The Norks Blink

Maybe Littler Kim isn’t quite as insane as Lil’ Kim:

North Korea has agreed to halt nuclear tests, long-range missile launches and enrichment activities at its Yongbyon nuclear complex in exchange for food aid from the United States, the State Department said Wednesday.
The state-run North Korean news agency, KCNA, announced the agreement separately.

This is the first positive sign we’ve had out of North Korea … ever? No, since just the last time Lil’ Kim played this game. But this may indicate that Kim Jong Un is not quite batshit insane enough to favor nuclear weapons over starving citizens.

I have no idea how this will play out. But let’s keep our fingers crossed.

Uhh you’re sounding just a little naive there buddy. North Korea agrees to end activities at one facility in exchange for a shitload of food (that will go to party members and the army). Don’t you remember every other agreement the Norks have made about their nukes? They have cheated on every single one. How much you want to bet that the Norks have, maybe, just maybe, more than one nuclear facility?

In Rich’s defense he did write:

“This is the first positive sign we’ve had out of North Korea … ever? No, since just the last time Lil’ Kim played this game.”

I don’t think Rich has gone all Jimmy Carter on us thinking they are changing. It is just that maybe there is hope.

Is hope a plan? Nope – I doubt the nut feel far from the tree. But, they already have nukes so there is not much that can be done.Until Nuclear weapons become somehow obsolete or defensible at 100%, blackmail will be the order from that little spot on the planet.

Yeah, lets take this as just another one of the lies these assholes are going to tell us to make us give in to what they need currently ebfore going right back to doing everything they promissed not to do and more. We are playing the role of the abused wife that keeps believing the asshole that tells here that if she puts out for him this time he is really going to stop beating her into a pulp whenever he gets drunk. Seriously, the only way we end this is to tell them to fuck off an hope they implode instead of deciding they are going to go out with a bang.

Umm, this is Hal’s post, not mine.

Well, at least you know I love you.

Hal, I cant stand, so I had to substitute you in there. ;)

Seriously though, since I missed the edition time limit, Hal, you did put in the caveat and I doubt you expect son to be any different than dad in ol’ NK.

blame, I’m actually very very slightly optimistic, hence the post. I expected Kim III to start out tough withe some saber rattling.

I edited the post because I hit the submit button before I was finished writing it and looked up previous agreements. THey have shut down the facility before when they got desperate. But on NK, I’m looking or anything positive. And if the new administration isn’t completely batshit insane, that might be a reason or optimism.

Even if NK were sane, this would be a very very long and slow unravelling. NK is so isolated and cut off, it’s going to be a stunning cultural shock to wake up and find they are one of the worst off countries in the world while their southern neighbors are wealthy and happy. The whole society could cave in.

I agree Hal that there is some sign of cautious optimism as maybe Kim lll may want some western influence to spend his stolen money on. He is younger than dear old dead dad of course, so maybe his royal oats haven’t been sown properly and he wants some western style fun. Maybe he doesn’t want the stress of having every nation hating his guts. Don’t know.

But, at least now there is a chance, albeit so slim. When daddy was still alive = no chance. Daddy is dead = some, although very, very slight chance. One is obviously better than the other.
