First They Came for the Cartoons

Hmmm.

The Renton City Prosecutor wants to send a cartoonist to jail for mocking the police department in a series of animated Internet videos.

The “South-Park”-style animations parody everything from officers having sex on duty to certain personnel getting promoted without necessary qualifications. While the city wants to criminalize the cartoons, First Amendment rights advocates say the move is an “extreme abuse of power.”

They’re trying to use cyber-stalking provisions to go after the guy. See? I knew those laws would come back to bite us. What else could happen in a society where mocking authority is considered the worst crime imaginable?

Well, the Renton police shouldn’t waste their time. Just wait until the Protecting Children from Internet Pornographers Act is passed. Then they can just ask the ISP for information on the cartoonist and proceed from there with the appropriate harassment and humiliation.

So do police no longer care about even trying to not look like fascists anymore? Because there’s no excuse for this, and they’d never be able to make an even vaguely plausible one.

Get used to this stuff. The only way the elites keep the collectivist handout state alive is to deprive most of us of practically all of our liberty. The authorities will be the de facto arm of the ruling elite, and they will be allowed to get away with anything and everything. They will prosecute anyone that says anything about them now. If you follow the historical model these totalitarian collectivist states showcased in the last century, when it gets to the point that the elite have taken everything over, they will drag us off to worker camps for stuff like this. For the good of society, of course.

Guys, just like Rich has stated in other posts, why worry?

Just let it go through the court system and true justice will prevail.

No need to worry about fourth or first amendment rights, just let the police trample all over them and wait for a smart, unbiased, non-political DA to take care of you.

    Pfft.

The police are and have been getting out of hand for a while.

    Really?

That’s your response to hoodlums burning down huge swaths of London because a man who shot at police was then shot by police? A shot at the Daily Mail?

Wow. Okay. I guess. If that’s what gets you outta bed in the morning.

The first set of riots were 100% blacks, not Muslims.

If you want to know, and sorry to be blunt.

Now it seems the general peasantry and underclass (all races), the scum that makes life hell for us on a bad day. The kind of people that make it impossible to walk alone at night in some places. Now they’re out in force. Stealing and smashing. There is no reason for it, other than immorality and degeneracy. I’m getting messages from friends seeing it and hearing it from where they live.

Guys, just like Rich has stated in other posts, why worry?

This is part of one of my comments addressed to Alex in one of Hals post about possible police over reach:

I understand the feeling of not trusting the government,
I don’t trust them either, but their worst nightmare is a well informed and always watchful citizenry, me, I never let them out of my sight

Nothing has changed. Is it surprising to you that some who hold positions of authority abuse that authority and over reach?

The DA, the police, and the judge that bought off on this are all in the wrong and as that constitutional lawyer said in the video, this is beyond a stretch to link this ,”The cyberstalking angle does not pass the laugh test”.

I value my constitutional liberties as much as anyone and believe a smack down is warranted to any of those in positions of authority that do not follow the rules and free press will go a long way in keeping them in the spot light.

back in the 40’s Americans citizens assisted the British people in their hour of need, one of the things we did was to loan many personal firearms, to the brits, to help protect the home islands, from a invasion.
After the threat of invasion was over an the war was ended, the British government, only returned a small portion of these arms. the rest were turned into scarp.
In light of the recent events, it is sad in a way that that happened, is sounds like a few shotguns and rifles would be very useful now in civilian hands.

Thing is, if you protect your home – gun or no gun – they’ll come back for you. You fight back, they’ll come back in bigger numbers. Getting reports, at least one, of a home invasion now.

I was just pullin’ your chain a bit. I figured since this was my first post back I should make it “thunderdome-ish.”

But, this does concern me that a pattern is developing where the default places the government with leverage until proven otherwise, which is not how this country is supposed to react when it comes to our civil liberties.

It concerns me as well, but aside from being well versed in our rights and watching them like a hawk, I don’t know what else we can do. As long as people, fallible human beings, hold positions of authority over us, from time to time there will be abuses. The goal is to expose the abuses and punish the offenders.
