As you can tell from my Saturday through Thursday absences of late, I’m busy. There hasn’t been time to even read stuff, much less blog about. I like the hurried pace, all things considered. It makes the time go by fast and the present is always such a drag. Plus, it’s sort of flattering to be “in demand” everywhere. I’d rather be used than useless, as I often say.
Still, it’s a pain in the ass when I really want to get something done and just can’t. Like throwing together a quality music playlist.
So I need you guys to pick up some of my slack already. Let’s have some songs about:
1. Busy-ness, workaholism, the frenetic pace of modern life, etc
2. Fast, but short songs. Kind of an “Oh, is it over already?” type of song. Like, one minute wonders.
3. Hard working musicians. Lots of albums, lots of tracks, known for constant touring. Honor those who rock hard
4. Those with a remorseless, pounding pulse like Life itself. Just…driven (see pfluffy’s dedication below)
5. My mind is strung out. I can’t even
First up is Ain’t No Rest for the Wicked by Cage the Elephant. I smirk every time I hear it on the radio (with a wink to Biggie G, of course).
Here’s all I can give you right now. If you want more, make an appointment:
Biggie G: Ain’t No Easy Way by Black Rebel Motorcycle Club
WVR: Permanent Daylight by Radiohead
pfluffy: Gladiator by The Jesus Lizard
Mississippi Yankee: Timebomb by The Old 97′s
Santino: Time to Waste by Alkaline Trio
Iconoclast: Panic Attack by Dream Theater
FPrefect: No Fun by The Stooges

A short (under 3 minutes) classic with a couple of primal screams from the late Keith Moon…
My favorite part is the rather abrupt ending.

Whilst not frenetic in the traditional sense, John Handy with “Hard Work” gets the point across:

fuck me. what is the right tag for youtube vids?
Thrill says:
January 11, 2013 12:43 pm at 12:43 pm (UTC -4)
There isn’t one. You just copy and paste the address that’s in the Youtube address bar right onto the comment. No tags.
I fixed it for you.

working_man, I wonder if it has to do with security settings on your browser or system. When I post from work the videos don’t embed, and using the “link” button royally fucks things up from work. I just posted the above video from home and presto it’s embedded.

Did someone say driven???
Iconoclast says:

The trick to embedding is to immediately edit the post after submission and remove the “[YouTube " tag at the beginning of the url. You can also remove the trailing "]” but it seems to work okay if you don’t. Then save.
Don’t be alarmed by the link apparently disappearing afterwards. Go to another thread, then come back and your embedded video should be there in all of its glory.

1. Part one of a musical homonym. Lazlo Bane – Superman
2. Nobody beats these guys for sub 1 minute songs. Husker Du – Punch Drunk
3. Ladies and gentlemen, the Hardest Working Man in Show Business! James Brown – Please, Please, Please.
4. I think this goes double in this theme. The Allman Brothers – Whipping Post
5. Part two of a musical homonym. Goldfinger – Superman
It really sucks when you realize you can’t do it all anymore.
