Siege in Boston

I’ve been trying to catch up. I was up until 2:30 last night, fell asleep and woke up to the news this morning. Here is what is known:

1) The police identified the two bombers from photos and videos of the marathon. One was identified by the man who had his legs blown off who looked the suspect in the eye after he dropped off the backpack.

2) A shootout erupted late last night between the suspects and the police. One is dead and apparently had explosives on him. The other is at large.

3) As a result, Boston schools are shut down. People are being told to stay in their homes while police and federal agents go house to house.

4) It’s not precisely clear but the shooting of a cop at MIT may have been related.

5) On Twitter, the rumor is that these guys have been in the country for a year and are Chechen. But this information is not confirmed.

Now a few thoughts:

1) From what I can tell, the authorities are doing as good a job as they can keeping this contained. If these guys had guns and explosives on them, they may have been intending a killing spree. Last report I had was at least three cops were hurt, possibly two dead, including the MIT cop. And witnesses describe cops going to into the fray without armor. Boston Strong, my friends.

2) The international/political implications can be worked out over the next few weeks. I’m not giving a shit about that right now. All I care about is that they catch guy #2 and make sure there are not guys #3, 4 or 5 out there.

3) It hardly needs to be said, but my thoughts and prayers are with everyone in the firing line up there. I found out about this last night from a friend on Facebook who was blocks away from the gunfight that erupted. I know — you probably know — many people in the area. Let’s hope they are all safe and unharmed and that justice swiftly finds the remaining killer.

One report is saying the guy who’s still alive has an ‘assault rifle’ on him. Somebody needs to explain to him that it’s illegal to carry one around in the states he has been reported in so that he will stop.

No doubt obtained through the gunshow loophole… probably has high-capacity magazine clips, too.

Anyway, politics and Hal isn’t looking for that. COuldn’t resist.

Good hunting to the coppers in the Boston area. I want to hope they can take the guy alive but dead is fine, too. If he’s alive the far left whackos will latch on to him and he’ll be of no value anyway. Yep, dead is good. Shoot straight boys and girls.

The witness SAW a guy drop off a backpack and walk away and didn’t do anything about it? Man, thaqt seems strange. If I saw someone drop off a backpack in a crowded area, I’l immediately speak out or try to find a police.

I think it went off about a minute later.

My cousin’s family is on lockdown in Boston. Scary stuff.

Thrill, did you hear the brothers’ uncle’s interview? That guy is something else.

  6. Thrill

Yeah, I did. Contrast him with the father, who says they’re “angels” who were “set up”.

I can sympathize with a grieving father (even a father of monsters), but if he doesn’t minimize that shit, he may need to be deported.

  7. pfluffy

Yea, most parents think of their kids as angels, but this dad is going to be disappointed (unless he’s part of it). I sympathize as well, but you are correct, he needs to stifle it.

Re: the aunt, I’m not too surprised that she thinks they were set up. After all, she grew up and was a lawyer in the Soviet Union. During the press conference she said that before she left the USSR, she got used to the government framing people, especially Chechens.

Makes me wonder why we import crazy people from paranoid regions of the world known for being extremist breeding grounds. I think we have quite enough maniacs in the US already.

Yeah, like a certain member of this site who liked to entertain that very same thought.

Also, the father does not appear to be living in the US.

The Muslim world sighs in relief…..

This “sigh” that you speak of, is that the sigh of elation that 2 Muslim brothers carried out Jihad against adherents of the Great Satan? You know these guys were Islamists, don’t you?

  12. Poosh

Is Chechens now a new euphemism for Muslims?

The entire Middle East… and London.

  13. Poosh

come off it. It would be extremely unlikely that the attack would be anything BUT Islamists. Islamic terrorists are constantly stopped from striking any given Western country every god damn year, on and on and on. It never ends.

One was always going to get through.

Not to jump the gun, but hopefully now those THICK, IGNORANT DIPSHITS who STILL don’t get this whole War on Terror thing will finally get it. These scum could have bloody taken a shot at f*cking Putin – or any Russian target – Chechens ffs! after all!

    But they chose American runners.

because they hate you. Not for anything you’ve done. Not for any war, Not for anything you’ve ever done in another country – but because of who you are.

