Thou Shalt Have No Other Gods Before Me

Obama never has been good at sharing the spotlight. Face it, stemming the rise of the oceans and healing the planet is a special monkey trick, not everyone can do it. Superlatives should be limited to true deities and with Obama only monotheism is allowed. So when the top dog in Catholic America asks to give a prayer at your convention, you politely tell him ,”I am the only god my people need”.

President Obama turned down a chance to have Timothy Cardinal Dolan deliver a prayer at the Democratic National Convention after Dolan told Democrats he would be “grateful” to deliver a blessing in Charlotte.

This request by Dolan was offered after he agreed to do similar duties for the GOP in Tampa.

Obama can’t still be pissed because Dolan and company filed suit against him and the HHS for religious freedom violations, surely he can put away petty squabbles concerning religious persecution and be magnanimous enough to accept a gesture made in good will.

I thought it was interesting that Rick Warren decided to cancel his political forum with the candidates. Clearly neither side wants to make nice with the other, so be it, the costs are to high for any pretense of civility.

I am going to assume that some benediction will be offered by some man of the cloth at some point during their convention, they usually do, but I hope Catholics don’t take this snub lightly.

If Obama was smart he would get this guy to offer up a prayer at their convention, although, something tells me Pastor Nelms would feel as ill at ease with these folks as Jesus did with the money changers in the temple at Passover.

Boogeddy, Boogeddy, Boogeddy, Amen!!

I think that Paul Shanklin’s “I’m Your Soul and Highest Inspiration” that Rush played a few weeks ago was pretty accurate. Who needs a god when you have Obama?

CHARLOTTE — Cardinal Timothy M. Dolan of New York, the head of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, has accepted an invitation to deliver the closing prayer at next week’s Democratic National Convention, according to a statement from Archdiocese of New York spokesman Joseph Zwilling.

I know, I know, I’m a partisan hack for even bringing it up.

More Obama pragmatism that you love so much, a flip flopper, or is he evolving?

I’m sure whatever makes Obama and me look both as bad as possible will work best. ;-p

I’m still trying to figure out how it went from turning down a request from Dolan to Dolan accepting an invitation.

It’s called flip flopping – you know, that thing you accuse Romney of in similar situations. go ahead and call them that – hell, you could even use this as one example of unbiased posts, even though the web is littered with others you have made. We just haven’t been linked to them yet.

If one reads the original NY Post article one finds:

    (Dolan)

wanted to make sure that they knew that this was not a partisan act on his part and that he would be just as happy and grateful to accept an invitation from the Democrats as he would to have received one from the Republicans,” said Zwilling.

“He has not been contacted by them” since, he added.

A senior Obama campaign official said yesterday that the Democrats would have a “high-ranking” Catholic at the convention, but indicated the arrangements weren’t yet final.

So it looks to me that the story was a bit ahead of itself.

My posts in this thread WEREN’T biased. I’m beginning to think that not only can you not read my posts properly, you don’t understand what the word biased means.
But wow, you’re on a little leg-humping crusade now aren’t you. Cute. I’m going to have grow some more legs, the queue is getting longer every day.

If that’s what it is, that’s what it is. I’d rather figure it out before deciding. You know, rather than just deciding based on an already-held partisan position. Because that would be dumb.

Funny, everyone else here seems to agree with me, but I am the leg humper.

Thank goodness you are so centered.

I can read just fine my man. And I have tried to give you the benefit of the doubt even when others were driving at you very hard. I decided, after months of your bullshit, that they were right.

Maybe a little self inspection is in order? If teams of people can’t stand your approach, maybe it isn’t everyone else, but maybe it is YOU.

You know, I speak worldwide…and one thing I have learned is that if my message is not getting through…it is not the audience’s fault. IT IS MINE.

Maybe you could take a look at that approach?

Or you could continue on your current path and have everyone not listen to a damn word you have to say. That seems likes a rather big waste of time for you.

    As I said, there’s a queue.
Partisans, desiring an echo-chamber, agree with each other???!! Who would have thunk it?!

And I have tried to give you the benefit of the doubt even when others were driving at you very hard. I decided, after months of your bullshit, that they were right.

