Man, it must suck when you find out that even the companies with the most progressive and all-encompassing benefit structures have to abandon those policies because what they now are required to do under the disastrous Obamacare law is cost prohibitive. from the article:
The Rochester-based grocer that has been continually lauded for providing health insurance to its part-time workers will no longer offer that benefit.
Until recently, the company voluntarily offered health insurance to employees who worked 20 hours per week or more. Companies are required by law to offer health insurance only to full-time employees who work 30 hours or more per week.
Several Wegmans employees confirmed part-time health benefits had been cut and said the company said the decision was related to changes brought about by the Affordable Care Act.
Get that? The company used to provide healthcare benefits even for part timers, but now it doesn’t anymore. While the article doesn’t elaborate on the reason – and that’s not an accident – the problem is cost and regulation. The new bureaucracy any business will need to comply with plethora of onerous, contradictory, and outright painful Obamacare regulations is cost prohibitive. The cost of healthcare itself has jumped, and will jump even more, because of Obamacare. Coupled the two serve to push even companies like Wegmans to give up and let someone else pay for the “free healthcare”.
Don’t you worry about these poor people though, because there is a silver lining according to the article:
However, part-time employees may actually benefit from Wegmans’ decision, according to Brian Murphy, a partner at Lawley Benefits Group, an insurance brokerage firm in Buffalo.
“If you have an employee that qualifies for subsidized coverage, they might be better off going with that than a limited part-time benefit,” Murphy said.
That’s because subsidized coverage can have a lower out-of-pocket cost for the insured employee while also providing better benefits than an employer-paid plan.
Hmm.. That’s a couple of big “ifs” there. First you have to qualify for subsidized coverage. My bet is that means you have to be below some arbitrary income line that qualifies you as living in poverty, and while some might qualify for that, my bet is most, by a large margin, will not. And then, if you manage to qualify, there are another couple of if-hurdles to clear.
You could be on some subsidized coverage that potentially had a lower out-of- pocket cost than the plan you used to have. I can see that happening. Of course, even if they pretend otherwise, for it to happen that way, you must go where government wants you to for care, and I guarantee you the quality of care will be low while gaining access will require long wait periods. It’s the only way government keeps costs down. Then again, these fuckers do not give a shit that tax payers will be footing the bulk of the bill, as the article points out you will be getting far better benefits, want/need them or not. So maybe you will get primo care with no wait, and other people will pay for all that! BONUS!
“It’s a win-win. The employee gets subsidized coverage, and the employer gets to lower costs,” Murphy said.
Yeah, sure. It’s a win-win for everyone but the people that end up footing the bills. That is the productive tax payers. People that want full time employment, employers that would rather have full time employees with more manageable plans and flexibility, or employers that would have otherwise expanded and created more jobs, and of course tax payers, will all get the shaft though. Who fucking cares about those stupid details. Keynesians marxists, like the ones running the country now that have straddled us with this idiotic, bloated, job & economy killing behemoth, all think money to pay the bills for their overspending comes from ripping off the productive, printing presses, and borrowing, anyway.
This article tries to spin a big negative into a positive, but you have to be a fucking imbecile to think that’s what’s really going on here. The unspoken truth and reality is Obamacare is working as intended and driving us all to part time employment and government controlled heatlhcare. because nothing says we care about you more than the nanny state owning and controlling you! Enjoy the shit sandwich you morons.
