The Friend Zone

It’s been fun the last few days being somewhat off the grid. But I’ll ease back into things before I go for the heavy shit. This video circulated about a week ago and I’m guessing the heavy (if not entirely) male tilt of our audience will make this a well-discussed video.

While the video is tongue-in-cheek, I think the gist is right, especially for young guys who have yet to learn that once you’re friends with a woman, the likelihood of the relationship up ending in the sack is … well, not zero, but low. I’ve often heard women describe a relationship where there is unresolved sexual tension as a good thing; I have rarely heard a man say this. At least, not an unmarried one.

I really enjoy women. Not just as sexual partners, but as friends too. But having said that, I’ve usually ended up in bed with them anyway. My guess is that it kind of happens when you become close and if you both are available. Add a few beers, drinks or wine, and…

I think Sam Kinison said it best…”Friends…yeah, I know what you mean. I become this emotional tampon you need 2 or 3 days a month when no one else will put up with your fucking bullshit…and we don’t fuck! Is that what you mean honey?”

Sure they can be friends, if he has absolutely no interest in ever fucking her.

Women are in total denial about this, but men aren’t.

So basically, you absolutely totally agree that men and women cannot be “just friends”.

No, I was just speaking for myself. Besides, what’s stopping people from remaining friends after sex? Sometimes it doesn’t work, but sometimes it does.

You’re a guy and you get a girlfriend, said girlfriend is not going to like your female friend. Why? Because SHE KNOWS you want to bang your female friend or at least strongly suspects it, so I don’t buy the idea that women are oblivious the the whole we can just be friends thing no matter how much they try to present it that way, otherwise the girlfriend would be fine with your female friend, and how often do you see that happen?

This is a silly video ha ha. Of course you can be friends with women. Most friendship groups last time I checked were mixed 50/50. it’s 2011, it’s weird, frankly, for someone under 30 to not have any friends of the opposite sex. The real question is “CAN you be friends with a person you are attracted to?” And it works both ways, as if women aren’t friends with men they’re not attracted to. You can be friends with people you bone as well. It’s sometimes not a problem.

Women like to keep around several male friends, usually for the following reasons:

    1) Male fan club to prove how attractive they are

    2) Sounding board for advice that isn’t all BS from other women

    3) Free labor

I’ve only met a few women that would actually admit to this outright, but most of them will if you get it from them piecemeal.

That’s just because these are the only things you have to offer. People will take what they can get. Think about it.

I saw that video last week and dismissed it out of hand for the simple reason that college guys think with their dick anyway.. Later in life they will realize that you can get your dick wet anywhere, but friendships are important.

I have always had female friends but learned early that sleeping with them changes the relationship and rarely for the better, and you better believe that you will be blamed for ruining the friendship.

You wouldn’t steal your best buddies dog, deplete his tool chest, or drink his best Scotch when he’s not around, same with your lady friends, show some respect.