I know, you’re not angry, you’re just so very disappointed in me. ;-)

I think it’s more a group-mentality thing, plus the election is coming up and ODS symptoms are manifesting. People are going a bit nuts.

    You know, I speak worldwide

    Is that you Jesus?

Maybe you could take a look at that approach?

I’ll judge it all on its merits.

Anyway, my point was that unless you are here to troll, you are trying to debate and learn. Right? So, apparently you would agree that the current method you employ is failing, right?

I know that I have biases…we all do. But I am open to debate. You can contact me via the message function on this site if you think you cannot have free exchange of ideas on this board. I would love to converse and leave out all of the BS.

I know it seems like I am humping your leg (I hope it is good for you, it made the earth shake for me), but I think you are a pretty smart dude that has a unique take on things. I think if you dropped some of the things I have suggested…your viewpoints would be taken more seriously and debated on their merits.

I just hate to come in here every day and see the same shit. I am sure you do too. I don’t (truly) want an echo chamber. I doubt many here do. Yes, we mainly have a certain set of beliefs, but we didn’t just fall into them – we have read, learned, viewed etc just as you.

So, drop all of the left links and use your own words. If we need links, we will ask. And if we do, try to find more neutral sources.

Or, keep the same method and hope for better results.

What do I do…kind of hard to explain. And, when I said I speak worldwide I hope it doesn’t come as a boast – I sincerely did not mean it that way. It was just part of my role and it allowed me to learn how to speak to people and get my point of view across. Many times I failed until I learned that the audience will tell me how to speak to them instead of me telling them how to listen.

But it is in enterprise software. I am sort of part time evangelist and software dude. I used to own a full suite of solutions that had R&D in Europe and the ME along with marketing in CA with sales globally.

Not too big of a role, so nothing much to brag about, but I have spoken to many audiences that were filled with many different nationalities and viewpoints. With the role I had, I was given the opportunity to create a new market for my company and to do it with company money (not a true entrepreneur but an “intrapreneur”).

I have pushed back on some of that though due to personal reasons. I was diamond or platinum on about every airline. Money wasn’t worth it…especially with kids and a beautiful wife. So I turned down some money and titles and pulled back. I still do it some as I enjoy it, but I manage it much better now that before.

I can tell you, as a boy raised in the rural South, travel has opened my eyes to the fact that most people want basically the same things – food, shelter, clothing, safety and opportunity. Some of my best friends are overseas and I miss them dearly. Skpe isn’t the same as being there. I do think travel is so important to understanding the world at large. I would hope that my experiences give me at least a chance of listening to other viewpoints.

Does this help or matter? Not being an ass, just wondering why you asked.

Not being an ass, just wondering why you asked.

Because I do the same thing – talk to large groups around the world. My kids are grown and out of the house and my wife and I work as a team – so it’s a pretty sweet deal for me. I couldn’t see doing it alone.

I couldn’t see doing it alone.

For a while, we had no kids and it was cool. But then we started having them and had a near death experience for my wife and 3rd child. I had already started slowing down, but I changed my life at that point.

I turned down two really sweet career offers. The kind of offers I thought I had always wanted running large organizations and having a lot of “political pull.”

I couldn’t be happier and have no regrets. :)

I’m glad you didn’t take that the wrong way (as an insult against religion or anything similar, I didn’t realise you were very religious, I wouldn’t have said that if I did, just in case you DID take it the wrong way).

I would love to converse and leave out all of the BS.

    Same.

So what do I do when I see that someone is being dishonest about what I posted? Just give up on the discussion?

I just hate to come in here every day and see the same shit. I am sure you do too.

    Totally.

I don’t (truly) want an echo chamber. I doubt many here do.

That’s not the impression I get.

Yes, we mainly have a certain set of beliefs, but we didn’t just fall into them – we have read, learned, viewed etc just as you.

I have no doubt that is the case. I always try and take the view that people’s opinions are sincere and have not just been formed out of thin air.

So, drop all of the left links and use your own words. If we need links, we will ask. And if we do, try to find more neutral sources.

And will you and others do the same? Because if not, I’m operating under a whole different set of rules, which makes discussion quite difficult and unbalanced.

Thanks for your comments, appreciate what you’re trying to do.
