Sochi Thread

A few months ago I wrote a post over The America’s Cup, a post highlighting the patriotism of progressives would have gotten more attention, well, I’m doing it again.

For those so inclined to chime in on anything Sochi related, here ya go.

No, I did not watch opening ceremonies last night. I figured Putin would use this to rewrite history and play out sketches of how Russia beat Napoleon single handed, had won WW1 and WW2 all by themselves, was kind enough to allow all those satellite states to go it alone, and oh, it is such a great place to live if you are into freedom and civil liberties, so I skipped it. As far as I’m concerned, the only thing good about Russia are the women, so unless they were going to parade a bunch of those around scantly clad, I just Netflixed old episodes of It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia. I did notice (through reporting over the internet) that the stands were conspicuously empty (I’d a guessed all the gulags emptied out to fill the seats) and their little light glitch with the Olympic Rings (tee hee).

A good choice for lighting the torch, all things politics, remember?

And, as fitting, the USA took the very first medal, a gold.

Although I will not be watching much, if anything extra ordinary happens ( and my sincerest prayer is that nothing terror related occurs, not being able to drink the water or flush the toilet is bad enough) I will post it here.

I guess I’m obligated……………..GO USA.

    Like I already posted before WVR: the fucking left keeps trying to pretend communism was cool, should get a chance for a comeback,and wants us all to forget that over 100 million people were tortured and killed, while billions were abused and held prisoner by their own government. Of course, that was not communism, the right people were not in charge, and if we let them, they will finally get it right this time around.

    These people are plain despicable, but I can at least respect the ones that don’t pretend they have a problem with communism when they really don’t.

    I watched some of the opening last night. It wasn’t too bad at all. I kinda had a laugh when they made the final run to light the cauldron, and ran out of the stadium to what seemed like an empty parking lot. Almost looked like a comedy act where they were going to steal the torch and leave everyone in the stadium hanging. Maybe it was just the camera shot though. Anyhow, hope all goes well for the games.

    Also, what’s the deal? I was reading a story where fellow athletes wanted to put Celebrate Sarah stickers on their helmets out of memory to a fellow Olympian who died recently, but the IOC said it was too political. Seriously?

    The IOC has pulled this kind of shit before;

    And I saw this over at IOTW;

    Cringe worthy, this was the comment I posted;

    “That was absolutely hilarious. The best part was watching some of the older KGB henchmen on the periphery making constipated faces.

    Don’t they have more Ukrainians to go beat up?

    Hey, Putin, leave pop music alone, you guys just don’t have rhythm. Isn’t there another mirror in the ladies room you haven’t checked yourself out at?”

    Santino, you bastard

    They almost threw me out of my sports club. I’m watching the game while on the stairmaster, 5 minutes left with the US up 2-0, then 2-1, I’m yelling my head off much to the dismay of everyone around me, don’t they know how important this game is?

    Anyway, congrats, you Hosers, and a great game, well played.

    Please, God, give the men’s team a victory on Friday.

    The US men’s team is pretty strong, they’ve put on an offensive clinic. Hopefully we can deal with your potent offense.

    I don’t think I can take another close game, I’m still trying to come down.

    I’ve been watching quite a bit of the games. Every woman skier is hot. It’s like models competing, especially that one from Austria.

    Then of course the Columbus Blue Jackets, aka the Russian Men’s hockey team was eliminated yesterday. Is there even a country to root for in the men’s hockey, or do you just pull for your favorite NHL player?
