skits at a popular Hollywood comedy club.

A video of the short performance, which is less than three minutes, is posted on the website of the renowned club, Laugh Factory, and the Clinton campaign has tried to censor it. Besides demanding that the video be taken down, the Clinton campaign has demanded the personal contact information of the performers that appear in the recording. This is no laughing matter for club owner Jamie Masada, a comedy guru who opened Laugh Factory more than three decades ago and has been instrumental in launching the careers of many famous comics. “They threatened me,” Masada told Judicial Watch. “I have received complains before but never a call like this, threatening to put me out of business if I don’t cut the video.”

No one should dismiss the reach and power of the Clintons (Vince Foster) or poo poo this guy’s concerns about his own personal safety.

We have seen Obama’s short fuse when it comes to the press not towing the party line. When Hollywood wanders off the reservation, even minutely, it can throw them for a loop. The left gets special reverence right up there with Muslims. Rip a Christian or a Jew, they can handle it, no worries on your end, but say something unflattering about a Muslim and those damn blasphemy laws kick in, and you better go into witness protection.

    Looks like the story is bullshit. The owner of the club said he got a call from one person who claimed to be from the Clinton campaign.  That’s it. Sorry, but I’m going to need a little more than that.

    (Not to deny that the Clintons are petulant censorious twats who have conniptions when they’re criticized. It’s just that this specific story look very suspect.)

    PS – Looks like Reason dug into it and couldn’t find anything either.

    From your link;

    Yet there was Masada—a man who has won awards from the American Civil Liberties Union and the NAACP, and has no discernable right-wing agenda—quoted as saying, “They threatened me. I have received complains before but never a call like this, threatening to put me out of business if I don’t cut the video.”

    So because this source did not record the call or get the last name of the caller, you are ready to dismiss it out of hand? OOOOOOOOOKKKKKKKKKK.

    His progressive credentials, proof of no ax to grind, should lend some weight to his story, but yes, I guess he could have made it up.

    I’m not saying he made it up. I think he’s probably telling the truth.  I’m saying that even if you take his account at face value, all it amounts to is “some dude I can’t identify called me and said I should take down the video”.  That’s hardly a searing indictment there.

    Except that this is clearly a person who supports Democrats in general and has no particular reason to besmirch Hillary in particular, who could have said nothing about this ever.  He is only mentioning this to verify who to check with if something happens to him.  You don’t want it to be true, but the Clintons have a scary record for smearing agitators and disliking jokes at their expense.

    I don’t want it to be true?  You should read one of my early posts on the site:

    Tell me something, Mr. President [Clinton]. Was it just good politics when your party made a big deal out of Newt Gingrich’s nasty divorce the second he won the 1994 election? And what about when “someone” leaked Linda Tripp’s arrest record—information only available in her confidential FBI file? How about the early days of the Lewinsky scandal when your people were telling anyone who would listen that she was a stalker living in a fantasy world? Saving that damned dress saved her career. It’s a good thing Ken Starr was such a square—all that the “press” could dig up was that he cross-dressed for a fraternity play. And I suppose it was just a coincidence that when Colin Powell was contemplating a 1996 Presidential run, his wife’s problems with depression became headline news.

    And when Bush’s quashed drunk driving arrest was suddenly leaked three days before the 2000 election? No politics of personal destruction there. Nor all the unfounded accusations that he was stupid, illiterate, a cocaine user and a draft dodger.

    The Clintons talk about the politics of personal destruction.  But they invented it.  I have no doubt they will smear everyone they can.  But this is low level even for them.  I need a little more evidence than “some guy called me”.
