I Side With

Not surprisingly, the latest faddish website to identify your ideal candidate shows me aligned with Gary Johnson. Probably the biggest disagreement I have with him is on the Fair Tax, which I oppose.

More revealingly, my poll results show little space between Obama and Romney, who come in at 62% ad 64%, respectively. But therein lies a problem. You have to take their expressed views as reflective of what they will actually do. This is less of a problem with Obama, who has actual policies in place; although he still claims to be ramping down the War on Drugs while he ramps it up.

But Mitt Romney? Who knows what the hell he believes? The Mitt Romney running right now would cut taxes and increase spending and possibly go to war with Iran. The Mitt who governed Massachusetts would do neither. So my match with Mitt is much more uncertain.

I read about that yesterday. Just ridiculous. They’re saying both sides are to blame Uh, no. When you bang on someone’s door at 1:30 in the morning and fail to identify yourself as a cop, it’s not unreasonable for them to come to the door armed.

All three cops need to be made an example of, along with whatever douchebag said that not identifying themselves was a “minor detail”.

My personal preference would be a public hanging….

Hmm how did you manage that? I side 88% with Romney and 1% with Obama. The 88% surprised me; the 1% not so much.

And thanks for pointing out the site. I am going to use it for an election year project for my honors students.

    Ron Paul 96%
    Gary Johnson 95%
    Mitt Romney 69%
    Barack Obama 5%

    American Voters 2%

I frequently chose the “other stance” option, and used the weighting feature.

Mitt Romney 96% (on domestic policy, economic, foreign policy, healthcare, science, immigration, environmental, and social issues)
Ron Paul 71% (on economic, immigration, healthcare, environmental, and social issues)
    Gary Johnson 68%
    Barack Obama 62%
    TN Voters 77%
    American Voters 68%

I think that the fact that it’s possible to match Romney by 96 percent and still match Obama by over half says a lot about Romney. I probably should’ve tweaked my “importance” levels of the issues a bit more than I did.

Edit: I went back and read some of the assessments. I frequently disagreed with how it assigned my stance to agreeing with a candidate’s.

That’s because it’s way too simplistic. Most people will just do the fastest method possible to complete it, and the people who wrote it aren’t going for nuance, even if they actually understand what the different positions are.

    Stewart Alexander 80%
    Ron Paul 50%
    Romney 10%
    American Voters 86%

Again, not nuanced, and as a non US citzen, then obviously the environment matters more to me than, say, immigration. And of course, this reflects my support for fantasy Obama who actually does the things that he says he will (*cough* war on drugs *cough*)

Although it isn’t ata ll an exact science, it is interesting as a barometer of the posters here

    Gary Johnson – 90%
    Mitt Romney – 73%
    Barack Obama – 10%
    American Voters – 7%

I’m not all that surprised by the results. With Ron Paul though that 8 remaining % translates into ‘bat-shit’ crazy.

I hope Mr. Johnson remains in the political arena for a few more years. There will come a time when America will be ready to make that change. Remember Ronald Reagan didn’t get the nomination his first time at bat.

The biggest reason I side a little less toward Romney and more toward Obama is social issues and foreign policy.

Possibly climate change makes a difference there too (although, like in most areas, it’s hard to figure out where Romney actually sits).

Romney wants to improve employment in this country, CM. Shouldn’t that tell you where he stands on the environment?

I’m sure he’d say he wants to improve both employment and the environment. However ending the wind production tax credit (something he’s on record advocating) would potentially result in the loss of tens of thousands of manufacturing and construction jobs supported by the sector. That federal credit has allowed the wind industry to compete with heavily-subsidized fossil fuels that do considerable harm to the environment and public health — impacts that are not reflected in their price. So in that example, he would improve neither.

Poosh, do you get over 10% for American Voters?
The non-right non-Americans seem to have most in common with the average American voter. I think that says more about how far out on the fringe many people here are. 2% and 7% for two of the main posters – that’s gonna be around the same percentage that a political extremist nutjob would get.

CM, I got 60% US Citizens “agree” with “me” but really, I shouldn’t respond because you’re treating this hack-job *for fun* test as some sort of scientific test, which only a spastic would do.

    Love the nuance.

Wow you do spend a considerable amount of time and effort telling us all how you shouldn’t respond to spastics/morons. Toning down the whole playing-to-the-crowd thing might work out better for you. We could just take the constant personal abuse and playing-to-the-crowd as read if you like.
Anyway I’m surprised you got that high considering your opinions on most subjects.
