    They called a “no pitch” on the play. MLB issued a clarification to umpires that said this was the right thing to do because the ball never got to the plate.

    However, the interesting thing is that the playbooks and casebooks do cover the idea that if the batter hits the ball and it strikes a bird what should happen because that had happened in the past.
