Andrew Needs A Hug

Barry is not at all happy with his supporters, and who can blame him? The cumulative gnashing of teeth, all the Chickens Littles running for cover, and all over one bad debate, it’s quite remarkable. I thought those guys were so steeped in history that an event played out before, more then once, would not cause such panic, boy, was I wrong:

The Pew poll is devastating, just devastating. Before the debate, Obama had a 51 – 43 lead; now, Romney has a 49 – 45 lead. That’s a simply unprecedented reversal for a candidate in October. Before Obama had leads on every policy issue and personal characteristic; now Romney leads in almost all of them. Obama’s performance gave Romney a 12 point swing! I repeat: a 12 point swing.

Romney’s favorables are above Obama’s now. Yes, you read that right. Romney’s favorables are higher than Obama’s right now. That gender gap that was Obama’s firewall? Over in one night:

I sure hope he didn’t go kick those two dogs of his.

Yes, this is a first for me, linking to the much maligned (I try) Andrew Sullivan, it won’t happen again.

I know, I should not get satisfaction out of the demise of others, and I will feel bad about later tonight, but I picture that constipated look he gets, especially with news like this, and I feel a symmetry with my ying and my yang, my planets are aligned.

He needs a pep talk, “Buck up there, sailor, it’s only one debate, and if he gacks the next one, just keeping calling Romney a liar, don’t get away from the familiar”.

Sullivan really appears to have lost the plot entirely on this. Yes Romney got a boost, but that’s what happens during campaigns – candidates go up and down. As Hal notes in his tweet, the idea that the election has swung 12 points all of a sudden is absurd. This is why it makes more sense, IMHO, to look at the models like Nate Silver’s rather then JUST polls, and certainly JUST ONE poll.

Of course it’s absurd. It also means that all those polls you’ve been quoting for the past few weeks were dramatically skewered with over-sampling. And as the election looms the MSM realizes they are on the verge of becoming irrelevant by using numbers that no honest person believes.

Their mantra was “by hook or by crook” well guess what… the hook didn’t work. I guess your up to bat now CM

For once he didn’t mention his Palin pregnancy conspiracy. Yeah, he’s just about shit himself over Obama’s electoral death spiral.

I find it funny as all hell.

This is why I don’t write about polls. Pew’s previous poll was clearly an outlier with Obama up by eight points. 538’s analysis indicated the real lead was about 4. Now they swung to another outlier. 538’s analysis shows Obama up by 1 or even. And the real change has been firming up of conservatives behind Romney and the break of some undecideds. Obama’s support hasn’t crumbled very much.

But based on one poll, you try to create a narrative.

Really, this is the most histrionic thing I’ve ever read. Sullivan really should get a commentary gig on MSNBC.

It doesn’t mean that at all.

    Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight.
What poll numbers should the MSM be using if it’s not the numbers of experienced and qualified pollsters?

    How so?

For once he didn’t mention his Palin pregnancy conspiracy.

I’ve been looking for that since you mentioned it a while back. I’ve seen maybe one vague mention in the last 8 months or so. I don’t doubt that he got obsessed by it, but it seems to have disappeared.

Let’s not go counting corpses before they are dead.

No one is doing that. Both the tone and content of the post was explicit, there was no predictions, no victory dances, and no ,”Well course Obama will lose”. It went strictly to the suicide note of Sullivan, how easily he can be pushed to cutting his own wrists over one measly debate. He is supposed to be one of the smarter sycophants, yet, look how easy he went all wobbly.

I still think Obama will win, but one more presidential performance like the last one and I may turn absolutely giddy.

Let’s not go counting corpses before they are dead. It’s not over yet.

I still think this is Obama’s election to lose. Romney had a great debate performance. But Americans are traditionally reluctant to throw out incumbent presidents.
