More Cainisms

The sexual harassment angle on the Cain train will be with us for as long as Cain is relevant. For what damage I thought he did to himself, caught unprepared, which led to pettifogging, obfuscating, and revising his statements as he went along, the fact that the day after the story broke was his biggest payday wrt donations into his campaign tells us that Cain (for the time being) is still relevant and popular.

I made a comment in the other Cain post that he better pray that no one else comes forward claiming victimhood in what looks like a pattern, this did not take long:

A third former employee says she considered filing a workplace complaint over what she considered aggressive and unwanted behavior by Herman Cain when she worked for the presidential candidate in the 1990s. She says the behavior included a private invitation to his corporate apartment.

Now that this has in fact happened, I am going to moderate my position a bit. I do not think THIS allegation is going to hurt him much, here’s why, the source says she considered filing a workplace complaint…………but she didn’t. Secondly, all we have now (this story could flesh out big time later) is an anonymous source telling us that at some point in the past Cain did something she found offensive, not much “there” there.

If this was the first sexual harassment salvo into the HMS Cain, then it would be more note worthy (like Anita Hill) but it wasn’t and now it smacks of piling on, and until this woman adds more detail to her allegations, I give it the minimalist attention that it is due. The other two women are worthy of attention because they put it on the line, they made the official complaint knowing that they would lose their jobs in the process (but apparently the situation was so untenable that it was worth it to them), they got their money and made the settlement.

The other Cain story in the works now is that the attorney for one of there aggrieved women wants the NRA to unbind the agreement of confidentiality so that she can answer to Cain’s response that the charges were unfounded:

A woman who complained about Herman Cain’s behavior when he was president of the National Restaurant Association wants to be released from a confidentiality restriction so she can respond to his statements on the matter, her lawyer said Tuesday.

Washington lawyer Joel P. Bennett said the woman disagreed with Mr. Cain’s public comments about reports that two female employees of the restaurant trade group had accused him of sexual harassment in the late 1990s. Mr. Cain said this week that he had been “falsely accused” and that the complaints were “baseless.”

“My client disputes Mr. Cain’s claims that he never sexually harassed anyone, and that the claims had no merit,” Mr. Bennett said.

For Cain’s sake, he better hope that agreement is enforced to the letter. The last thing he needs is for this woman to get in front of a camera and either catalog his transgressions, or make stuff up, either way, it will hurt him.

From the other post, it became clear to me that I view sexual harassment as more sinister and deplorable then many. Sure, many times it comes down to he said/she said, and often times innocuous actions can be wrongly interpreted, I get that, but for a woman to risk her job, her livelihood (knowing that corporations talk amongst themselves and continuing in that field might prove problematic) all over one or two incidents of “discomfort”, no, filing a formal complaint is like the last resort and indicative (to me) that they felt they could not work in that environment.

Many on the right have brought up the Clinton/Lewinsky affair for comparisons sake, to me there is no comparison, sexual harassment is worse. Both offer the power dynamic, one party either being the boss or having power over the other, but Clinton’s BJ’s were at least consensual, with Monica getting something out it, sexual harassment is not consensual, it is unwanted, and usually is repetitive and continual, and sometimes stopped only by formal complaints being lodged.

My complaints about Cain and his shortcomings have already been made in other posts, and regarding this story, as long as nothing further reveals itself, he will pretty much be left unscathed. He has said they are baseless, I will believe him (for now) and hope that he learned a lesson out of all this, be prepared, his days of winging it on the fly are over, and he is not very good at it anyway.

It might all be “piling on” but it’s not unusual for people to come forward once they hear what happened to others. People probably often just assume it was a one-time lapse with them. Rememeber how things developed when it was revealed that Tiger had had an affair….

That revelation hit not long after a veteran Republican pollster and former National Restaurant Association employee said Wednesday morning that Herman Cain sexually harassed a woman at an Arlington, Va., restaurant in the late 1990s.

Chris Wilson, now the principal of an Oklahoma-based GOP consulting firm, told Oklahoma City’s KTOK radio station that the episode took place in the neighborhood where Cain kept an apartment when he headed the restaurant trade group. Wilson declined to say specifically what Cain said or did to the woman, but that the CEO’s actions made other individuals at the table uneasy.

“It was very uncomfortable,” the pollster told POLITICO, recalling that other individuals present asked Cain to stop.

Wilson is a Rick Perry supporter and does polling for a super PAC that supports the Texas governor’s presidential bid.

In a cryptic comment made at National Journal’s Election 2012 Preview event Tuesday, Mark Block, Herman Cain’s campaign manager, made reference to an incident involving Cain and a receptionist for a radio talk show host.

Yes, I remember, but those women that did come forward wrt Tiger did not say ,”I was thinking about having an affair with him, but didn’t”, and they identified themselves, a bit different from what we are talking about here.

Sure, but I’m not comparing specifics, just that revelations tend to lead to more revelations. People feel encouraged. I’m sure nobody would want to be the first to put their name to it though. Unless the names of the two who made the accusations are known. Again, these sorts of things follow each other because feel safer. Or they realise this was a common thing.

