Uber-Mensch

I have no idea if Louise Mensch is a good MP or not. I just know that I have to admire her ovaries:

A Conservative MP who questioned Rupert and James Murdoch about the extent of journalistic malpractice on Fleet Street yesterday suggested that she herself may have become a victim of a smear campaign.

Louise Mensch revealed she had received an email from a group called “David Jones Investigative Journalists” alleging she had taken drugs with violinist Nigel Kennedy in the 1990s, written a novel of a sexual nature while she was supposed to be working for the record label EMI and included derogatory references in the book to her line manager at the company.

Her extraordinarily frank reply admitted some of the allegations, built on others and blew away any chance that those who sent the email could have an exclusive story on their hands.

The article prints both the e-mail and her response. She basically said “yeah, I did drugs; I was young and stupid”.

I have to applaud someone who’s willing to stand up to media smearing. I have to applaud someone who will admit that she’s made mistakes and press on with her unwillingness to let the media run riot over privacy in Britain. In these matters, the cover-up is always worse than the revelation. And, really, this is mild stuff. If we were to create a Tawdry Behavior Scale, where 1 is Jon Huntsman and 10 is Ted Kennedy, this rates about a 3.

As I said, I have no idea who Louise Mensch is. But I have a feeling this isn’t the last we’ll hear of her.

She’s a hottie, I watched the whole witchunt with Murdoch *allah praise him* and she was the only one who asked intelligent questions – i.e. ‘Isn’t it the case that phone hacking is standard behavior for newspapers across the board.’

She slightly miss-quoted prick and traitor Pierce Morgan, but the gist was correct.

I believe her husband is the manager of Metallica and Red Hot Chilli Peppers :p

    Thumb up 1