*still think the internet age will increase the likelyhood of a far-right (LIBERTARIAN) attack in the near future mind you. The way they talk about government really is unhinged … and Youtube et al has increased the audience – but when they strike, it will be a goddamn government target, not bloody runners!

I’m have a bit of a problem with the whole “Chechen” connection. They ARE bat-shit crazy but they are at war with Russia. And with many good reasons, not that I agree with ANY of their tactics. Still the Chechen war is political NOT religious.
Which begs the question: WHY BOSTON? The London Marathon would make more sense.

And yes they ARE muslims but they ARE NOT Al Qaeda. If fact the Chechen’s continue to throw Al Qaeda out of Chechnya every day. They want independence, by any means even horrific ones. But they do NOT want a Caliphate.

This doesn’t make sense to me, what am I missing?

Al Qaeda has been trying to recruit from that region for years. That’s what.

Again, you’re mix up religious fanaticism with political fervor.

  17. Thrill

It’s not about simplicity. They know that we are on the alert for Middle Eastern men. This is why some random innocent Saudi gets tackled by bystanders immediately after almost getting killed by a bomb.

Al-Qaeda or an affiliated group would absolutely be interested in apparently self-radicalized Caucasians like these two.

    Yeah,
Maybe he will tell us who killed Kennedy, all about Fast and Furious, what really happened in Benghazi and Who’s on first.

Single life? Three dead from the bombs, one dead MIT cop, and you seriously posted about hoping the second terrorist stayed alive?? Fuck the terrorist, and I say that in the most emphatic way possible. I would be pleased as punch if this guy had an “accident” before trial. If he doesn’t get the death penalty, then lunacy has fully taken over.

This doesn’t make sense to me, what am I missing?

You falsely assumed Chechnya wasn’t intertwined with religion. You do know there are multiple Islamic terrorist groups across the globe, some competing, right?

But, I think I’ll just assume calling these guys Chechens/ Russians is just a statement of their nationality… I mean the other day we locked up 4 Muslims for trying to do the same shit and they were not called Muslims at all, they were just called, amusingly, “British men”.

From my rough knowledge, it may be unlikely you’ll get anything from this guy, depending on who is pulling the strings, but, it’s generally compartmentalised etc. So it will be hard to trace the guys behind it (who are probably in Pakistan etc anyway).

But I believe the American intelligence services are more than capable, at least on paper.

  25. Poosh

One views themselves as Allah’s warriors the other see their struggle as a fight for freedom.

I think you probably are aware by now, but have merely forgotten, that “freedom” for certain people does not mean freedom as the West knows (see Arab Spring). You’re talking about “Freedom fighters” who took over a Russian school and raped and killed the children. That ain’t freedom they’re after bro. That’s Jihad. Jihad IS FREEDOM from their POV. Not as clear cut obviously, as not all Muslims care about Jihad and Russia’s tyranny is real, unlike American “tyranny”.

  26. Poosh

Which begs the question: WHY BOSTON? The London Marathon would make more sense.

What part of they want to kill you, don’t you understand?

It was always total bullshit that Islamic terrorists did this for any actual grievance other than you’re a liberal democracy which is secular. All are valid targets. Islamic terrorists are constantly targeting places across the globe. Why, in Iraq, do they blow up a market every 4 months KILLING MUSLIMS, ? Boston is just a good target as any, it was actually a very good target from their POV. They killed and ruined a lot of non-“Muslim” lives, that’s a win win for them. One of them even got into Jihad Heaven, managed to kill a policeman I believe? That’s a pretty positive message to send the Jihadish/Devout Muslim world. America, until Obama got into office, had a pretty good record since 9/11 of stopping these guys. It’s a great moral boast, even better if we find out these were just “wild card” terrorists, not given as much support as other better trained terrorists get.

Single life? Three dead from the bombs, one dead MIT cop, and you seriously posted about hoping the second terrorist stayed alive??

I meant from that point forward (i.e. nobody else but the perp would die). But I’m glad they got him alive (I’d rather the world still be a place where people are tried and punished where possible).

I’m doing some work for some Devout Muslims. I’m meeting up with them in a couple of hours. I’ll be sure to ask how positive the message was for them.