The left is only interested in waiting, forever if necessary, for the “facts” to come out when it is one of their own that will get hurt. Case in point John Edwards and the Obama administration right now. When they can torpedo a conservative they don’t care. Case in point Cain and Dan Rather’s Bush TANG fables. If you undertand that the left, especially their propaganda arm I like to refer to as the LSM, never cares about any facts, real ones or otherwise, unless they profit from it, you won’t have a problem figuring out why they do what they do. Keep that in mind…

I’m not too sure how you worked that out. I read nothing, unless I missed it, that indicated that. Sexual harassment is very difficult to quantify and often abused, that’s why it’s a difficult subject. If Cain whipped his dick out and said “blow” then (movie reference!) that’s sexual harassment. If he said “how u doin'” – is that sexual harassment? Sexual harassment is very serious, but it’s made worse by women who interpret what they want to interpret, tarnishing everything. This is why the exact precise details are very important. You can accuse someone of sexual harassment very easily with no basis in reality.

Libtards seem to be spreading this around and making sure “the people” know that that black man cain is a sexual harasser, it’s necessary to taint and destroy any minority conservative. But nothing I see, now that I’m following it, is meaningful at all. Vague details and people confused that Cain could not remember events from TWENTY years ago.

If this is Perry’s doing, and it’s false, then Perry should bail out, even if he did not order it.

It has shown how dangerous it is to have a “political outsider” up for nomination, it shows how shortsighted that is. Ontop of that, to anyone supporting Cain, after this fiasco, do you really think he will deal well with geopolitical games across a myriad of forces and tyrants all with their own different self interests? Obama certainly wasn’t and isn’t, but that’s not the point. Do you really want a man wondering around the whitehouse dithering over what to do when Iran finally nukes Israel? Cain can’t prepare for this obvious event he should have seen coming, how can he prepare for something serious?

All Cain has is 999 and the fact that he probably is a stand up guy untainted by “Washington”. The 999 may or may not be feasible, it doesn’t matter (why isn’t one taking these plans and running them through data to see what they do, do they affect the poor in a negative way, etc). Do you REALLY want a businessman running a country? Pizzahut? Burger king? He has no executive experience, running a business is entirely different to running a town or city – or state (yes there’s the financial aspect and book-balancing that that’s just not enough). Or trying to get legislation passed. Running Pizzahut is entirely different to standing Putin down. And a day of reckoning will come with Putin, in the next decade imo. It’s no good saying “he’s on a learning curve.” You’re up against Obama the finest campaigner and manipulator around, with a snake tongue to match. I can see the adds now, “He can make Pizza, but can he run a country?” “Running a large international company is about GREED and making a profit – to make a profit you’ve gotta walk over someone” etc, etc.

When “tiny dancer” was Chief of Staff he did mention something about never letting a crisis go to waste.

Yep, he was talking specifically about reliance on foreign oil.

How is that even remotely relevant here?

    Can you provide some examples?

Vague details and people confused that Cain could not remember events from TWENTY years ago.

No it’s the fact that he’s telling a different story at every turn (after spending the first 10 days saying nothing). He’s updating or changing his story to include new revelations. What that reveals is how honest those on the right are, who would make the absolute most of this if it was someone like Obama. You know it, I know it, everyone knows it.

If this is Perry’s doing, and it’s false, then Perry should bail out, even if he did not order it

    .

If what is ‘false’? The allegations aren’t/weren’t false. The NRA and Cain have acknowledged two.

The 999 may or may not be feasible, it doesn’t matter (why isn’t one taking these plans and running them through data to see what they do, do they affect the poor in a negative way, etc).

They have. I haven’t seen many that suggest it makes any sort of sense. The ‘Tax Policy Center’ concluded that 84% of people would pay more tax. Low and middle income people would be hit hardest. Households making between $10,000 and $20,000 would see their taxes increase by nearly 950 percent. Those making more than $1 million a year would see their taxes cut nearly in half. Among those in the middle, households making between $40,000 and $50,000 would see their taxes increase by an average of $4,400. Those making between $50,000 and $75,000 would see their annual tax bill go up by an average of $4,326.

I’m not too sure how you worked that out.

That was from M.Y. and his dopey comment about a “Black man’s sex life”, but you are right, to think that the rest of the group could make that stretch, unfair.

My wife was a trial lawyer in LA for several years and when we got married she told my countless stories of how she was sexually harassed, comments, gestures, even bribes to get better cases, it ran the gamut, and it came from people that should know better, other lawyers, judges, even fellow partners in her law firm.

I also saw it with my own eyes when I did office jobs, the most asinine insensitive comments made that literally made me do an about face and leave the room for fear of getting sucked into some civil suit.

I’m with you there Rich. Sexism in general and sexual-harassment that stems from it, is still a major problem even today. The problem is people who honestly are trying to harass someone do it with no witnesses. It fills me with disgust. It’s not just “the older generation” either. Sexism is natural for many “sorts” and no amount of training etc will change these people.

Although sometimes they’re so absolutely clueless they don’t even realise they’re doing it, and therefore have no forethought or planning in terms of witnesses. Sounds like there are numerous first-hand witnesses to Cain’s behaviour.

If this is Perry’s doing, and it’s false, then Perry should bail out, even if he did not order it

This is how I interpreted it:

If tipping off the media was Perry’s doing, and the fact that allegations exist are false, Perry should bow out of the nomination. Even if Perry himself didn’t do the tipping.

That doesn’t make sense because the allegations exist. And even if it was unclear whether they did, and it was then determined they didn’t, that shouldn’t be a trigger for anything.

How you’ve interpreted it is that if Perry did tip of fthe media, then his allegation (that it was Romney who did the tipping off) is clearly false, and Perry should then bow out for blaming Romney.

Yeah ok, that makes more sense. Wasn’t very clear what “and it’s false” was referring to.
I assume the tipping-off isn’t a reason to bow out in itself?
