It’s All The GOP’s Fault: Part 623

In the comments to the Detroit bankruptcy, we half-joked that it would be blamed on Bush.

Guess what?

ED SCHULTZ: Michigan used to be a symbol of industrial strength in manufacturing in this country. But thanks to a lot of Republican policies, the city is now filing for bankruptcy. Now, it’s the largest public sector bankruptcy in U.S. history, and the consequences could be devastating if you care about people. The already small force of police, firefighters and EMTs are in danger of future layoffs, that’s only going to make it worse. Roughly 30,000 retired workers are concerned about their pensions. You know, what they’re counting on.

Make no mistake, Detroit is exactly what the Republicans want. They outsourced manufacturing jobs, attack unions, cut public services, and this is the result. Now they can wipe the slate clean because now they can start privatizing city assets.

Detroit attacked unions and cut public services? Um, Ed? That’s the precise opposite of true. They haven’t cut public services and have one of the highest ratios of public employees to population in the nation. They didn’t attack unions and currently owe billion in unfunded liabilities. They tried to tax their way out of it and drove businesses away.

Detroit is a distillation of everything wrong with Democratic party priorities. Rather than defend that, they are going on the offensive. Schultz is not the only one spewing this line of garbage. But the facts will not let them get away with it.

Before I even clicked the link I figured it was going to be the well whitey left it abandoned meme. Might I ask how come fine whiteboys like yourself didn’t and still don’t jump in to fill the void? Hell you can get a home for pennies on the dollar in Detroit. I would think the fine non racist intellectual elites would run in and snatch up those homes, start a business and start hiring the minorities they feel the rest of white America oppresses. Of course that would involve true commitment rather than talk which costs nothing.

If only they’d been allowed to spend more and stimulate the economy. Just ask Krugman, it’s because they spent too little to be effective.

CM will now give this a downvote because people in New Zealand know what’s really going on in America…

Morons in Detroit think that this is an incentive for people to move there, and once they do then there will be enough tax money to fix everything.

Too bad there’s no jobs to be had except dealing drugs. Might want to head over to Kentucky and find an auto plant that’s actually making cars, but you won’t have a union and you’ll be expected to actually work….

According to the preface, it’s because all us white folks held secret meetings in order to “mobilize” against minorities and make sure they didn’t leave like all the smart people did. Haven’t you been showing up for the white people meetings where we talk about how to keep the brotha’ down, laugh, drink scotch, rape brown girls, and agree to not sell homes to anybody that isn’t white. Or something like that, I was never quite sure how the meetings went…

Since the book is the work of a Princeton retard, I guess it’s just scratchy toilet paper.

Detroit suffered MAJOR race riots (enraged blacks destroying things and killing people) in 1967 for god knows what reason. The city was over 2 million at that time. As soon as the riots started, the flight also started. The city, which was like 80% white at the time, couldn’t help but be subjected to a “white flight”. That’s all there were to leave. The great freeways and high ownership of cars allowed anyone who could afford it (at significant loss in home value, I might add) to move to the suburbs, which are still pretty nice here. The subsequent 100% voting in of black democrats since has been the norm there. Some have been good (Mayor Archer and Mayor BIng come to mind) but the rest reflect the WORST form or cronyism and graft imaginable. It’s SOP for the city. The police force numbers about 20+ times that of my city (Livonia), yet Detroit only has about 5 times the population (about 600K in all honesty).

No you can’t. What you can buy is a home that’s appropriately priced that wouldn’t be worth building right now. You get a home that you paid an appropriate $1,000 for but you’re required to pay taxes for $75,000. Also, at least some of the Detroit bargain-price houses have already been urban-mined for the copper and would have to be repaired for thousands of dollars just to be fit for occupation.

I guess some people have to hold on to their delusions. Probably because they don’t have anything else. I almost feel sorry for people like Schultz. There isn’t an ounce of joy anywhere in that sad man’s life.

When you can’t defend the real world consequences of your idiotic ideology and beliefs, you are left having to pretend that the failure of your belief is someone else’s fault.

Just like these same morons tell us that communism didn’t fail because communism sucks ass – the Soviet version of communism was wrong, the western capitalist world undermined that “noble and just” system, or whatever other pap these fucking idiots pass off as wisdom to defend the indefensible – but because others undermined it, they are now telling us Detroit failed because of everything but liberal idiocy and corruption. It’s not a coincidence that the most corrupt and despicable government failures are caused by leftist control.

Totalitarian “do gooders” are not known for living in reality, and when reality catches up, they want others to take the blame. Detroit is just the first in a long line of other liberal paradises gone cesspool. But don’t you worry: they have a plan! When everyone is equally miserable “social justice” will have been served…

    MoAR collectivism!

One of the things nobody seems to want to talk about is how these public union pensions that the bankruptcy of Detroit will impact. First the leftists negotiated insane packages with themselves to keep an iron grip on power, then, when the real world intruded, they look ready to screw those voters hardcore. How likely are the Feds to jump in to save Detroit from the wrath of the ass-raped pensioners?

How likely are the Feds to jump in to save Detroit from the wrath of the ass-raped pensioners?

If Obama has his way, damn likely. He already has a vested interest in Detroit (hence the slurpy comments from that judge about not honoring the president).

In the progressive mind, this is the very purpose of government, to help the downtrodden, to bail out the little guy (his supporters) on the backs of honest taxpayers, it’s not his money.

Democrat mayors from about a dozen big cities across the land (hello Chicago) are bringing heat to the WH ,”You can’t let those poor people drown, they need saving”, and thus would their unfunded pension liability in their city go away, taken by the feds.

And it’s not like you can blame the individual pensioner, it’s not his fault that the city gave way more then they could afford (part snark, but absolutely true), the city would know better how much money they had and what they could bargain for, more then the common pensioner.

For all those folks that think Obama and his pals are going to sit back and let a prime example of their progressive experiment fail, well, they have not been paying attention the last 5 years.

The Governor has stated he opposed a bailout because Detroit’s problems are far too deep. Simply handing them a sack of money isn’t going to solve the problem. They’ll be back in another five years for more money.
