A local SeeBS in NY is surprised and reports that 80% of their public school graduates, in an expensive remedial program, are functionally illiterate:
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — It’s an education bombshell. Nearly 80 percent of New York City high school graduates need to relearn basic skills before they can enter the City University’s community college system. The number of kids behind the 8-ball is the highest in years, CBS 2′s Marcia Kramer reported Thursday.
When they graduated from city high schools, students in a special remedial program at the Borough of Manhattan Community College couldn’t make the grade. They had to re-learn basic skills — reading, writing and math — first before they could begin college courses. They are part of a disturbing statistic.
Blue social model! Me, I am surprised actually that 20% are not functionally illiterate too. Even more frightening is the fact that these people go to community college where they need more work to teach them what 12 years of public schools did not. I hope they are getting that college for free too, or they are getting shafted.
I wonder what the demographic breakdown of these kids that are being failed are. With combination of some of the most over paid and under performing teachers unions, and a population that all but considers getting educated something dumb and a waste of time, in practically all these super blue model states, I have to admit I am not surprised by this low result. And I bet these kids have some of the highest levels of self esteem thinking they are god’s gift to the world too. But the joke is always about the southern redneck being the only dumb people. Go figure.
